1 About Yi Yi is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, non-profit, industry-led and industry- managed organisation playing a proactive role in India’s development process. Yi came into being in the year 2002 with the noble objective to represent the voice of young Indians on a global platform and thereby contribute to the realisation of the dream of a developed nation. Since its inception, Yi has been trying to shape the characters of the young blood of India. With an attitude of “We Can, We Will and We Must”, Yi intends to expand into a larger movement of young people. Chapter Chair’s Message It was an extremely busy, fruitful and momentous 2012-13, which brought along enriching experiences and fetched new associations and friendships for me. When I took over as the Chapter Chair a year ago, my goal was to make a mark and inculcate innovative activities through my actions, methods and approach. We added many dynamic young members in the last year. These ‘young Indians’ along with the ‘senior Indians’ have brought about a fine blend of experience and enthusiasm to Yi. Yi Pune has grown in the past one year through good additions to member count and a significant increase in the number of activities conducted. For the first time ever, Yi hosted and organised national-level events; Road to Ideas, CII-India@75-Yi Conclave ‘Nurturing the Positive Powers of India’ and an interactive session with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Further, unique scalable drives at the regional-level were launched under Health, Education and Employability verticals... to mention a few of the achievements. I would like to profusely thank my two co-chairs, Ms. Sheetal Navani and Dr. Alok Patel for all their support and extend my heartiest congratulations to the chair (Designate) Mr. Dhruv Agarwal, who incidently would be the youngest Chair Yi Pune. Friends, so much has been done and much more is to be achieved in future. I am sure, with a continued passion for work, confidence in abilities and faith in opportunities, we will meet our goals and realize our dreams. World Earth Hour: 31 March 2012

Governments, businesses and organizations across the world supported World Earth Hour. Members of Yi Pune also contributed to conservation of energy by switching-off lights at their homes and offices from 6-7 P.M. Yi Pune had also initiated a digital awareness campaign via social media such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to inspire friends, colleagues, corporates and communities to support Earth Hour celebrations. This drive garnered the support of over 5,000 people who underlined their commitment towards conservation of energy.

Arts, Sports and Culture VerticalFundraiser on the Screening of IPL Final Match: 30 May 2012

A fundraiser was organised during the screening of the IPL final match at Vie Lounge, Pune, in aid of Aman Setu, a registered charitable trust that has been actively engaged in research work, curriculum development, teacher training, and running a remedial centre. It works for the promotion of inclusive education in the country. The event

A cricket ball and a bat autographed by the Pune Warriors team were also auctioned at the event.

Heritage Photography Contest: World Heritage Week: 21-28

August 2012

A photography contest was organised to celebrate World Heritage Week. Photographers were invited to explore and experience the heritage of Pune and capture it through the lens. Contestants were asked to post their photos on the Yi Pune Facebook page. The entries were judged in two categories—the popular choice and the judges’ choice. The winners were given cash prizes. The contest was conceptualised and implemented by Mr. Darshan Mutha, National Chair, Education Vertical.

Health World Health Day: 5 April 2012

A free dental check-up camp was organised at Pirangut near Pune where more than 200 students from a nearby government school were diagnosed with dental ailments by the doctors from Bharati Vidyapeeth (BVP), Pune. Deworming tablets were also distributed amongst the students. In yet another pertinent activity, apples and deworming tablets were distributed among 500 students of Shrisant Gadge Maharaj Vidyalay, Koregaon Park, Pune. Students were also informed about importance of nutritious food and healthy diet practices.

Deworming Health Camp at Ranjangoan: 24 July 2012

A dental health check-up and deworming tablet distribution camp was organised at the Zilla Parishad School in Ranjangaon near Pune in association with EATON Industries and NNP Plus—a noted social group. Dr. Alok Patel, Co-Chair Yi Pune cum Chair of the Health Vertical, was the co-coordinator for the event.

