Europe stands for unity in diversity, for common roots and individual forms of expression, for shared traditions and regional
variations. As 2009 marks the fi fth anniversary for Hungary has entered the European Union, the Europa Authentica Cultural
Organization will not celebrate a single country, but rather the whole of the European Union and its 27 Member States. The
EACO’s cultural programs will range contemporary fi ne art, cinematography-art, classical and modern music and fashion
moments.
Since July 2008 the Europa Authentica Cultural Organisation has organised a series of exhibitions entitled “Contemporary art
from the EU Member States”. Each exhibition was dedicated to a particular European Union country and has been organised
in co-operation with the cultural department of the exhibiting country. The exhibitions aim to show the cultural diversity and
richness of Europe and give visitors to the Opera Gallery in Budapest the opportunity to become familiar with contemporary art
from diff erent European countries.
Introduction
We know that art has been around before written language. Ancient carvings and cave-wall paintings attest to an early drive
to participate in artistic endeavours. I would say that our skills as artists have improved since the fi rst cave paintings… but I
think there must be the same seed of creativity that connects long forgotten ancestors and modern artists.
I think that the most obvious similarity is that dedicated artists tend to create art that refl ects important aspects of their lives.
When it comes to ancient man, what could have been more important than food and reproduction? Ancient art is ripe with
images of hunting and pregnant women.
As human society evolved into more stable communities, the art changed. Over time the focus on survival was supplanted with
self-emulation. In ancient Egypt, for example, the art turned to worshipping the value of great kings and all-powerful gods.
The same happened in most cultures.
I doubt that common slaves of Egypt felt that preserving kingly honor for eternity was a motivating factor; slaves probably
would have produced an entirely diff erent art than what we fi nd in tombs had they the resources to create art. What is telling is
that the art that survived from ancient times refl ects directly the values of the people producing and preserving it: in terms of
Egypt… it was of the Pharaohs.
European Medieval art refl ects a mixture of pagan and Christian ideals. We can deduce that local kings whose roots were
largely pagan mixed with the infl uence of Rome. The artistic work commissioned throughout this time is a constant reminder
of those infl uences.
Take this on up to our own time. An important note to take is that as the traditional religious values of historic importance
in the west have been challenged in intellectual circles, the focus of art has strayed. Prehistoric art was focused on life and
death… ancient art turned to the afterlife and mysticism; modern art has no focus. I am confi dent that mass media and the
internet have a large role in the change… perhaps we are still too early in the new era to be able to defi ne the motivating
factor behind the art that will last; but I feel that the reality is that art has no focus in our age because it is not the secluded
craft of the gifted and appointed.
Can we assume that we are diff erent than ancient artists? I doubt we are diff erent. The likely disparity is that very few humans,
throughout the last ten thousand years, could aff ord to practice any artistic endeavours—those who weren’t lucky enough
to be drafted into the artist class had no time or money to be creative when they were in from the fi eld. Modern humans have
much more luxury than ancient people… meaning they have the freedom to participate in artistic endeavours even if their art
brings in little or no fi nancial compensation.
A piece of art is divine to one man and ridiculous to the next. Revered artists of the past may not have produced anything more
amazing than countless others, but through happenstance become icons, so let’s go on with our desire to express ourselves, be
creative and go forward on the journey of Art!

