Decp Argentine ag carrier serving destinations

Hy Established by the Argentine Ministry o Transport
through the nationalisation and unifcation o our existing
carriers: Zonda, Aeroposta, Ala and FAMA. Aerolineas
launched services on 7 December 1950, ater inheriting a
diverse eet and orders comprising more than 70 aircrat,
many o which never saw Aerolineas service. A DC-6 ight toNew York on 21 March 1950 marked the launch o
international services. As all o Aerolineas predecessors
except FAMA had operated domestically in their own defned
areas, the unifed carriers route network required little
rationalisation and was ully integrated by 7 November
1955. The Falklands/Malvinas conict o 1982 led to the
suspension o several international services and the
airlines slow pace o recover y rom these setbacks was
a actor in the governments decision, in December 1989,
to privatise its ag carrier. Spanish ag carrier Iberia acted
to strengthen its South American network by acquiring a
30% stake in November 1990, subsequently increased
83.5%. Aerolineass continuing poor fnancial perormance
led Iberia to reduce its holding to 20%, which was
transerred to Spanish state holding company SEPI. Ater
Aerolineas was reorganised as a subsidiary o holding
company Interinvest, American Airlines acquired a 10%
stake in Interinvest, which gave it an 8.5% stake inAerolineas in July 1999. American subsequently divested.
The SEPI/Iberia holding in Interinvest was then reduced to
10%. Aerolineas fled or protection rom creditors in 2001
and parts o the business were sold o. Spains Grupo
Marsans acquired 92.1% in 2001 and committed to inject
$50 million in resh capital with the intention o resuming
long-haul services. On 6 November 2001, transatlantic
services to Madrid were duly restored. Agreement reached
with Grupo Marsans, ater a long-standing dispute, fnally
allowed the Argentine government to re-nationalise
Aerolineas and sister company Austral as subsidiaries o
Interinvest, ater receiving Argentine Congress approval in
December 2008. The Argentine state acquired the stock
portolio o Aerolineas and sister company Austral through
a law passed on 5 February 2009.