Celebrating National Nutrition Week, Kondhur: 6 September 2012

Inspired by the theme of ‘Nutrition Promotion for a Stronger Nation’ under the National Nutrition Week, a health camp was organised in a school at Kondhur village in Mulshi tehsil near Pune. Around 280 children participated in this camp. The event was well attended by Ms. Sheetal Navani, Co-Chair, Yi Pune, Dr. Alok Patel, Co-Chair, Yi Pune, Ms. Manisha Bansal, Co-Chair, Health Vertical, Yi Pune, along with an expert team of doctors from BVP, Pune, and members from Yi Pune Secretariat. More than 300 packets of jaggery-chana and bananas sponsored by Cybage Software along with deworming tablets were distributed amongst the students. A talk on dental health and nutrition was given by Dr. Chetna Jagtap on the occasion. The move was intended to address problems of malnutrition prevalent amongst children and to generate awareness on how to tackle this problem through affordable dietary supplements. The children were then examined and treated by a team of dentists from BVP.

Free Dental Treatment Camp at BVP: 13 December 2012

As a part of this initiative, over 40 students from the Government School at Maher, who were diagnosed with dental ailments during an earlier dental check-up camp were brought to the BVP campus in Pune for free medicinal and surgical treatment. The project envisions to touch upon more than 3,000 students in 2013 and to expand its ambit beyond Pune in near future.

Serum Vaccine Distribution Camp: 15 February 2013

In association with the Serum Institute, Pune, free vaccines were donated for the children in the care of Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra (BSSK), which provides welfare services to needy families and children. BSSK has a child care centre, which provides shelter to orphaned and destitute children in the age group ranging from new-born babies to six-years. Approximately 140 children from different branches of the organization were administered the vaccines for different diseases.

Youth Affairs Vertical Orientation Programmes

A session on mind mechanics conducted by Mr. Dhruv Agarwal, Co-Chair, Youth Affairs and Director, Mind Mechanics, along with Mr. Kush Agarwal, Director, Mind Mechanics, was organised for the students of the Indira Institute of Career Studies (IICS). More than 100 students belonging to various management streams of the Institute along with Mr. Raji Thomas, Director, IICS, attended the session. Simple and wonderful visual techniques were demonstrated during the session to help the students train their minds to sharpen memory skills and work towards achieving desired results.

A similar session on visual techniques was conducted by the duo at Indira Institute of Management (IIMP). Here the students were also briefed about benefits Yi Nets’ membership and various activities conducted.

Mr. Dhruv Agarwal also addressed a session at the Vishwakarma Institute of Management (VIM), Pune. Apart from a large number of students from various management streams, the session was also attended by, Prof. Ketaki Kulkarni, Training and Placement Officer, VIM.

Ms. Shoma Srivastava, Co-Chair, Youth Affairs, addressed a gathering of 150 students of Symbiosis College of Nursing (SCN). She underlined the benefits accrued by a student net member and encouraged the participants to join en masse. The session was well attended by the faculty members along with Col Ms. Jayalakshmi N, Principal, SCN.

Road to Ideas, Pune: 3 November 2012

A national innovation run – ‘Road to Ideas’ was conducted from 1-4 November 2012. The run was officially flagged off at Indore on 1st November 2012 and it reached Pune on 3rd November 2012. Here the teams visited Eaton Technologies, Cybage Software and Suzlon One Earth campus to carry out a standardized assessment of the innovations at work in these companies and its impact on community and industry. Yi Next Practices conceived “Road to Ideas” as a part of the process of evangelizing the spirit of innovation and inspiring youth to think big and differently. The event got an enthusiastic response with 12 teams constituting a total of 48 participants across the nation. For this event, 24 students from eight cities travelled to four cities across four states.

Signing of MOU with Indira Institute of Management, Pune: 28 December 2012

With a vision to influence, inspire and motivate students across the city, the fourth Yi Students Net was started at the IIM, Pune by officially ratifying an MOU with the institute. The signing of the MOU was followed by an interactive session on ‘Successful Leadership’ which was conducted by Mr. Rajeev Bhide, Vice Chairman, CII Pune Zonal Council and Managing Director, Elantas Beck India Ltd.