Maria Onyegbule (UK)Birmingham UK – Based Artist
EDUCATIONBA (Hons) Art & Design – University Of Central England (UCE)
PGCE Post Grad in Education – Wolverhampton University
Born in Birmingham, UK. Maria began her art studies in 1970 at the Bournville School of Art. She then went on to study Fash-
ion/costume and Textiles, but later resumed her studies of fi ne arts at the BIAD – University of Central England.
Maria is a freelance artist working from her studio in Birmingham. She is also a Visiting Lecturer at the Walsall college of Art
teaching Drawing, Painting and Printmaking.
STATEMENT ABOUT WORK AND IDEASSome of my new paintings take infl uences from my travels to North and West Africa.
The processes explore diff erent ways of working and incorporating techniques observed, photographed and documented
during my travels.
My translation of ideas, designs and imagery are used for paintings, textile art and 3D work. I incorporate technical skills/
working processes of a more contemporary art form. Within theses paintings I feel that I have explored my own self-identity
through art, my father being West African and my mother Italian I feel I have a rich heritage and diverse background. This is my
journey of discovery. I believe we are far more than individuals we are the vessels of all that has been and the possibility of all
that will be. My work interprets form, texture, decoration, pattern design and colour within the environment. I also focus on
the simple everyday life and culture of the people and their surroundings. A simple market scene becomes a fusion of vibrant
colour that breaths life and pattern. A young man in prayer creates stillness, harmonic balance and refl ection. The colours I use
evoke the feel of Africa and refl ect my desire to remain close in heart to the land of my family origin and that of my ancestors.
In Africa self- taught artists are neither strictly traditional, or western in style, rather there is a fusion of elements transcending
time and place. I explore this concept in my work.
The paintings are a testimony of my exploration. My painting style is neither completely abstract nor representational but a
combination of both. But in short my work shows a cultural diversity, my cultural diversity and that of Africa. I have now moved
on and my new paintings are a development of work that explores and is infl uenced by my travels/residency in Kenya.

ARTIST STATEMENT:We live at a time where shifting cultural assumptions have shattered fi xed notions of continuity and value. The essential truths
that Postmodernism has denied – love, evil, death, the sacred, morality and soteriology have become absent from much con-
temporary art as they have from wider contemporary culture. Yet Postmodernism’s failure to off er consolations or answers to
these enduringly relevant subjects means that as an artist, an awareness of modern developments must be balanced by a dia-
logue with established traditions and past narratives, and yet not become nostalgic. Terry Eagleton, and Peter Fuller have both
argued for the importance of art to be able to tackle these big subjects. Whereas in the past, the artist or thinker had the shared
symbolic order provided by religion within which to refer and ground their work, the artist today must fi nd a way of surviving
the bewildering plurality and subjectivity that has become the norm, if the truth of what they have to say is to maintain any
force or credibility. My paintings begin as a dialogue with an image from art history – a painting by an Old Master that may
then be rearranged or used as a starting point from which to playfully but reverently deviate. My recent work is concerned with
the struggle to capture the relationship between the spiritual and the sensual, apparent opposites that are expressed in my
work through the confl ict of high narrative themes and sensuous painterly marks. The sheer enjoyment of making these marks
is not intended to be a Dionysian pursuit that drowns out the appearance of the real through a curtain of subjective, expres-
sionistic gestures, but rather an attempt to transform and redeem the form through the act of making. Fuller talks about how,
in the past the artist could ‘transform the physically perceived by the manifestation of allegoric devices like haloes and ‘human’
wings, whereas now this can only be realized through the transfi guration of formal means like drawing, colour and touch’. The
act of making becomes inseparable from the message that is being conveyed through the marks, one of the importance of
transformation and redemption. It is vital that pictures are not sedatives, but are capable of evoking sensation and awakening
feelings. I hope to frustrate the process of recognition through treading a path that plays between the borders of fi guration
and abstraction, and thus slow down the viewer by creating a space for sensation to emerge. I want my works to be sensuously
addictive, worldly and material, yet also to have a sense of contemplative silence akin to a religious icon.

Born in France, on May 31st 1975, of Spanish-Polish heritage, the artist grew up in Germany and currently lives in Budapest.
Seduced by the art of photography at the tender age of 16, the camera has been his friend, his informant, his life companion,
drawing him ever further along a path that seeks to capture and explore humanity though the shutter of a lens.
Luck has played its part: the artist has been inspired and supported by a number of experienced and talented photographers,
for example, his father, and the English-born French photographer David Hamilton, who took him under his wing and guided
him along his path of development.

