A MONTHLY PUBLICATION DEDICATED TO OUR MEMBERS & THEIR DOGS July has been a busy month with water practice, obedience class and trials and a great evening spent with friends at the A’s Dog Day at the Park. I must say I have never been on the actual playing field of any professional sport. I was awe struck at the level of field grooming and when you look up into the coliseum and see all of those seats it really puts into perspective what one is actually seeing on television, everything is so much larger and faster in real life. The funniest thing that happened and still makes me giggle is that there was a young man around 6 years of age sitting directly in front of Gabe. I warned the little one that when and if he gets the courage to turn around he would be face to face with a very large slobbering Newf who is trying very hard to behave and not give some ear kisses. The little boy put up a brave front and decided the best way to handle the situation was to ignore it. The boy just sat, head facing forward and ate his little Lunchable box that his grandmother brought him. The entire thing was a blast to watch unfold and I need to brag that Gabe never bothered the little boy or his Lunchable box. A MONTHLY PUBLICATION DEDICATED TO OUR MEMBERS & THEIR DOGS

July has been a busy month with water practice, obedience class and trials and agreat evening spent with friends at the A’s Dog Day at the Park.

Kathy, Gabe, and I met up with Robin, Ray and their dogs, Foyle and Hazel to attendthe A’s Dog Day at the Park. The day began with a gathering of over 750 dogs in theparking lot outside of the coliseum. Several dogs did some tricks on stage and therewas a brief discussion about fund raising for canine cancer research. The group thenparaded around the warm up track which is right down on the field skirting the grassof the playing field. I must say I have never been on the actual playing field of anyprofessional sport. I was awe struck at the level of field grooming and when you lookup into the coliseum and see all of those seats it really puts into perspective what oneis actually seeing on television, everything is so much larger and faster in real life.

Time to take our seats and watch the game! I should have really thought this onethrough when they suggested you hold your dog on your lap I should have knownseating would be an issue for our Newfs. We did have to buy an extra seat for ourdog but a Newfy could have used three extra seats! Gabe and Foyle made the bestof it by either sitting up or laying under our feet on the cool concrete. The funniestthing that happened and still makes me giggle is that there was a young man around6 years of age sitting directly in front of Gabe. I warned the little one that when andif he gets the courage to turn around he would be face to face with a very largeslobbering Newf who is trying very hard to behave and not give some ear kisses. Thelittle boy put up a brave front and decided the best way to handle the situation was toignore it. The boy just sat, head facing forward and ate his little Lunchable box thathis grandmother brought him. The entire thing was a blast to watch unfold and I needto brag that Gabe never bothered the little boy or his Lunchable box.

Foyle had much better seats and was able to enjoy watching the game while peeringover the edge. I was wondering if anyone below Foyle caught some drool…..

The event is something else I can strike from my bucket list. The wonderful thingabout my bucket list is that so many of the items I can share with our Newfs, makes the experience even more memorable.

13!My name is Ch.Capriccio’s Autumn Leave, but just call me Autumn. A little over

three years ago I was very sad, my mom passed away. Then I found out our

good friends Merle and Linda Maggy were taking me to live with them. I then

had a whole family of Newfies to live with. I did have to let them know that I was

the team leader. I have two human grandchildren who love to shower me with

hugs. I got to sleep on the bed until it got to hard to get up on, but I still come

upstairs and sleep on the foot of the bed. We have had lots of walks in lots of

different places. I get to go on lots of car rides and even went to Glacier and

Alberta. I think In N Out has the best burgers. Life is good!

PAWS TO THE GROUND!EVENTS, DOG-FRIENDLY PLACES, WEB SITES, APPS, FUN DOG STUFF!

My seven year old boy Lexrecently had a back/nerve injuryand the vet said he had to use aramp from now on. I ordered tworamps for my two boys to try,100lb (Lex) and 150lbs (Flint)---the Solvit telescoping ramp andthe Pet Gear tri fold ramp.

Comparing the two ramps:Telescoping ramp is muchstronger than the tri fold. When Istood on the tri fold ramp itsagged down about 6+ inches, itbounced a great deal as I walkedover it on all fours like a dogwould, it is unsteady and I wasnervous being on it. Thetelescoping ramp didn't sag anddidn't bounce. The good thingabout the tri fold ramp is that it ismuch wider at 20", vs. thetelescoping ramp at 17". Thewider ramp was easier for myolder boy Lex, but the youngerFlint being more agile didn’t havetrouble with the narrower ramp.

The telescoping ramp is alsoeasier to move around andposition on the back of the car orgrooming table, were as the trifold ramp doesn't have anythingto keep it flat when you are tryingto possition it, it will fold up onyou, being very large and heavy itwas very difficult to work with.

Surface: The surfaces of bothramps are the same, a very roughsand paper thing (Grip tape). Iscraped my knees and after mydogs were playing on the ramptheir paw pads were scraped also.It is non-skid when the ramp isnot too steep but at a steeperangle my dogs slSurface: Thesurfaces of both ramps are thesame, a very rough sand paperthing (Grip tape). I scraped myknees and after my dogs wereplaying on the ramp their pawpads were scraped also. It is non-

skid when the ramp is not toosteep but at a steeper angle mydogs slipped quite a bit. Thequality of the surface is also verypoor, after only one short ofpractices the corners were peelingoff and the grip tape was veryscratched (I even used my figurenails and was able to makescratch marks). I decided to pealthe cheap surface off and glue onrubber mats (or you can even cutup a yoga mat or thin carpet). Aslong as the new mat is not toothick the telescoping ramp willstill be able to slide back togetherfor storage, the tri fold ramp canbe re-surfaced with any thick orthin material.

Safety: the two ramps are prettysafe when it comes to dogswalking up and down, except forthe sagging of the tri fold rampbeing a bit unnerving. Thetelescoping ramp however hasmany sharp places. They haveplastic covers but the covers areonly wedged on, not glued orscrewed on, as I was setting upthe ramp one of the covers fell offand the corner was extremelysharp and dangerous. If I had notseen the plastic fall off I or mydogs could have easily been cut.I had to go around and reglueevery plastic cover to insure theywon't fall off later.

I like the telescoping ramp betterthan the tri fold because it islighter and easier to use and dealwith. For a $100 ramp theyshould have made a better surfacethough, but you would have tore-mat the tri fold ramp anywaybecause the surface will peel offafter only light use and rubbermats will make that heavy tri foldramp even heavier.

Since most expenses forRegional are paid before entry fees come in from the Show Secretary, about $9,000. is required in the bank foreach Regional. Therefore we do not have 5 years available. We then discussed Philanthropic donations andfeel we could increase the budget amount to $1,000, perhaps half each 6 months. Hazel will send somepotential criteria for organizations NCNC might support to the Board for comments. Hopefully decide on this atnext meeting, then begin procedure definition.

● The Board is now using Dropbox as a file sharing program. Kevin will ensure all have it installed and set up adirectory to use.The new membership coupons have been sent to Gina and John.
