Ontario - Tennis Tournament, by Karen Diaz

On February 2 2012, Ontario High School’s Key Club joined together and hosted its first ever Tennis Tournament. D-15 key clubbers from neighboring high schools were invited to participate in the tournament as either tennis players, moral support for friends, or volunteers. Those who wished to play in the tournament were charged a fee of six dollars for singles matches and ten dollars for doubles. Those who wished to be volunteers in the tournament were given the task of selling snacks and beverages to the tennis players or being line judges during the matches. The tournament started off with a pre game warm-up that lasted from 8am ‘till 10am. Fifteen minutes after the warm up ended the official tournament began for both doubles and singles participants. Everyone had to play up to one set (six games) and win by two in order to move on to the next level. The Tennis Tournament ended at 3pm, and the lucky first and second place winners of the doubles matches won movie tickets while the first and second place winners of the singles matches won Subway/Jamba Juice gift cards. At the end of the day, participants, volunteers, and friends alike had fun all while helping a fellow D-15 Key Club raise up money. The Tennis Tournament was a success, and 200 dollars were raised up to help Ontario High School’s Key Club attend this year’s DCON!
