    per room), each with 4 bunks, 2 single

    beds a private washroom and shower.

    One of the bedrooms is handicap

    accessible. The lodge has a kitchentoo.MEALS:Continental breakfast (bothdays) and lunch (both days) will be

    served each day and one evening

    meal (24 July) is provided. Vegetarian

    options will be available at each meal.

    Raku is fun and exciting. Join usand discover how to share thisJapanese art form with yourstudents.     Learn how to glaze and fire a rakuceramic piece. This workshop is afollow-up to the June 15, Learn the

    Art of Raku Clay Hand Building withArtist Holly Ruggles workshop at Ben

    Logan Middle School. Raku is afiring process developed in 16thcentury Japan for the Japanesetea ceremony. Pieces fired in thismanner are referred to as Raku orRaku pottery. The pieces areglazed, dried and put directly into avery hot kiln where they remainabout twenty minutes until theglazes have melted at atemperature of 1820F. The piece isthen removed from the gas firedkiln with long Raku tongs and putinto a nest of hay or news paperand covered with a bucketcreating a reduction chamber.

    They are then quickly quenchedwith water. Raku glazes are famousfor the beautiful metallic luster andcrackle effects. This is a fascinatingfiring process to see and be a partof. Raku firing is dramatic andexciting. The glaze and firing session

    will be off site at the Holly Rugglesgeodesic home/studio.