PHILOSOPHYSomeone said we should or live our lives in the present. We are allowed to dream and throw a glance in the future, although
there is not much we can see or remember. We can even plan ahead, make projects but the results are uncer-
tain. That leaves us with the reality that we can only understand our lives looking at the past. Wouldn’t it be simpler if we
could remember the future? Of course there are all those psychological factors that might explain why we cannot … As I was
painting I fantasized about how much déjà vu was not already a lapse in our memory that allowed us to have a small preview
in a future situation…

ARTIST STATEMENTAfter trying several painting and photography techniques, i chose watercolour as the main media of expression of feelings,
sensations and thoughts.
My paintings always start with samll dots of water and colour and through the interaction of both the paintings are born. All
things lost and lock in my memory, feelings and thoughts, images, landscapes, places, people and situations, appear between
the fi elds of colour, the lines, the forms and become alive.
I found, working with watercolours, my inner self. Watercolours were chosen as my main technique cause, with them and samll
pieces of paper, I express myself totally. I no longer feel the pressure and the need, I felt before, of working on large canvas and
I feel free to do whatever it comes to my mind. So teh result of these last years of work is those paitings full of light, colour, life
and movement. I found myself as a painter.

Walter Girotto (Italy)EDUCATIONART COLLEGE – TURIN (ITALY)
ACCADEMY OF FINE ART – TURIN (ITALY)
BIOGRAPHYBorn under Taurus in a small northern Italian town called Rovigo and it was May 4th when his family moved to Turin (Italy) to
seek their fortune.
The only things he likes to remember about his town of origin are the branches of the weeping willow in the small garden, two
tin soldiers and a picture of a whale, drawn at nursery school when he was 4, under the incredulous gaze of a nun who was
unaware that her admiring glance was to decide his life as a painter.
In 1985, Girotto took part in his fi rst Art-Expo in New York and, following this auspicious debut in which he sold everything
within the fi rst twenty minutes of the opening of the exhibition, he spent the rest of the show apologising for having no other
works available.
Gratifi ed by that fl attering debut, Girotto took part with equal fortune in the next two New York Art-Expos until, in 1987, the
meeting with dealer Robert Bane led to the show at the Tamara Bane Gallery in Los Angeles in 1988 and to which, considering
its success, the ones in 1989 and 1990 were the natural sequel.
He faced than public opinion in a multitude of one-man exhibitions, enjoying widespread, sincere approval which often made
him, as he says “ …proud and confi dent I had given, at least to kindred spirits, the pleasure of seeing what my soul rejoiced at
imagining transformed into shapes and colours.”
Too many exhibitions, to be mentioned here but the following are among most signifi cant:
1980 VIOTTI GALLERY TURIN ITALY
1983 VIOTTI GALLERY TURIN ITALY

Girotto lives now in Villadose (ROVIGO). A small town 80 kilometer south of Venice (Italy).
STATEMENT“I don’t know what leads us to become an artist or a diplomat, a soldier or a scientist, but I know nature gives us all an equal
chance at the beginning. I’m convinced wealth and poverty present no hurdle as long as we always possess our own soul
wherever we are; and wherever we are, we can fi nd a way to express the creativity when urgently yearns to emerge.
It’s a question of inner attitude which goes beyond the weaknesses of vanity or the perversions of pride.
I’ve seen gifted artists living in abject poverty and in extreme luxury and I therefore feel I’m right in assuming that our fate
lies simply in nature; it follows hidden paths, whether they be hostile or rewarding, which we cannot know beforehand. I had
an inkling of this in the shade of my childhood willow. I received timorous confi rmation in the loneliness forced on me by my
introverted youth. It was not long before certainty arrived.”

