List of Figures
This page is mandatory if you have figures in your document. Use
Calibri 11 pt, Left Aligned paragraph, Single Line Spacing. Leave 1 line
between descriptions of consecutive figure. Microsoft Word can
automatically generate (and update if there are any changes to) the
List of Figures.
Figure 1: The Ancient Sun Temple at Modhera. All graphs and pictures
should be called Figures, and should be captioned with
numbers. The caption should be Calibri 9 point, with the leftindent aligned with the figure. The right indent should also be
aligned with the right side of the figure. Paragraph should be left-
aligned if it ends in one line, and justified if it extends to multiple
lines. The caption for figures should be below the figure, and for
tables, it should be above the table. 2

List of items in Media (or List of Web Resources)
This page is mandatory if you have attached electronic media (such as
CD/ DVD/ BluRay/ Flash Memory Pen Drive). Use Calibri 11 pt, Left
Aligned paragraph, Single Line Spacing. Leave 1 line between
descriptions of consecutive media item/ file. If there is a directory
structure, please make a multi-level list with numbers that match
those of files in the media.
If you do not have electronic media attached to the thesis, but you
wish to list web resources (created and owned by you or the institute),you can do so here. For example, you can provide a link to the location
where the electronic copy of this thesis is stored. However, please
note that this is not the place to list web resources that are created
and owned by others. In other words, this is not a list of web
references. The proper place for that is at the end of the thesis, as
indicated in subsequent instructions.

Chapter 1: Title of Chapter 1 (Will automatically
update in the Table of Contents)
Section 1.1 (14pt Calibri, 1.25 line spacing, 24 pt. gap
before paragraph, 3 point gap after paragraph)
Subsection 1.1.1 (12 pt Calibri, 1.25 line spacing, 18pt gap
before paragraph, 6 point gap after paragraph)
Always begin Chapter on odd page (right side). Normal text
starts here. Use Calibri 11 pt font, justified paragraph, 1.25
Line Spacing. Center-align and caption all figures and tables.
When referring to figures or tables in the text, use appropriate
hyperlinks.
For example, marks obtained by the students closely
approximate a normal distribution (Figure 1), which is to be
expected. However, it can be seen that a few students are
doing considerably better than the others (Table 1). Notice the
use of hyperlinks for figures and tables. However, previous
studies show a different distribution [1], which lead us to
conclude that the distribution of marks is affected by regional
and cultural variations. Although this conclusion is supported
by previous studies [24], it has not been quantified before
[5]. Notice the use of references here. Formatting of
references is discipline specific. Please see References
section at the end of this document for complete
understanding.
Subsection 1.1.2
This is the third paragraph. For sample text only.

Normal text looks like this. One can calculate the area of a
circle using equation (1.1). Notice that the equation number
referred to in the text is also a hyperlink. You can simply copy-
paste equations from the Insert Quick Parts
EquationInTable, and then modify properties of the equation.
Once you have the EquationInTable (which we have created
for students benefit), click on the equation number and
Insert Bookmark. In the Bookmark dialog box, you can
give an easy-to-remember name to the equation, which will
simplify searches when you want to cite the equation number
in your text. When you want to cite, just click on Insert
Cross Reference, and choose Bookmark, with Paragraph
Number (full context) to insert the equation number.
(1.1)
This simplifies the management of equations and equation
numbering in MS Word. More information on this can befound on the blog (http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-
word/archive/2006/10/20/equation-numbering.aspx). Note
that the EquationInTable is actually a table with invisible
borders, but do not caption this table. If you want to insert
another equation in Chapter 2, you can insert the same
EquationInTable, and right click on the equation number and
choose to re-number it suitably. Equation (2.1) shows how to
calculate the area of a sphere of radius r.
(2.1)
Happy thesising!
