Greetings from around the world! This week campers will travel across the globe
to the “Land of the Rising Sun”. Campers will explore the art forms and rich culture of Japan,
including ancient crafts, origami, masks and costumes, ukiyo-e printmaking, and modern
masters like designer Takashi Murakami and ani-mator Miyazaki. This week will have campers saying
‘hello’ to the art of Japan! (Field trip)
Cartoon & Comic Drawing July 20-24 Campers make cartooning magic happen in this ever-popular camp week. Drawing funny expressions and hilarious animals will surely delight campers as they develop figure drawing skills, superhero identities, and master comic strip/book storyboarding and design. Mornings focus on illustration techniques like transfer/copy art, perspective, shading, and adding dimension to characters. Afternoons add a 3-D ele-ment bringing characters to life with mobiles, clay and optical illusion. Turn doodles into Disney animation magic, graphic novels, comics, and cartoons for a fun filled week of artmaking! (Guest Artist)
Movin’ and Groovin’July 13-17 This week is sure to get campers moving in body and soul! Focusing on the action of art, campers will celebrate music and dance in art, as well as visual rhythms and patterns. Campers explore art-and-music interaction through early modernists such as Kandinsky, who compared musical tones to shades of color. From Pollock-like action paintings, to finding inspiration in musical rhythms like Mon-drian’s lines, campers will find their own improvisa-tional style in this jam-packed week. (Guest Artist)