Annual Distribution Drive, Pune: 16 July 2012

The Annual Collection Drive organised by the Education Vertical to collect clothes, books and toys for underprivileged women and children got an overwhelming response. Generous voluntary contributions poured in from the Yi members and many independent industry representatives. The Chapter tied up with a well-known NGO Muskaan, which works for women empowerment. The chapter donated 4,000 garments to Muskaan. Toys were distributed amongst the labourers engaged at a project site of Gera Developers, while books and other study material were sent across to Sri Madhavrao Sonba Tupe School, Hadapsar, B Wadgoan School, Budruk and Royal Roses, Budruk.

Launch of e-learning module of the CII-Yi, ITI Finishing School: 29 August 2012

After successfully implementing the “Finishing School’ concept across all Yi subdivisions in Pune, the CII-Yi in partnership with the industry came out with an e-learning CD on Finishing School module to reach out to more Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), initially across the state and gradually across the Western India. CII-Yi organised the launch of e-learning module by Mr. Vijay Kumar Gautam, Commissioner - Employment, Self-Employment and Skill Development, Government of Maharashtra. The CD will assist in replicating the Finishing School concept in the ITIs in the state. Till date, CII-Yi has taken up more than 18 batches based on different trades at various ITIs in Pune benefitting over 900 students.

Interactive Session with Mr. Jayant K Banthia: 19 October 2012

An interactive session with Mr. Jayant Kumar Banthia, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra, was organised to unveil Maharashtra State Skill Development Society’s Stakeholders’ Web portal and also provide an update on the CII-Yi and ITI Finishing School e-learning module rollout in Maharashtra and pan-India. The portal would act as a one-stop-shop for the industry requirements to reduce the gap between employer and skilled labour availability, thus enhancing the level of skills in the state and across the nation.

FDP for ITI Trainers: 7-9 December 2012

A three-day training session for ITI trainers in Pune was organized to acquaint them with the basics contained in the Finishing School module. The training session was formally inaugurated by Mr. Vijay Kumar Gautam. Also present were Ms. Meher Pudumjee, Managing Director, Thermax Ltd; Ms. Padmini Sundaram, Yi National Co-Chair on Employability; Ms. Ritu Nathani, Chapter Chair, Yi Pune, and others. The concluding day of the training session was marked by the presence of Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, Chairman, CII Western Region, and Dr. Nandini Kannan, Joint CEO & Director, Training and Capability Building, Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, Department of Education, Government of Gujarat. Six faculties from noted industries trained around 70 trainers in batches of 20 on modules such as Team Work and Employee Relations, among others.

Celebrating Joy of Giving Week, Pirangut: 2 October 2012

It was indeed a touching experience to visit Sanskar Pratisthan’s Matimand Mulanchi Shala, a special school for mentally challenged children at Pirangut near Pune. Started by Mr. Ulhas and Mrs. Pratibha Kenjale, the school provides free education to more than 40 mentally challenged children of different age groups. Apart from conventional learning and sports activities, these students are trained in various skills such as agriculture, sewing carpets and rugs, and cattle rearing, among others to make them self-reliant. On this occasion, a double door refrigerator, mats and musical instruments were donated to the school. Members distributed chocolates and juice packs to students and had a wonderful time interacting with them.

Learning Session at IUCAA: 5 July 2012

Yi Pune, in association with Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), organised a talk titled ‘India’s Contribution to the Field of Astronomy and the Relevance of Astronomy in the World Today’ for Yi members, their families and

friends. Prof. Samir Dhurde from IUCAA’s outreach programme gave an interesting presentation on the topic. He also showed the participants some rare photographs. He explained how Astronomy was probably the only field that had the whole world working collaboratively to come to global conclusions. He elaborated on the contribution by Indian astronomers. The participants were also escorted around the campus. Graft from ‘Newton’s original apple tree” in Oxford, statues of Aryabhatta, Newton, Einstein and Galileo, Foucault’s pendulum and various elements of astronomy and astrophysics built into the architecture such as a constellation dome offered an amazing sight. The session was well attended by over 50 people including members, non-members and students.

Interactive Session with Sri Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev: 17 July 2012

Members of Yi Pune had the coveted opportunity to meet Shri Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev at Pune. A number of members participated in the event where Shri Hazare discussed his ideas and the road ahead. He also invited all the members to Ralegansiddhi for a detailed discussion on his anti-corruption movement.

