The GPA and GAMSAT Cut-Off Scores for 2011 Entry to the Graduate Medical Programs
School Minimum requirements
ANU ANU ranks applicants based on a combined weighted GPA and overall GAMSAT score. To be considered, applicants must have a weighted GPA of 34* and an overall GAMSAT score of 55. This means they offer interviews to people with a range of GPA/overall GAMSAT score combinations. *For further information on the ANU system of calculating a weighted GPA, please refer to their website: [email protected]
Deakin Deakin ranks applicants for interview based on weighted GPA and Overall GAMSAT Score in equal proportion. To be considered, applicants must have a weighted GPA of at least 5.0 and all GAMSAT Section scores at least 50. This means they offer interviews to people with a range of GPA/Overall GAMSAT Score combinations. Deakin used an overall formula calculation for selection with no individual discrete cut-‐off mark.
Flinders Flinders ranks applicants for interview primarily on the basis of Overall GAMSAT score. To be interviewed for admission in 2011, an overall GAMSAT score of 61 was required, with minimum section scores of 50 in Sections I and III and 45 in Section II. For sub-‐quota places and places in the Northern Territory Medical Program, additional criteria were also taken into account and the GAMSAT scores needed were generally lower than those stated above.
Griffith Griffith ranks applicants for interview on the basis of the Overall GAMSAT Score. Applicants who were successful in gaining an interview at Griffith University for 2011 entry averaged an overall GAMSAT score of 64.2 and met the GPA requirement of 5.00 or better.
Melbourne Melbourne ranked applicants for interview based on the weighted GPA and the GAMSAT score (where each of the three sections is weighted equally) to provide a rank list of applicants for selection. As a result of using this method there were no discrete cut-‐off marks for either GPA or GAMSAT. The indicative lower limit scores candidates offered an interview were 50 for GAMSAT and 5.0 for GPA.
Monash Monash ranks applicants for interview on Overall GAMSAT Score. Applicants must have achieved a minimum score of 50 in each of the three GAMSAT Sections. The minimum Overall GAMSAT Score considered was 60 for a non-‐special category place. A minimum weighted GPA of 5.0 was considered.
Notre Dame Fremantle
The University Notre Dame Australia School of Medicine Fremantle ranks on combined weighted GPA, Overall GAMSAT Score and Supplementary Form. This means they offer interviews to people with a range of GPA/Overall GAMSAT/Supplementary Form score combinations. The overall formula calculation had no individual discrete cut-‐off mark. Applicants who were successful in gaining an interview at UNDA for 2011 entry averaged an overall GAMSAT score of 57 and an average GPA of 6.1.
Notre Dame Sydney
The University Notre Dame Australia School of Medicine Sydney ranks on combined weighted GPA, Overall GAMSAT Score and Application Form. This means they offer interviews to people with a range of GPA/Overall GAMSAT/Application Form score combinations. The overall formula calculation had no individual discrete cut-‐off mark. Applicants who were successful in gaining an interview at UNDS for 2011 entry averaged an overall GAMSAT score of 58 and an average GPA of 6.12.

For the 2011 entry main applicant pool cohort, an Overall GAMSAT Score of 66 was required (with minimum Section scores of 50). For the Rural Background Student cohort, an Overall GAMSAT Score of 64 was required (with minimum Section scores of 50). Both cohorts required the minimum GPA of 5.0.
UWA UWA ranks applicants for interview based on GPA (unweighted) and Overall GAMSAT score in equal proportion. This means we offer interviews to people with a range of GPA/Overall GAMSAT Score combinations. To be considered, applicants must have an Overall GAMSAT Score of at least 50 and a GPA of at least 5.5. For 2011 entry, we considered applicants who had one individual GAMSAT sectional score below 50 provided the score was at least 47 if obtained in section one or two of the test, or 49 if obtained in section three. For applicants to remain in contention with an individual section score below 50, either their Overall GAMSAT Score or their GPA must have been in the top third of applicants within their quota. Applicants in this situation were then ranked and those with competitive Overall GAMSAT and GPA combinations were invited for interview. The range of GPAs for applicants who secured an interview for the 2011 cohort was 5.61-‐ 7.0 while the range of Overall GAMSAT scores was 51-‐77. However, the lower the Overall GAMSAT Score, the higher the GPA required and vice versa. Urban applicants who obtained an interview with a GPA below 6, had an Overall GAMSAT Score of at least 64 (applicants with a GPA below 5.75 had overall GAMSAT scores above 70). Urban applicants who obtained an interview with an Overall GAMSAT Score between 51-‐54, had a GPA of at least 6.75. The average GPA was 6.49 for urban applicants and 6.15 for rural applicants. The average Overall GAMSAT Score was 61.2 for urban students and 59.3 for rural applicants.
Wollongong Wollongong ranks applicants for interview on the basis of Overall GAMSAT Score, GPA and a completed Portfolio. For the 2011 interview cohort, a minimum Overall GAMSAT Score of 50 was required (with minimum Section scores of 50), the minimum GPA required was 5.0 and strong Portfolio should include links with either a regional, rural or remote community. UOW used an overall formula calculation for selection therefore individual cut point scores are not relevant.
