The Strange OnesDirectors: LAUREN WOLKSTEIN, CHRISTOPHER RADCLIFFWriters: Lauren Wolkstein, Christopher RadcliffProducer: Sebastian Aubert, Ad Astra FilmsUSA, Narrative, 14 min., 2011SYNOPSIS: A man and a boy, traveling to an unknown destination, find respite in a motel swimming pool. On the surface all seems normal, but nothing is what it seems to be.

Director LAUREN WOLKSTEIN is a graduate of the Columbia University School of the Arts. Her short film, CIGARETTE CANDY, was short-listed for an Academy Award, and has received numerous festival awards.

Director CHRISTOPHER RADCLIFF is also a Columbia University graduate, where his short film work received numerous honors including the IFP Audience Choice Award (STRANGER).

Director NUNO ROCHA is an award-winning filmmaker from Portugal. After graduation from the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, he began working in advertising in Lisbon, which included work for the Ministry of the Environment. Soon after, he was accepted into the University of Texas film school, and upon graduation became the managing partner of FilmesDeMente, which produced this film. He was recently signed to work for American producer Michael Bay.

Paths of HateDirector: DAMIEN NENOWWriter: Damien NenowProducers: Marcin KobyleckiPoland, Animation, 10 min., 2010SYNOPSIS: Two fighter pilots battle one-on-one in this tale about the demons that slumber deep in the human soul, and have the power to push people into the abyss of blind hate, fury, and rage.

Director/Animator DAMIEN NENOW is a graduate of the Lodz Film School, where PATHS OF HATE was his diploma project. He is a specialist in various fields relating to computer graphics and the author

of short animated films (“The Aim”, “Great Escape”), illustrations, and concept art. He currently works at Platige Image Studios in Warsaw where he directs, creates animation, edits, and works on the conception of 3-D graphics.

SYNOPSIS: In a mysterious hospital, modification of physical beauty is not what you would expect. A girl’s desire for superficial beauty leads her down a path toward something unimaginable and irreversible.

Director/Animator BEOMSIK SHIMBE SHIM was born in South Korea where he majored in fine art and worked as a visual artist. He moved to the US in 2003 to work on independent film projects. His short films have won awards at the Seattle, LA, and Athens film festivals. PATHS OF HATE was the winner of the prize for Best Student Film at this year’s prestigious SIGGRAPH Animation Festival.

The Hunter and the Swan Discuss Their MeetingDirector: EMILY CHARMICHAELWriter: Emily CharmichaelProducer: Josh HetzlerUSA, Narrative, 8 min., 2010SYNOPSIS: A Brooklyn couple have dinner with a hunter and his girlfriend, who happens to be a magical swan woman.

Director EMILY CHARMICHAEL is a lifelong New Yorker whose films, plays, paintings, and comics address the divide between reality and fantasy, seeking to describe the world as it is--messy and sometimes disappointing--as well as what it can be: magical and endlessly surprising. Her films have screened at Sundance, Slamdance, Anthology Film Archives, SXSW, CineVegas, and Rooftop FIlms.

The High Level BridgeDirector: TREVOR ANDERSONWriter: Trevor AndersonProducer: Trevor AndersonUSA, Documentary, 5 min., 2010SYNOPSIS: Trevor drops his camera from Edmonton’s High Level

Bridge in memory of the people who have jumped.

Director TREVOR ANDERSON is a self-taught, independent filmmaker andmusician born in Red Deer, Alberta. Hisshort films have been screened at many international film festivals including Berlin, Toronto, AFI Fest in Los Angeles, and SXSW. Trevor also plays music in a

band, THE WET SECRETS, whose song “Secret March” was named by CBC radio and one of the “Best Songs of the Decade.”

The Centrifuge Brain ProjectDirector: TILL NOWAKWriter: Till NowakProducer: Till NowakGermany, Narrative/Animation, 6 min., 2011SYNOPSIS: What if the world were constructed of impossible amusement park rides that appear to grow and breathe? Collected footage and digital animation are combined in this fictional documentary that explores research findings on the influence of thrill rides on brain development.

Director/Animator TILL NOWAK is a digital artist, designer, and filmmaker based in Hamburg, Germany. Till’s work has been exhibited in hundreds of international film festivals, including SIGGRAF 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011,where they have won more than 35 awards. He is also a lecturer in workflow, having spoken in Korea, Germany, Australia, as well as the 361 Conference in Mumbai.

I’m Having a Difficult Time Killing My ParentsDirector: JEFF TOMSICWriters: Jeff Tomsic, T.J. MillerProducers: T.J. Miller, Jeff TomsicUSA, Narrative, 14 min., 2010SYNOPSIS: It’s not that T.J. doesn’t love his parents, it’s just that he wants to kill them.

Director JEFF TOMSIC began his film career at age ten, when he shaved off his eyebrows to play

Spock in his own Star Trek sequel. Since then he has directed commercials for Activision, Speed Stick, Miller, Cadbury-Adams, Hasbro, and Dr. Pepper. Television credits include shows for MTV, VH1, and MSNBC. Jeff teaches filmmaking for kids in the New York City Schools.

SwitchDirector: THOMAS HEFFERONWriters: T.J. Hundtofte, Thomas HefferonProducer: Dave LeahyIreland, Narrative, 9 min., 2011SYNOPSIS: Two years after a traumatic car accident has left a young girl in a catatonic state, the man who put here there seeks out her mother to atone for his crimes.

Director THOMAS HEFFERON is a London native who moved to Ireland with his family in 1999. His first short film, THE CONFESSION, was selected at over 40 major international film festivals. His second short film, THE POOL, was chosen as one of three shorts to be produced by the Irish state broadcaster RTE. In July 2010 he was selected to take part in the Galway Film Fleadh Pitch Award with his treatment for MONSTERS.

24fps, now in its 13th year, is a curated exhibition and juried competition open to any and all filmmakers worldwide.

The Dungeon MasterDirectors: RIDER STRONG, SHILOH STRONGWriters: Rider Strong, Shiloh StrongProducers: Alexandra Barreto, Mong ChanUSA, Narrative, 13 min., 2011SYNOPSIS: Shane and his friends thought it would be fun to recapture their “geeky” childhood with a game of Dungeons and Dragons. But then someone showed up in a cape.

Directors RIDER and SHILOH STRING have been acting in theatre, film, and television for over two decades. Rider is best known for his 7-season run on ABC’s BOY MEETS WORLD and

the cult horror film CABIN DEVER. Shiloh starred in the television adaptation of DINOTOPIA and the sitcom THE MOMMIES. As writer-directors, they produced the award-winning short film IRISH TWINS, and created a spec commercial for the Obama presidential bid that MoveOn.org awarded Funniest Ad. It was the first political ad to appear on Comedy Central.