Rendezvous with Mr. Purab Kohli: 13 September 2012

An interactive session was organised with Mr. Purab Kohli, the well-known actor who has worked in movies like ‘My Brother Nikhil’ and Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Rock On’. The session was formally inaugurated by Ms. Ritu Nathani, Chapter Chair, Yi Pune. Ms. Minoti Makim, Chair, Learning Vertical, Yi Pune, conducted the session. Mr. Purab Kohli shared how he chose acting as his career, his future plans, the challenges faced by an actor in the competitive world of Bollywood and the importance of contributing to the betterment of the society. Mr. Purab Kohli supports an NGO ‘Toybank - Giving Back the Right to Childhood’, which distributes toys among underprivileged children. The audience also donated loads of toys to Toybank.

CII in association with Yi and CII’s India@75 organised the CII-India@75-Yi Conclave at Pune. Based on the theme “Nurturing the Positive Powers of India”, the conclave was designed to focus on the methods for streamlining the energies of the Indian youth towards development initiatives. Leading the various schools of thought at the conclave was Mr. K V Kamath, Past President, CII, Chairman, ICICI Bank, and Chairman, Infosys Ltd.

Ms. Anupama Arya, National Chairperson, Yi, inaugurated the Conclave with a welcome note. Mr. Rajan Navani, Chairman, CII National Committee on India@75, set the theme through his thoughts on how the Indian society today is getting integrated. Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, Chairman, CII Western Region and Member Apex Council of India@75 urged the participants to contribute towards the betterment of the country.

Apex Council of India@75. Mr. Arun Maira, Member-Planning Commission, Government of India, Member Trustee India@75 Foundation and Member Apex Council, India@75 suggested that the empowerment approach should be through social

inclusion rather than by subsidies. Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Ms. Supriya Sule, Member of Parliament (Baramati Lok Sabha constituency) shared their views on the political and governmental aspects of the subject.

A score of speakers from different backgrounds spoke at the conclave. The panellists Ms. Meher Pudumjee, Chairperson, Thermax Ltd; Ms. Rati Forbes, Director, Forbes Marshall; Ms. Neera Nundy, Co-Founder, Dasara Foundation and Mr. Abhijit Pawar, Managing Director, Sakal Media Group

Ms. Lakshmi Pratury, Host and Curator, INK Talks; Mr. E Sarath Babu, Founder Foodking Catering Services; Ms. Revathi Roy, Head, Investor Relations Brick Eagle and Ms. Krushnaa Patil, the well-known mountaineer spoke on the power of youth as a change maker. The concluding session was a tête-à-tête with Mr. Manish Malhotra, the renowned fashion designer, who spoke on Bollywood and fashion industry.

Office bearers of Yi including Mr. Srikant Surya Narayanan, National Vice Chairman, Yi; Ms. Ritu Nathani, Chapter Chair, Yi Pune, and Ms. Rasika Wakalkar, Past Chair, Yi Pune, moderated the sessions in the Conclave, which also witnessed a grand participation from managing directors and CEOs of the leading corporates in the city.

Interactive Session with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam : 14 February 2013

In continuation with the India@75 theme of ‘Nurturing the Positive Powers of India’, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, and fondly known as the “Peoples’ President” shared his views on the power of a strong society and how it could be leveraged in today’s world. The session was held at Yi Net in the Indira Institute of Commerce and Science (IICS), Pune. Ms. Ritu Nathani, Chapter Chair Yi Pune, in her welcome address spoke about the vision and mission of Yi. Addressing the audience, Dr. Kalam said, “The ignited mind of the youth is the most powerful resource on the earth, under the earth and above the earth. If you have an aim in life, continuously acquire the knowledge, work hard, have the confidence to win and also have the confidence to defeat problems and succeed with a righteous heart, you will definitely succeed in all your missions.”

At the start of the confab, Mr. Rajan Navani, Chairman, CII National Committee on India@75, set the context of the session by discussing how the Indian society can contribute constructively in national growth. Mr. Raja Kochar, Chairman, CII Pune Zonal Council, talked about CII and its initiative to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India. Mr. Chetan Wakalkar, Managing Trustee & Group Director, Indira Group of Institutes, presented the vote of thanks and urged the students to follow the ideals of Dr. Kalam.
