Message from the Principal

Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends,

I am writing to you as a member of the Holy Trinity School community. We are grateful to you, our parents, alumni, faculty, alumni parents, grandparents, and friends who demonstrate a commitment to Holy Trinity School through your generous support.

Our 2010-2011 school year was an eventful one for HTS. Th e eighth graders distinguished themselves by their acceptances at highly regarded high schools in the Washington metropolitan area. Our School Advisory Board supported the adoption of a Strategic Plan that sets out a vision for the future of the school.

Th e theme for the year was “Children for Others.” Th is is a foundational element of Jesuit education. It means that the school has at the core of its mission that our graduates will have a sense of social justice. As a school, Holy Trinity continues to encourage the understanding that every person is a gift from God.

With the assistance of friends like you, Holy Trinity School will continue to thrive and grow in the tradition of excellence. On behalf of our faculty and students, I would like to thank you for all that you do for us. We will keep you in our prayers and hope that you will ask God’s continued blessings on all of us who work with His children.

Sincerely yours,

Keith DarrPrincipal

Message from the President of the Home School AssociationDear Holy Trinity School Community:

The parents of Holy Trinity School, through membership in the Home School Associa-tion (HSA), fully embraced the call to be “Parents for Others” during the 2010-2011 school year.

The Home School Association successfully collaborated with HTS and the parish by dedicating yearlong support to the school’s mission through work in four core areas: Jesuit identity, community development, faculty support, and school and scholarship fundraising.

To increase parent understanding of the Jesuit traditions and teachings of Saint Ignatius, HSA sponsored opportunities throughout the year for parents to experience the quintessential Ignatian prayer – the Examen – in the same way that our students end each school day. Through the leadership of our Social Justice Committee, school families cared for others by:• “Gleaning” food for the poor• Walking to end homelessness• Serving weekly McKenna sandwiches to the hungry• Delivering Christmas and Easter gifts to underserved children.

Providing hands-on support to, and recognizing the hard work of, our fi ne faculty is a major goal of the HSA. We accom-plished this in part by:• Room parents for every grade• School boosters for sports and the arts• Teacher representation on the HSA Board • Expressions of appreciation such as teacher enrichment opportunities, a Christmas bonus, faculty appreciation lunches, and year-end thank you gifts.

Holy Trinity School has always relied on the support and involvement of our entire community. HSA helped to bring together current and past parents, grandparents, alumni, parishioners and friends through many of its larger activities. Through events such as Trivia Night, Student-Faculty Game, Book Fair, Trinity Classic Golf & Tennis, and our Annual Gala, HSA provided a warm and welcoming opportunity for our community to become involved in ways that engender lifelong friendships. By raising just under $ 200,000 through our generous community, the students of HTS benefi tted with:• Technology improvements• Sports programs• Professional Development for teachers and staff • Creation of a Strategic Plan Fund and a Gym Development Fund

During the year, members of the HSA Board worked tirelessly with our new principal and the newly formed School Advisory Board to bring the parent perspective to the formation of the HTS Strategic Plan. On behalf of our Board, I want to thank the School Advisory Board’s Strategic Planning Committee- Chris Lyons, Alicia Brown, KC Aiello, and Magda Mooers- for the development of the plan, and Ellen Patterson (Pres. SAB), Father Mark Horak, S.J. and Principal Darr for the wisdom and leadership that brought the plan to life.Holy Trinity School has long enjoyed the generosity of its parents - in spirit, community and gifts. Our students, faculty and parish benefi t in so many ways. Parents benefi t as well. On behalf of the entire HSA Board, I want to thank you for your continued involvement and generous support, and for the strong sense of community that you help build.

Peace,

Denise SicilianoPresident, HSA 2010-2011 PAGE 17
