2009 WESTEST 2ONLINE WRITING OVERVIEW

All students in grades 3-11, except for APTA students, will be tested.

Students will log in using their 9-digit WVEIS number and the “Password of the Day”.

Testing accommodations as indicated on a student’s IEP, Section 504, or LEP Plan must be providedCheck WVS.326 (testing accommodations

designated on WVEIS); have special education staff review for correctness; contact case manager to make corrections if needed; document that the accommodations were provided during testing

2009 WESTEST 2ONLINE WRITING OVERVIEW

Students must have a signed “Acceptable Use of the Internet Form” on file or the student must hand write the composition and a trained scribe must type it online.

Tests are to be administered according to Mingo County’s assigned testing window.March 2 – 13 for grades 6, 7, 8March 23 – April 3 for grades 9, 10, 11March 30 – April 21 for grades 3, 4, 5

2009 WESTEST 2ONLINE WRITING OVERVIEW

Only trained Examiners who have signed the “Examiner’s/Scribe’s Secure Materials and Test Procedures Agreement” can administer and/or transcribe the test.

The Online Writing score will be a part of the WESTEST 2 RLA score and will count toward AYP. Students who do not take the Writing Assessment

will not have the opportunity to earn the 30 points associated with this test.

2009 WESTEST 2ONLINE WRITING OVERVIEW

The WESTEST 2 Online Writing Assessment is not timed. Every student must be given the time he/she needs to complete the assessment within the confines of the school day. The test must be completed within the same school day in which it was started.

Students who typically take longer to complete tests may be grouped together.

It is recommended that an Examiner end the test when a students stops working for more than 10 minutes.

HOMEBOUND/ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL STUDENTS (pg.8)

ACCOMMODATIONSDOCUMENTATION PROCEDURE

After each WESTEST administration, the assigned Examiner(s)will mark the WVS.326 report as follows:

• Underline the name(s) of his/her assigned student(s).• Circle the accommodation(s) that were provided to each of

the student(s).• Asterisk the accommodation(s) that were not provided and

the reason they were not provided to each of the student(s).

If a student refuses an accommodation(s) write “REFUSED” and the reason for refusal for any accommodation(s) the student refused to accept.

• Sign with legible signature/date of test administration at the bottom of each page of the report.

• Return the WVS.326 Testing Options Report(s) to the Principal/Building Level Coordinator.

The only acceptable reasons for not providing the Writing Assessment accommodations are if the student:

1) refused to accept the accommodation(s) or

2) finished the test before extra breaks were provided

Assigned Examiner(s) must inform the Principal who informs the County Test Coordinator of all incidents of students not receiving accommodation(s) defined in a student’s plan.

Reporting must be done immediately so re-testing, if needed, can be completed during the window. All incidents require written documentation in the student file.

EXAMINER’S RESPONSIBILITIES

During Testing Allow sufficient time for students’ questions prior to

beginning the test. Limit assistance to students to problems with site

navigation, connectivity, or computer hardware. Do not allow students to be on the computer after

they submit their compositions. Ensure that specific information pertinent to the

Writing Assessment is not displayed in the area during test administration. These may include, but are not limited to, writing posters, graphic organizers, and transitional expressions.

ACCOMMODATIONS
