CSA Membership: Members are strongly encouraged to join the Cymbidium Society of America. The

CSA is the parent organization of the GCCG and provides liability insurance for GCCG events. Contact Darrel Wong at any of the GCCG meetings for CSA membership information or contact the CSA membership secretary, Clara Moura at 510-537-8923, via email at [email protected] or by mail at 1742 Grove Way, Castro Valley, CA 94546. Dues are $35.00 per year and include a subscription to the CSA Journal.

Nominating Committee: The nominating Committee was chosen last month and consists of the

following Board members and Members at Large: Marron Honigman (chair), Carl Jukkola, Pat Raynak, Jeff Trimble, and Katie Walden. Their proposed slate will be presented at this month's Board Meeting and the nominating committee report will then be presented at the March meeting. Additional candidates will be considered until the close of the April meeting and the members will vote for the new officers and board at the May meeting.

GCCG Show: Our Show is next month and everyone should be keeping an eye on those special plants

which they plan to enter, as well as letting our chair (once again Audrey Young-Tarter), know the jobs for which you are willing to volunteer. The show schedule and potluck food assignments will be detailed in the April newsletter but the schedule and sales forms are currently on the GCCG website.

Show judging will take place on Friday night, April 16, in conjunction with our annual potluck dinner. The show will be open to the public on Saturday, April 17, from 10 AM to 4 PM, and will include member plant sales. Many members signed up last month to help but there is always room for more members in all those little tasks that help make a show successful. There will still be an opportunity to sign-up at this meeting as well as get entry show cards.

Unprinted Labels - $2 per bundle of 100 labels; Single-edged Razor Blades - $5 per box of 100 blades; Pots: 5" x 5": .20 each; 1 gallon - .50 each, 2 gallon - $1.00 each; 3 gallon - $1.50 each; Stakes: 3' - 20 for $2.00, 4' - 20 for $3.00.

ICU: Bring a problem plant (properly packaged if sick) and our ICU "Doctor for the Night" will try to

answer your questions during the break. Email Newsletter: This year we are encouraging all members who have email addresses and are

currently NOT receiving the Newsletter by email to consider doing so. Hard copy mailing costs approximately $5.00 per year and GCCG began charging that with the 2009-2010 memberships. If you would like to receive your GCCG Newsletter via email, please send your request to: [email protected]

Plant Judging: The CSA judges Cymbidiums, Paphiopedilums, and Phragmipediums at the Lakeside Garden Center in Oakland on the fourth Wednesday of each month except November and December, when it is on the third Wednesday. To have a plant judged, call Jeff Trimble at 650-368-8260 at least one day in advance, to ensure that the CSA judges know that plants will be submitted for judging. Plant entry is between 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM the evening of judging. Clerks can advise you in filling out the plant entry form on your arrival. If you have a plant that will be ready for judging at one of our GCCG meetings, please contact Jeff Trimble at least 24 hours prior to our meeting. The AOS judges all genera of orchids in San Francisco at the SF County Fair Building (Hall of Flowers) in Golden Gate Park on the first Tuesday, and in Oakland at the Lakeside Garden Center on the third Monday, of each month. For either judging, plants need to be submitted to the clerks between 6:15 PM and 7:00 PM. CSA and/or AOS judging takes place at most of the local shows. Contact the show organizers for specifics regarding plant entry for judging.

MEMBER SALES RULES FOR THE 2010 GCCG SHOW AND SALE

Sale hours 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

To ensure that our show runs as smoothly as possible, the Show Committee has set into place the following rules concerning the sale of member plants:

1. Members are not limited in the number of plants brought in for sale, but please be considerate of your fellow members and do not overload the sales table at any one time.

2. Please make sure your clean, labeled, sales ready, plants are brought to the garden center between 9 AM and 10 AM on Saturday. No sales plants will be accepted Friday night due to space limitations or after 10:00 AM on Saturday.

3. Member sales plants should be priced in whole dollar amounts with the Commercial Member plant seller receiving 75% of the displayed price and the Non-commercial Member plant seller receiving 80% of the displayed price. The displayed price includes sales tax.

4. Each member will provide a master list* of plants checked in for sale. It is advised that the member keep a second copy for record keeping.

5. Members selling plants must work the sale at least a half day (3 hours) on Saturday. Who knows a plant better than its seller? Any members who were not present in the morning to sell their plants will have their plants removed from the sales area if they are not present by 1:00PM.

6. Member sellers are asked to provide a detachable label* with the owner ID and sale price on each plant.

7. Unsold member plants may be checked out and removed only after 4 PM on Saturday at the close of the show.

8. Member’s checks will be based on the removable tags’ accumulated sale prices. Lost tags are not the responsibility of GCCG. Each member selling plants assumes risk of such tags, and unless the member can indisputably verify that the sale occurred, there will be no reimbursement to the member.

9. The above rules will be deemed accepted upon submitting the plants for sale and the plant ID list. If there are questions or concerns pertaining to these rules, please address them to the Ways and Means Chair, Marron Honigman, by phone at 408-257-4855 or preferably by email at [email protected]. *Copies of the preferred forms will be attached to the email version of the April GCCG newsletter or may be downloaded from the GCCG website. Hardcopies will also be available at the Friday Potluck Dinner and Show.
