MOUNTAINBreezer Bikes is the first and oldest mountain bike company, started in 1977 when Joe Breeze hand-built the first ten modern mountain bikes. These rare bikes can be seen at the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, the Shimano Museum in Osaka, Japan, and soon Breezer #1, the first modern mountain bike, will be on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

TRANSPORTATIONBreezer is also the original US transportation bike brand, winning more Editors’ Choice Awards than all other bike companies combined. BREEZER HISTORY

1974 Joe Breeze begins building his own custom-tailored road rac-ing frames.

1976 Repack – the first downhill off-road race is held on October 21, 1976. Ten riders took part and all were on repurposed Schwinn “Klunkerz” from the 1930’s and 40’s.

1977 Breezer #1 – Joe designs and builds the world’s first all-new mountain bike. Breezer #1, the first modern mountain bike, is now in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

1978 Joe builds nine more “Breezers.” Nothing like a Breezer has been seen before, and these first ten Breezers mark the birth of the modern mountain bike.

1980 Unicrown fork – Joe de-signs the unicrown fork, intro-duced on the 1981 Kelly-Fisher Mountain Bike Montare.

1981 Series II Breezer – Joe further refines his mountain bike designs and releases 25 Series II Breezers.

1983 NORBA – Joe Breeze and eleven other founding members form the world’s first mountain bike racing governing body: NORBA – the National Off Road Bicycle Association. Joe designs the NORBA logo and is NORBA member #2.

1983 Hite-Rite – Joe Breeze introduces the world’s first moun-tain bike dropper post, Hite-Rite.

1985 Series III Breezer – 60 total Series III Breezers are hand built by Joe Breeze.

1986 American Breezer – Joe introduces his first aluminum Breezer mountain bike, made by American Bicycle Manufacturing in St. Cloud, MN.

1986 Mountain Bike Hall of Fame – Joe is inducted as a charter member of the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame.

1991 Breezer – Joe launches a full line of Breezer mountain bikes, introducing the Lightning, Thun-der, and Storm models, produced by InterJet in Osaka, Japan.

1993 Breeze-In Dropout – Joe introduces the Breeze-In dropout: half the weight and twice the stiff-ness of standard dropouts.

1993 Breeze Vortex Cranks – Joe introduces the Breeze Vortex crank: the world’s first hollow tubular chromoly mountain bike crankset and the lightest moun-tain bike crankset yet available.

1993 Venturi – Joe introduces the Venturi road bike: the first pro-duction compact road geometry frame in existence.

1995 Breezer Backdraft Rims – Joe introduces the Breezer Back-draft rim: a superlight 390 gram rim, with all redundant material removed on the inner wall.

1996 Ignaz X – Joe introduces his first commuter bike, the Ignaz X to honor 20 years since Repack. The “Iggy” uses a Nexus internally geared hub and is modeled after the Schwinn Excelsior frames orig-inally used at Repack. It is named as a tribute to Ignaz Schwinn, the founder of Schwinn Bicycle.

1997 Twister and D’Fusion Tubing – Joe introduces his first full-suspension mountain bike, the Twister, using the Sweet Spot™ Unified Rear Triangle design, and introduces D’Fusion tube shaping in chromoly steel and aluminum.

2003 Breezer Transportation Bikes – Joe Breeze launches the new Breezer as “Transportation for a Healthy Planet,” dedicated 100% to bicycles for transporta-tion.

2008 “Best Commuter Bike” – Breezer is awarded Editor’s Choice for Best Commuter Bike from Bicycling magazine for the Breezer Villager.

2009 Breezer is awarded a sec-ond Editor’s Choice for Best Com-muter Bike from Bicycling maga-zine, this time for the Breezer Uptown 8.

2010 Breezer Mountain Bikes – with Breezer joining the ASI family of brands, Joe is able to bring back his beloved mountain bikes, releasing the first new Thunder and Lightning Breezers in 12 years!

2010 Breezer is awarded a third Editor’s Choice for Best Commut-er Bike from Bicycling magazine, again for the Breezer Uptown 8.

2011 Cloud 9 – Joe introduces his first carbon fiber Breezer and first 29er: Cloud 9.

2011 Breezer is awarded its fourth Editor’s Choice for Best Commuter Bike from Bicycling magazine, this time for the Breezer Uptown Infinity.

2013 Beltway – Joe introduces the Breeze-In Split Dropout and his first belt-drive transportation bikes, the Breezer Beltway.

2013 No. 5! Breezer is awarded an unprecedented 5th Editor’s Choice for the Breezer Beltway Infinity.

THUN-REPACK SUPERCELL LIGHT-

Breezer D’Fusion tubing strengthens Breezer mountain bikes with a unique D-shape profile on the top and down tubes near the head-tube intersection and at the top tube-seat tube intersection. Significant stress travels through these joints, and D’Fusion tubing’s broader cross-section diffuses that load over a wider area, reducing the risk of fatigue. In the rear triangle, D’Fusion adds rigidity to the chainstays through a wider cross-section, while positioning the broad area outboard, to reduce chain suck. D’Fusion tubing eliminates ride deadening and heavy gussets and lets the tubing do the lightweight and lively work it was designed to do.

Joe Breeze’s iconic Breeze-In dropout offers twice the rigidity and half the weight of standard dropouts. Breeze-Ins enable the stays to extend as close as possible to the rear axle, making tubing the rightful star of the show. Breeze-In dropouts improve shifting, wheel changes, and of course, the ride quality.

The Breezer Apex Disc Mount puts the rear brake caliper on the chainstay. The increased diameter of the chainstay provides a huge increase in torsional rigidity over the smaller seatstay. Not only is braking performance increased and chatter decreased, but the caliper is also safely protected within the Apex of the rear triangle - instead of “hanging off the back” like other bikes on the market.

MLink is a four-bar suspension system, with the important chainstay pivot positioned in the middle of the chainstay. This balanced design provides a smooth and efficient system with less flex, less binding, and less bearing and pivot stress.

LONGER LINKS ARE BETTER.

Short link systems have very large bearing rotations and accelerations, and maximize the force the rear triangle exerts on them. Longer links mean less bearing rotation and less stress, for super smooth suspension travel and low bearing wear.
