Postal rates to go up (pg2)❖ Postage rates to go up on 1 October!❖ Local rates will increase by 4-20
cents, while international rates will rise by 5-25 cents, depending on the weight!
❖ This is due to declining mail volumes and escalating operating costs!
❖ This means it will be more expensive to send letters in future!
❖ Do you remember the last time you sent or received a letter?
Tracking silent sea giants (pg4)❖ Manta rays currently face a high
risk of extinction in the wild!❖ 30 of them will be tagged with
microchips to track their movements for a year!
❖ This is to learn more about their migratory patterns and how to better protect them!
❖ Each tag will cost about $7500!❖ Feel free to share anything else
you know about Manta Rays. :)
New trees take root on Pulau Ubin (pg7)
!
❖ A bushfire in March damaged some land on western side of Pulau Ubin!
❖ 100 volunteers are helping to replant 100 trees on Pulau Ubin!
❖ They include representatives from Outward Bound School (OBS), Singapore Scouts Association and Friends of Ubin Network!
❖ Have you been to Pulau Ubin before? Share your experiences with us!
Child’s play is hard work (pg20)❖ Stefan Bentivoglio is the master model
builder at Legoland Malaysia Resort!❖ He oversees the building and
maintenance of more than 15000 lego models in the park!
❖ His biggest project is the RM$6 million ($2.36 million) Lego Star Wars Miniland in Johor Baru!
❖ Did you know that the larger models are reinforced with steel so they don’t fall over too easily?!
❖ They are also coated with a special chemical so they don’t lose their colours
