2012-2013

Hello everyone,

Jason Marshall, Superintendent

Palestine ISD students participated in the Anderson County Live-stock Show this week. We had several students receive recogni-tion. Even our Washington Early Childhood students had a great time and got to pet the animals.

Palestine High School hosted the Area Track Meet at Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday. The Palestine boys won the meet mak-ing them the Area Champions. PHS will have many boys and girls advancing to the Regional Meet in Humble next week.

The Palestine ISD Board of Trustees will hold an Election to elect three trustees for Places 3, 4, and 5 on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Early Voting will be held at the Palestine ISD Administrative Offices located at 1007 East Park Avenue from Monday, April 29 until Tuesday, May 7. On April 29-May 3 hours will be 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. On Monday & Tuesday, May 6-7, the hours will be extended to 5:30 pm.

Palestine ISD candidates for school board participated in the Anderson County Political Forum last week. The meeting went well with candidates being allowed to express their vision for PISD.

Our Employee Service Awards Banquet will be held at the Palestine High School Auditorium on Tuesday, May 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Service Awards will be presented at 6:00 pm with a dinner to follow in the PHS Cafeteria at 7:00 pm. For those who attend, this event will take the place of the workday on Saturday, June 8.

WILDCAT WEEKLY

The conference will focus on mobile devices in education, best practices to integrate in curriculum, management & infrastructure, and classroom ideas. The event is open to everyone from classroom teachers, administrators, to technology directors. If districts are in the planning stages of acquiring mobile devices or if they have had a 1:1 structure for a while or need ideas to bridge technol-ogy and curriculum, we would love your participation and collaboration. This is an excellent opportunity to net-work with area schools, and share ideas and transform our educational practices to reflect 21st century job skills.

Palestine ISD will be hosting an Educational Technology Conference entitled “iHeartDevices” on August 8, 2013 co-sponsored by

TCEA (Texas Computer Education Agency) and Apple.

Registration is open at tcea.org and more information can be found on the website iHeartDevices.weebly.com. For more information contact Shannon Leisure at extension 1270 or Kim Nelms at 1272.

PJH News -

Palestine Junior High students have been working hard this final week before STAAR to meet the chal-lenges next week. Students have been using their class time as well as before and after school time to prepare. We are ready for the challenges next week.

Eighth grade students as well as parents are putting the final touches on our Eighth grade dance. We will hold our presentation of sweethearts in the new gym this Saturday, April 20 at 6:00 pm. Students continue to practice the waltz. They also have exhibited their creativity in designing and making their one of a kind mask this weekend. The junior high greatly appreciates the work of Mr. Williams and his students who created magnificent chandeliers from wood to decorate our dance.

Junior High Theater students performed this past weekend in the high school theater. They presented Virgil's Wedding. We appreciate all who went above and beyond to support our efforts. We are especial-ly appreciative of Mr. Cate and Mr. Stewart for allowing us the privilege to perform in this outstanding facility. Thanks to all who attended and our Chamber of Commerce and Palestine Main Street for pro-moting our event.

Junior High Tennis will travel to Bullard Monday for their first tennis tournament. We look forward to great competition and great victories.

The Junior High Band will travel to Sandy Lake for their spring competition. We anticipate outstanding performances from our young musicians.

“RockSTAAR Tutorials” Saturday, April 13th and April 20th are our RockSTAAR Saturday Tuto-rials from 8:30-11:30 am. These are lessons for students to receive last minute preparations for the STAAR tests. Transportation & snacks are provided. Thank you to all the teachers that signed up two of their Saturdays to help these students! LAB Mrs. Moore’s 5th Grade Social Studies did a lab on Weather-ing, Erosion, and Deposition during RockSTAAR tutorials last Sat-urday.

STAAR Pep Rally On Tuesday we had a FANTASTIC Pep Rally to pump up our students here at Story. Former NFL player Keith Davis from Winners, Inc. spoke to the students on pushing to-wards your big dreams and never settling for less. The PJHS cheerleaders and the PHS drum Line performed. We also had our staff perform the Harlem Shake. It was a great time for all.

Gifted & Talented GT classes presented their projects this week. The Fifth graders did projects on Slavery and Human Trafficking. There were dioramas, PowerPoint slideshows, fictional jour-nals, and stories. The Fourth graders projects reflected the balance between Personal Freedom and Public Responsibility. These deep subjects reflect our focus on thinking more deeply about issues instead of only on the surface.
