destinations are served through code sharing agreements

with oreign airline partners. The airline is also the countrys

    largest cargo carrier.

Hy Founded as Dobrolet to provide service between

Moscow and Nizhni Novgorod. On 25 February 1932 the

Central Administration o Civil Air Fleet was ounded and

adopted the name Aeroot. In addition to providing

scheduled air transport services, Aeroot was also

responsible or non-transport activities ranging rom

surveying and polar exploration to crop-spraying and fre-

fghting. It had become the worlds largest airline by the end

o the 1930s, employing in excess o 400,000 sta and

operating around 4,000 aircrat. Aeroot became the frst

carrier in the world to operate sustained regular jet services

on 15 September 1956, with the Tupolev Tu-104. In 1992,

ollowing the collapse o the Soviet Union, Aeroot wasdivided into more than 300 regional airlines and

international routes were operated separately as Aeroot

Russian International Airlines (ARIA). Two years later

Aeroot was registered as a joint stock company and the

government sold o 49% o its stake to Aeroot employees.

In 2000 the company changed its name to Aeroot Russian

Airlines. On 14 April 2006 Aeroot Russian Airlines ormally

became the 10th member to join the SkyTeam alliance. In

February 2010 President Putin approved the proposed

    Rostekhnologii Kavminvodyavia (KMV), Orenair, Rossiya,

Sakhalinskiye Aviatrassy (SAT), Saravia and Vladivostok Air

into Aeroot. The consolidation was envisaged as a two-

stage process with the fve smaller carriers initially

combined into one based on Rossiya, but managed by

Aeroot. This would be ollowed by a merger between

Rossiya and Aeroot. In March 2011 VTB Capital acquired a
