Interested in participating in "Trick or Treat for UNICEF"? Well here are this year's awesome boxes! Remember that if you order through Kiwanis, a portion of the proceeds earned goes entirely to The Eliminate Project! Also keep in mind that "Trick or Treat for UNICEF" doesn't have to occur on Halloween! Starting early and/or having fundraisers at school is an excellent way to have a successful fundraiser. Hey D15, Just a reminder that the September Division Council Meeting will take place at Red Hill Park in Rancho Cucamonga from 12 noon to 2PM! We'll be going over Spirit Gear, events, Trick or Treat for UNICEF, Dues & Chartering, Key Leader, Youth Opportunities Fund, Pre-fall rally and much more. It also looks like there's going to be a spirit rally to so make sure to attend! Hope to see you all there :D

Hi Giraffes, It's almost that time of the year again...and you know what that means. Fortunately for those lucky enough to be part of D15, that means being a part of the largest Key Club event on Earth - literally. Due to CNH's large population, our Fall Rallies are split in two, and it just so happens that Fall Rally South had over 9000 people go last year. But ask yourself this: why do we go to Fall Rally? Why do we spend money to meet hundreds of Key Clubbers and take a day off from our busy schedules? As a service organization, what service are we performing that justifies our presence at one of California's top theme parks? The answer: fundraising. Combined, both Fall Rallies last year generated more than $100,000 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Fall Rally South - See you there.

Saturday, September 8th, our LOHS Key Club members, who had signed up for this event, did not mind the long commute from Rancho Cucamonga to Los Angeles. Upon our arrival, the volunteer coordinator had been expecting us and sorted everyone into different booths for our assigned shifts. Although we were separated, doing different jobs, we continued to work hard as we represented our club. Some worked in gift shops, others worked in food stands, and the rest had to make deliver runs. The weather was hot and humid, making volunteering a bit more difficult. However, the lively music and aroma of the delicious Greek Food made the whole work experience much more enjoyable. The festive atmosphere brought a euphoric mood to the crowd, which brightened the spirits for LOHS Key Club volunteers as well. The volunteer coordinators were kind enough to teach our members a thing or two about Greek Culture. So not only has this been a great working experience, but a fantastic learning experience as well. This event taught us about Greek culture, music, cuisine and much more. Even though our shifts had ended, many of the members decided on their own free will to continue volunteering and start another shift. After a long day’s work, many of us stayed afterwards to enjoy the festivities as well. We were able to have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in Greek Culture. LA Greek Fest was indeed one of the most memorable events.

by Janet Kahng September 7th through September 9th, the city of Los Angeles held its annual Greek Festival. As Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson as celebrity guest hosts, and special guest star, Thanos Petrelis, it was indeed a lavish event.

Chino Hills High School has been aching for Key Club to finally come back into school. School has felt almost empty without clubs, so Club Rush Week was an excitement for all Key Clubbers. Before Club Rush, we made flyers, posters, and clothespins with returning members. It was very nice to start seeing members once again even before the first meeting. They all showed excitement for a new year of service, which motivated me even more to make Club Rush and the new year better than ever before. As all the clubs set up their table during Club Rush, almost hundreds of people rushed to the tables to find out about meetings and club description. And which table had the biggest crowd the first day? Of course Key Club did. Many returning members came to ask about the first meeting and even more new members came to ask what Key Club is about and how to sign up. Some returning members even went around lunch to secretly pin people! The expression on people’s faces when they noticed they got pinned was priceless and hilarious. And what is Key Club without the “I feed good!” cheer? I stood up at our table and yelled, “HOW DO YOU FEEL KEY CLUBBERS?” Members and officers around our table even from other areas replied with “I FEEL GOOD. OH I FEEL SO GOOD.” It was such a touching experience even when hundreds of high school students were staring at us. However, our cheer attracted even more people, so more were able to find out about Key Club and the first meeting. If I had to describe the first meeting with one word, it would be –hectic-. Even before I actually reached the theatre where Key Club always meet, hundreds were outside the door. As we opened the theatre door, Key Clubbers would not stop rushing in. As officers try to pass out agendas, I try to talk on the microphone to tell Key Clubbers to quickly find a seat. Even after all the seats were filled up in the theatre which had a capacity of 437 people, the crowd still did not stop so they had to sit on the aisles and the floor. Some even resorted to sitting on other people’s laps. Officers, even I, at first were overwhelmed by the number of people, but I at that moment I felt so grateful to be a part of such an amazing organization and to help so many members have a great time this year. After the introductions and event information, Key Clubbers rushed to the front of the theatre to sign up for events and pick up membership forms. The crowd was almost so terrifying that I had to squeeze through the crowd to get some air. After the meeting, there were at least 20 members for each event, some with even 50 signed up. With such accomplishment in the beginning of the school year, I cannot wait to make the year even better, and nothing else can describe my current feelings better than “OH I FEEL SO GOOD.”

The shrill school bell rang and immediately adrenaline was pumping through my veins. I fast walked, not ran, to the K building and approached Mrs. Gudmundson’s room. As I entered the door, there were already prospective members crowding the entrance. I opened the Power Point and retrieved the bell. At approximately 2:55 p.m., I rang the bell as president at my first 2012-2013 Key Club meeting. I looked at the 100 or so teenagers waiting for me to start explaining why Key Club was special. Although nervous, I mean tremendously nervous, I knew I had a plan. Each Power Point slide had a particular topic: When can I board the ship (leadership opportunities), Do we actually help anyone? (Preferred charities), How can I improve my Swag level? (Spirit wear), and more slides to explain the importance and uniqueness of Key Club. After the informative section of the meeting, the entire club entered a huge cheer off and each member, new and old, belted out the ‘how do you feel cheer?’

To increase the spirit levels even more, Social Chairman Kayla Yamada presented an ice breaker. A beach ball was tossed around and the color the right hand landed on corresponded with a question. The questions varied from favorite mode of transportation (unicorns, possibly) to favorite food. The members were so enthusiastic about this game that we almost knocked down a piece of ceiling. I ended the meeting with simple reminders: don’t forget to sell your car wash tickets, sign up for service events outside, and be happy. Be happy because that is what Key club is all about. Key club members: spreading happiness since 1925.
