"November" DCM! Hey Division 15! The Division Council Meeting for the month of November will take place on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 2:00PM - 4:00PM at Westwind Park.

Hi Giraffes! Want to keep up with all the new division news? Wish to help ELIMINATE Maternal and Neonatal tetanus? Missed out on the last ice skating event? Then attend the December DCM/Ice-skating social/fundraiser for The ELIMINATE Project! Where: Ontario Center Ice Arena 201 S. Plum Avenue Ontario, CA 91761 When: Saturday, December 15 from 6:00PM - 10:00PM Cost: $10.00 (for skate and rental, DCM is free :D) Other info: Like the last fundraiser, we will have flyers available before the event which you need to submit in order for a portion of the proceeds to go to The Eliminate Project, so please bring in those flyers! :D


"It's that time of the year again". . . Ontario's annual Christmas on Euclid is finally here, and Kiwanis needs *your* help! When: 8:30AM-3PM Where: US Bank, 333 N. Euclid Ave. Who: Everybody! What: We're going to need runners, people to help with books, people to help read to the children, and people to help with Santa! :D Santa's house will be located on D Street and Euclid! HAUNTED HIKE - On October 26, CHHS Key Club spent the entire night covered in “blood” and lurked in the dark shadows trying to scare innocent folk. Not in random of course. We planned this day at the McCoy Equestrian Center where the city staff had amazingly transformed the center into a frightful walk in which volunteers had the opportunity to scare brave individuals who dared enter. It was too much fun to be able to yell at the top of your lungs and emerge from a bush with surprise. An experience like this allowed the Key clubbers to meet new people and work alongside with the city. Overall, this event was a great way to get pumped for Halloween while being able to volunteer as well! -Jaihee Choi

Though so deprived of being too old to trick-or-treat on Halloween, I definitely found a new way in entertaining myself on Halloween at Haunted Hike. The minute I walked into the yard prepared for Haunted Hike, I felt a sudden “fear” of so many little kids, dressed as vampires and goblins. I was no exactly shaken by their outfits, instead, I was shocked to see the HUGE number of kids that were running around, tagging each other and hiding under tables. At the second, I had absolutely no hope in handling so many kids. Then, I met Marcy, the staff in charge of the event. She ran from place to place with such energy and enthusiasm like a drifting ghost with no legs. But then I saw her, instead she was panting and sweating, just trying to seem energetic. But anyways, I was assigned to work at the concession stands. That was where I experienced the “real” terror. I worked there with two other members, one collecting money, the other passing out candy. There was one more job, SERVING POPCORN. All at once when I opened a pack of popcorn ready to poor in and pop, a HORRIFYING number of miniature creatures came flocking my way with fangs of desire for popcorn. A few people ordered 8 popcorns at once, where there popcorn maker only made 4-5 bags each time. But with great amounts of effort and with another helper helping me with the popcorn, we were AT LEAST able to manage 200 bags of popcorn. But what really taught me was the number of Key Clubbers who helped during the event. With Marcy running around from one place to another, it would’ve been quite impossible to manage concession stands along with everything else altogether. It hit me that Key Club really plays a huge role in the community but service wise and enjoyment wise.

We set 3 rounds, and the teams enthusiastically recited their cheers. The teams that did lose left the area to practice their cheers again. Every member wanted to promise a victory at Fall Rally. Judging the cheers, watching members from different schools help one another, and witnessing the desire to demonstrate their Key Club spirit, I couldn’t help but feel happy. At that moment, I did not care if we won the next day or not. I had finally received the satisfaction of an officer: seeing your members treat each other like family. I am beyond proud of all the members that attended Northern Section. In their consistency, their passion, and their love for Key Club, they had completed much more than simply memorizations of cheers. From a person perspective, I believe Division 15 has accomplished something that not many Divisions can boast about. We are family. It doesn’t matter what school, what grade, or how dedicated each member has proven to be. A Key Clubber in Division 15 is accepted by the rest of us. Well done, Division 15. -Brandon Swan

I would like to begin this article by thanking the officers/members who took the liberty to step up and represent their schools for our Pre-Fall Rally North: Minh-Tuan Tran, Priscilla Lieu, Gianna Garcia, Cassidy Koo, Kayla Yamada, and Kevin Wang. Pre-Fall Rally Northern Section had a lot of expectations to fulfill. With Division 15 dominating all Region 13 events, the word that D15 would run General Session 4 spread quite quickly, and efficiently. To top it off, there were 7 schools in attendance for Pre-Fall Rally Northern Section. There was a lot of work that was needed to create an amazing PFRS, but we pulled it together! LOHS was proud to host the traditional Pre-Fall Rally, and we even managed to bring Food Trucks after school! Tummies full, excitement rising, and expecting eyes falling on the stage, the Representatives took a deep breath, and began. We started off by numbering members 1 through 5 in order to later separate them into teams. Without them understanding why we numbered them, many of the members were compliant when we explained it was for something else. Then the teaching began. Thankfully, LOHS’ advisor, Dr. Shrempp, provided a megaphone, allowing the Representatives to efficiently explain how the cheers sounded as well as how the stomping and clapping worked. We then proceeded to move the members to the patio, where they were protected from the wind and placed underneath light. The competitiveness immediately altered the atmosphere as we split the members into teams.


As the holidays approach, many people look forward to the decorations, festivities, and most importantly, the food. But during this time of the year, Claremont High School Key Club is most excited for volunteering at the annual Pilgrim Place Festival.

Pilgrim Place is a fundraiser and celebration held in Claremont for the residents in this senior community who have served in religious or charitable non-profit organizations. The two day celebration on November 9th and 10th features the talents, activities, and crafts of the residents of Pilgrim Place. The proceeds from the Festival go toward the community to meet daily financial expenses. CHS Key Club is privileged to have the opportunity along with Kiwanis, to volunteer at the events to benefit the Pilgrim Place community. This year, Key Clubbers helped out at the Bakes and Sweets Booth and were responsible for selling homemade goods made personally by the Pilgrims: jams, marmalades, pies, bread, cookies, fudge, and various other treats. The event attracts individuals from all over the community and thus Bakes and Sweets is always a very busy booth.

We look forward to next year’s Pilgrim Place Festival as there is no event quite like it. The Pilgrim Place senior residents work all year for these two days that are certainly always worth it.
