    Financial Certification

    a) A current personal bank statement or an original letter from your bank, OR

    b) Both a letter/affidavitof support from your parents or other source of supportstating that they will be responsible for your expenses during your stay at ELS, ANDa bank statement verifying their financial ability to meet your expenses, OR

    c) A letter guaranteeing financial support from your employer, OR

    d) An original scholarship letter from your government or other organization.

    2014 Important InformationAcceptanceOnce ELS receives your application materials and fees,and you are enrolled, ELS will send you an I-20 Form (Certificate ofEligibility), if requested, and a Welcome Package. The Welcome Packagewill give you more information about your next steps, including yourarrival at ELS in the USA and how to apply for a student (F-1) visa.

    Program Entry Requirements

    General English, English for Academic Purposes, Semi-Intensive, andAmerican Explorer are available to students of all levels.

    Business English

    An ELS Level 106 (High Intermediate) minimum proficiency is required.Proof of proficiency may be submitted in the form of a score of 46 on theTOEFLiBT, 453 on the TOEFLpBT, 550 on the TOEIC or IELTS Band 4.0.

    The Complete Prep Program for the TOEFLiBT

    ELS will accept one of the following for admission to the program:

    ELS Pre-Arrival Placement Test result of 107 or higher SeeELS.edu for details

    Completion of ELS Level 106

    Score of 52 on TOEFLiBT; 473 on TOEFLpBT; IELTS Band 4.5

    Note: All tests must have been taken within two years prior to ELS admission.

    Arrival and Departure

    At all locations, ELS asks you to arrive the Sunday before your classes areto begin, and depart on Saturday after your classes end. On your firstMonday at ELS, you will register for your program. After registration,you will take a placement test and evaluation interview so ELS can placeyou in the most appropriate level. You will then attend an orientation fornewly arriving students.

    Registration and Payment of Fees

    On the first Monday of your program, you will need to arrive at yourCenter to complete registration for your program. Please bring thefollowing items with you: Passport

    Funds to pay all remaining fees at ELS

    Completed Health Form (if applicable)

    Proof of medical insurance (if not purchased through ELS)

    All fees are to be paid in full for your entire course of study when youregister. ELS works with many counseling agents around the world whocan provide you with information and assistance. Select ELSagents are authorized to collect monies on behalf of ELS. If theagent who assists you has such an arrangement with ELS, anyrefund for which you may be eligible may be coordinated withthis agent. For a list of agents, visit ELS.edu/CounselorConnect.

    Instructional Hours

    The General English, English for Academic Purposes and BusinessEnglish programs consist of the equivalent of 30 instructional lessonsper week (6.5 lessons per day Monday through Thursday, and 4 lessonon Friday). The Semi-Intensive program consists of 20 instructionallessons per week (4 lessons per day Monday through Friday). The

    American Explorer program consists of 15 instructional lessons perweek (3 lessons per day Monday through Friday). The Complete PrepProgram for the TOEFLiBT consists of the equivalent of 30 instructiolessons per week (6.5 lessons per day Monday through Thursday, andlessons on Friday). The first day of each 4-week course may be devoteto placement and evaluation, registration and other non-instructionaactivities. The last day of each 4-week course may be devoted tograduation ceremonies and non-instructional activities.

    Attendance

    Because ELS would like you to get the maximum benefit from yourprogram, you will be expected to attend classes full-time. If you haveexcessive unexcused absences from any combination of classes in anysession, you will fail the level unless you make up the work missed andare able to demonstrate mastery of the material covered. More than 1

    unexcused absences in a 4-week course from lesson hours in the GenEnglish or English for Academic Purposes programs, or 12 or more in tSemi-Intensive program could cause you to fail your level. Students aeligible to take a 4-week break in study after 16 consecutive weeks ofstudy. Advance written notice and a $50 vacation deposit are required

    Center Hours

    All Centers are open from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, excepon national holidays as listed below. If a holiday falls on a registrationMonday, the Center will be open for newly arriving students, eventhough no classes will be held on that day.

    Application Fee

    A non-refundable $165 application fee ($100 for Washington, D.C. andNew York State Centers only: Garden City, Manhattan, Riverdale andRochester) is required with your completed application in orderto process your enrollment.

    Tuition FeeTuition fees are as listed in the 2014 Prices and Dates document. You mustpay the tuition for all booked weeks before starting your program at ELS.

    Housing Fee

    All housing fees are listed on pages 2-4 of the 2014 Prices and Datesdocument. Housing prices are subject to change. A housingreservation deposit of $200 per session ($400 for Washington, D.C.and New York [Manhattan]) is required for each 4 weeks ELS reservesfor your accommodations.

    2014 Important Information

    Cancellation and Refund Policy

    Enrollment Eligibility

    To enroll at ELS, you must meet the following requirements:

    1) Meet the age requirement for the Center where you will be studying(see 2014 Prices and Dates)

    2) Send the signed and completed application form

    3) Pay the ELS application fee

    4) Make the ELS tuition prepayment (see 2014 Prices and Dates)5) Submit your financial certification in English, if requesting a Form I-20.