STATEMENT“I consider the pictorial making to be a vehicle through which we can arrive to the knowledge of ourselves. For this reason, a
Painter must repossess of his own means through a deep comprehension of the used materials and their possible interactions.
The Pictorial Work already takes a salvifi c function for the operator when being fulfi lled. A necessary and unrestrainable need,
Painting requires respect and sacrifi ce. Its social value lies in the capacity to establish a direct and immediate communication
with the user. So, an exchange between individual and multitude, whereas the former’s duty is to stimulate, while the latter is
concerned with the even more important task of not to be deaf to the call of its own soul.”

Aurora Mazzoldi (Italy)“Soft light, subtle colors and sumptuous textures work together in the works of Aurora Mazzoldi to create a unique style
described by art critic Maurice Taplinger as “contemporary romanticism”.
Mazzoldi’s acrylics on canvas are imbued with profound emotion and point to the artist’s own deep relationship to her paint-
ings. Having lived in France, Austria and Italy, Mazzoldi is deeply informed by the art historical traditions that are present in her
everyday surroundings and looks to a wide range of infl uences from the Renaissance Masters of Italy to the Nineteenth Century
Romantics.
Although her use of dramatic mood is drawn directly from the Romantic tradition, Mazzoldi’s color pallet and soft modeling of
form is reminiscent of the Old Masters of the Renaissance. A spiritual thinker who buries herself in each work of art, Mazzoldi is
also deeply aff ected by the philosophical message of the Christian Esoteric teacher Daskalos”…

Mette Enøe (Denmark)Born in Denmark in 1959. She started her Glass Art passion in 2003.
She has developed her own new unique Glass Mosaic technique, where glass is placed on glass. This makes the art more trans-
parent and alive. When the intensity, colour and angel of the light source changes, – the visual eff ects from the art changes too.
The glass mosaic art can be placed on the wall – in the window, – inside, as well as outside.
Other materials is used in the mosaic art, such as steel, aluminium, silver, gold , pearls, stones …only imagination sets the
limits. Some glass pieces are made by fusing technique, for special unique eff ects.
The art expression is humoristic & symbolistic.
Today Mette is busy creating and selling artwork from her fi rm “Glaspatch” to private people and public institutions.
She collaborates with architects, goldsmiths, smiths, glaziers, painters and customers.

Luxembourg artist specializes in abstract paintings. “Although my creations are very
intuitive and based on great spontaneity, I never forget the basic principles of a good abstract
composition: right space division, unity, fi neness of form, and a certain degree of mystery. In many ways, my paintings can be
considered as inner landscapes.”
Rom Lammar’s love of travelling (he made a round-the-world trip in 1992-1994), combined to his interest in primitive cultures,
have led the artist on a quest for the unusual and an increasing use of non-traditional elements in his work, such as sand,
wood, rusted metal pieces, rope, and small stones.
The magic of his compositions is based on the way he uses depth, light, and shadow, to set the overall mood of the painting.
Lammar’s artworks have been shown in galleries in Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany and the United States
since 1987.
In 2006, Lammar receives the Gold Medal for his drawing “Lovers” and the Silver Medal for his abstract painting “Tanaka” from
the “Cercle des Beaux Arts” in Verviers, Belgium.
In 2007, the well-known american author and poet Sam Hamill choses the abstract painting “Strong Enough” by Rom Lammar
as cover picture for his newest release “Avocations”.

STATEMENTFor many years and after all my experiences, I devote myself to expressive and abstract painting.
I fi nd inspiration all around me, in the natural landscape, people’s behaviours and world events.
I like to experiment with diff erent styles of painting but at the moment my preferred medium is watercolour because of its
independence.
The colours on the paper blend and run together, creating wonderful and often unexpected compositions on their own.
I also think the most important thing about my art is drawing. The line is an integral part within the structure of making art. My
work always begins with line and continues, adding the texture of drawing to the painting.
I always charge my paintings with some energy and I try to present a visualisation of my soul, fl ow of energy and strong
emotions. I always tell a story but I still like to leave the door open for a viewer’s imagination, so he can enter the world in my
paintings and create his own stories.

