09-10 SEASON RECAP

The 2009-10 Randolph College men’s basketball team accomplished a lot for such a young team,

From a personnel standpoint, the WildCats continued to be young, but the one senior

leader in Jason Rutschman came to the forefront. Rutschman was named to the All-ODAC Honor-

able Mention team after averaging 10.2 points and 2.9 boards per contest. A strong junior

class also continued to make strides, as Caleb Pearson, Pete Hamilton, Tim Clarke and Cam-

eron Shepherd all played large roles for the WildCats. Pearson led the team in minutes played,

starting in 23 of the team’s 26 games, while Hamilton edged closer to becoming the school’s

from distance and also played strong defense. Two big standouts in the sophomore class in

“I’mexcitedaboutourseniorclass,anytimeyouhaveaseniorclassyouhaveexperience,youhaveplayersthathavebeen

program, and they helped get things started. So in that respect, there’s a unique set of circumstances that makes my relationship with

them even more special.”

“There is a reason that we are as close as we are as a team, and it was the way that we bonded and stayed close throughout

the seasons,” said Clarke. “We’re looking to have a good season this year, and a lot of it will come from that.”

“Our team unity is a huge part in us going to the ODAC Tournament and getting a win,” said Hamilton. “Right now, we’re

The WildCats roster does have a nice mix of newcomers and returning talent, with 13 players from the 2009-10 team returning to the fold. The strength of the core group

of returners may be the guard position, which is led by the seniors along with junior Malcolm Nelson (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) and second-year player Colton Hunt (Buford,
