MARYKNOLL COLLEGE CLASS OF 1987 SPONSORS TESDA GRADUATION OF 250 MAE

SCHOLARS

With the certifications from TESDA, the graduates are qualified for jobs which are available through the DOLE (Department of Labor and employment) and other private companies/agencies for placements abroad or for local employment. The MC College Class ’87 believes that enabling the least fortunate to get training and education is one of the best ways by which the country can transcend from its vicious cycle of poverty.

The graduation of around 250 Miriam Adult Education (MAE) scholars was held last October 12, 2012 at the Little Theater, Miriam College with Dr. Charito Lapus, MCFI President, Dr. Glenda Fortez, VPAA, Ms. Rose Bautista, VPDRM, Ms. Elaine Gavino-Urbano, MC College ’87 President and Congresswoman Bernadette Herrera Dy, among others as its special guests. The graduates are the beneficiaries of the scholarship program which was provided by MC College Class of 1987 as its gift to the school during their Silver Jubilee celebration last September 8, 2012. The scholarship program included trainings on Wellness Massage Therapy, Computer Literacy Program, Household Services and Barista. Through the partnerships between Bagong Henerasyon Foundation, Inc., Miriam Adult Education, the officers of MC College Class ‘87 and TESDA, this scholarship program was made possible. Its main objective is to enable the ‘out-of-school’ and ‘out-of-work’ individuals to find gainful employment and become productive citizens who can contribute to the development of their families and the Philippine society in general.

Last November 10, marks a special date for all the 1988 high school graduates of Maryknoll College (now called Miriam College), St. Scholastica’s College, Ateneo de Manila, Xavier School and La Salle Green Hills as they joined together in sponsoring a fun run called “ United Colors of 88 Run “. This event aims to raise funds for the benefit of 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Penaflorida’s project called “Kariton Klasrum”. The organizers believe that our street children should also be given the same opportunity to have a good education just like them. Their efforts were truly remarkable since all distances have an extra 0.88 km which commemorates their Silver Jubilee Anniversary next year. United Colors of 88 Run was this year’s biggest gathering of competitive runners aged 40 and above. It was great seeing our dear Maryknoll/Miriam alumnae and their families, together with more than a thousand runners pounding the roads of Bonifacio Global City and Buendia Avenue to show their support for MCHS ‘88. Indeed, this activity was a great success because it did not only provide our alumnae the chance to bond with their high school classmates but to enjoy the benefits of a more healthy way of living. Congratulations to MCHS Class 1988!

ERRATUM: IN MEMORIAM

Also please pray for the eternal repose of the soul of SONIA P. NER (COLL ’69). Mrs. Ner joined her Creator last September 24, 2012.

“And out of the ground the LORD God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”--- Genesis 2:9

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life”--- 1 John 5:20

“But you, man of God, avoid all these things. Strive for righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Run your best in the race of

faith, and win eternal life for yourself; for it was to this life that God called you when you firmly professed your faith before many witnesses. Before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who firmly professed his faith before Pontius Pilate, I command you.” - - Timothy 3: 11-13

“Command them to do good, to be rich in good works to be generous and ready to share with others”. - - Timothy 3:18

RICH PICKINGS

AMAZING ALUMNI ACHIEVER

Ms. Magdalena Badua has served as a light for children in her 52 years as an educator, 37 years of which were spent as a teacher in the Philippines, and 15 years as a teacher in the US. At the Ateneo Grade School where she taught prep to grade 3 students for 37 years, she was a multiple recipient of the Eaglet Award, bestowed in recognition of outstanding performance as grade school faculty member. An accomplished author, she wrote textbooks that were used all over the Philippines by preparatory and elementary students in various subjects, ranging from Mathematics, Health and Science, Reading, Social Studies and Writing. Mrs. Badua continued her devotion to her profession a year after she migrated to the United States. In 1995, she applied as an assistant teacher at her grandson's preschool so she could be with him as he transitioned from home to school. This led to her becoming a founding teacher of New Journeys Preschool of St. Patrick’s Church in Sarasota, Florida. In her fifteen years of service with the school, she was recognized by the school administrators and parents for developing and implementing a superior academic and spiritual program. Mrs. Badua is the teacher to students whose lives she has formed.