    Student Health Plan Fee

    All ELS students must have medical insurance. The Student HealthPlan is offered to ELS students at a non-refundable fee of $150 perfour-week course.

    Airport Pick-Up Fee

    Airport pickup is optional. Fees by Center are listed on the 2014 Price

    and Dates Document.Materials and Technology Fee

    Each Student pays a non-refundable Materials and Technology fee of$85 at the beginning of each 4-week course. This does not apply tostudents in the Test Prep Programs.

    Tuition and Fees

    If ELS does not accept your application, ELS will refund you theapplication fee, as well as any tuition collected.

    Tuition payment for your entire booked course is required prior to

    attendance, and is subject to the Cancellation and Refund Policiesstated below.

    Tuition and Fees Cancellation Policy

    If ELS accepts your application, but you cancel your booked course, theapplication fee will not be refunded. However, should you cancel yourbooked course, you may apply your application fee toward a new coursefor up to 12 months after your initially scheduled start-date.

    If your visa application is rejected or you cancel your booked courseprior to the start date and you have not entered the USA on a studentvisa sponsored by ELS, ELS will refund all tuition and fees (except theapplication fee and courier fee).

    If you enter the USA on a student visa sponsored by ELS and cancel your

    booked course or do not report for class, ELS will retain the first fourweeks of tuition as a non-refundable fee, if you have a booked course offour or eight weeks. If you have a booked course of 12 weeks or more,ELS will retain the first six weeks of tuition as a non-refundable fee.

    Tuition and Fees Refund Policy

    Standard Programs(English for Academic Purposes, General English,Semi-Intensive, American Explorer, Business English)

    If you withdraw during the first four weeks of your booked course, ELSwill retain the first four weeks of tuition and fees as a non-refundablefee. You will be eligible for a prorated tuition refund on any remainingweeks of your booked course. This refund will be calculated by week,based on the weekly price for the actual length of study.

    If you withdraw after the first four weeks of your booked course and

    have not completed at least 50% of your booked course, you will beeligible for a prorated tuition refund. This refund will be calculated fromyour last recorded day of attendance and will be calculated by week,based on the weekly price for your actual length of study. ELS countsany part of the week that you studied as a full week of attendance forrefund calculations.

    If you withdraw after completing at least 50% of your booked course,you will not be eligible for a refund.

    If you extend the length of your booked course and withdraw from thecourse before completing 50% of the extended portion of your bookedcourse, you will be eligible for a prorated tuition refund of the booked

    extension. This refund will be calculated from your last recorded dayof attendance and will be calculated by week, based on the weeklyprice for the actual length of your extended study. ELS counts anypart of the week that you studied as a full week of attendance for

    refund calculations.If you extend the length of your booked course and you have comple50% or more of the extended portion of the booked course, you will nbe eligible for a refund.

    Complete Prep Program for TOEFL iBT:In addition to thetuition refund policy stated above, if cancelling a 12-week or8-week Prep program, tuition used will be calculated based onthe 4-week course price.

    All unused materials and technology fees and unused student healthplan fees are refundable.

    Program Changes

    There is a one-time $150 program change fee if you change yourenrollment from the English for Academic Purposes and/or GeneralEnglish programs to the Semi-Intensive or American Explorer programafter your first four weeks of enrollment. No program changes arepermitted within the first four weeks of a booked course.

    Housing Deposit Cancellation and Refund Policy

    The housing deposit will be refunded if you cancel or defer withmore than 28 days written notice. If you cancel with fewer than28 days notice, ELS will retain up to a maximum of eight weeks of thehousing deposit.

    Housing Refund Policy

    Refund policies for housing vary by location and are determined by thCenters college/university, or housing association. Please note thatall housing refunds are calculated on a weekly basis, regardless of thenumber of days within the week that the housing was used.

    All Refunds

    All refund requests must be made in writing.

    Refunds will be made within 30 calendar days of your cancellation,withdrawal or termination from the program.

    ELS follows all applicable state and federal regulations, including thosrelated to student refunds.

    All refunds are processed in the same method in which payment wasoriginally received.

    Student Health Plan FeeAll ELS students must have medical insurance coverage while in the USA. If youcannot provide evidence of sufficient coverage, in English, for medical expenses

    incurred while studying in the USA, you must purchase the ELS Student HealthPlan. The Student Health Plan is offered to ELS students at a non-refundable fee$150 per 4-week course. Insurance for students on a J-program is $200 per 4-wecourse. You will receive additional information about the Student Health Planwhen you arrive at the Center.

    Airport Pickup FeeIf you would like ELS to arrange airport pick-up upon your arrival, please indicathis under question 6 of the application form. The fees, by Center, are listed on following pages of this document.

    Materials and Technology FeeELS, a leading English provider, offers you a unique curriculum that includes

    exclusive proprietary textbooks and materials, as well as state-of-the-art LanguaTechnology Centers. ELS will give you the appropriate textbooks and materialsfor each level you attend.