ARTISTS´S STATEMENTIn my production, I devote myself to abstract painting. I think I have found a new original possibility to “combine” airbrush and
very suggestive expressive painting (gesture); acrylic medium. My work conception is named Mysterious Ways. I have named
it a never-ending and unlimited research having no limits, communication, and possibilities of discovering boundaries of these
two forms on a surface (canvas). In my pictures, I am looking for and discovering the possibility of perception, overlap through
the commonly seen, “something behind that”. My pictures represent a visualization of my soul, fl ow of energies, and strong
emotions exploding on the surface are contrasting with a dreamful and sensitive heart.

Viliam Sulik (Slovakia)Nitra, SK – based artist
ARTIST STATEMENTViliam Sulik (born in Surany, Slovakia, 1978) earned his MA in Art Teaching at the University of Constantine the Philosopher,
Department of Creative Arts and Art Education in Nitra, Slovakia (2005). He is an artist working from his studio in Nitra and also
an art teacher at the private school of Art ARS STUDIO Nitra, teaching Drawing, Painting and Sculpture.
He has worked in various mediums such as polystyrene, plastic, wood, metal and plaster in 3D. He is also known for installa-
tions, performances, happenings, videos and diff erent art projects involving youth and local artists in Nitra, Slovakia. Viliam
Sulik exhibited in both private and public galleries. His works are included in private collections in Slovakia and Germany.
Recently his strong focus has been on painting. As an admirer of German and Austrian expressionist and art brut, he is trying
to follow similar line exploring a world in which reality coexists with abstraction. By showing the interconnection of artistic
expression and gesture each of us may experience a common feeling and be enriched with another dimension.
In his recent series Viliam Sulik attempts to accent fi elds of everyday life. ´I’m concerned with how body, spirit and instincts
are assumed in contemporary culture and want to maintain greater dialogue around these systems. Central to my work is our
experience of the world, perception and understandings of it. Working with acrylic on canvas I borrow from my own life and
environment to build subtle narratives.

„CELEBRITY“This painting is featuring seemingly beautiful world of showbiz. Water-lilies symbolize a pseudo-space of luxury and plenti-
tude. But when we realize, that water-lilies grow in dirty and superfi cial waters, there comes to the turnabout. The head in the
upper part of canvas is being fed with material goods, which also work as pills healing amnesia. The disturbing memento of the
composition is the falling tendency of the head and therefore its progressive and inevitable destruction.

ARTIST STATEMENTI was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1974. I attended Art School for Fashion, Design and Photography in my hometown.
I showed interest in art as a child, but I became seriously engaged in 1989 when I started with children portraits.
Oil colours and canvas were an important discovery for me and with years I developed a technique of my own-relief on canvas
(three-dimensional). My paintings are diff erent styles and they express my life experience, feelings, emotions…Some are
fi ctional, too.
I believe the most important thing in life is to fulfi ll one’s expectations. One of mine is being a successful artist. I hope life will
be kind enough and give me that chance. It would be a nice and unique experience.
Every life is a journey which gives you an opportunity to learn your true self, so that you can grow spiritually and make progress
on to a higher level.

STATEMENTWhen I make art it’s relaxing me completely, it makes me feel the infi nity and eternity. The vision inside me breaks down the
natural forms of the subjects into geometric or fantasy shapes and creates a new kind of pictorial image. In contrast to tradi-
tional art I make visual depiction of objects such as thoughts and emotions. Some of my favourite fantasies appears in work
where the subject can portray from multiple perspectives, or the lines, colours, shapes, and forms replace the accurate visual
depiction and expressed in abstract form. I work mostly with water based colours and experimenting with new medias like
digital art.

Tora Munro (Romania)Born in Romania paints under artist name, letting the public to know her exclusively through her paintings, while keeping real
identity private.
Her fi gurative abstract , quantum esthetics , manifests as a revival and rebirth of spiritualistic , mediumistic ,asemic and art brut
which fi nally fi nd a new voice on a more liberated soil ,charged with the complexity of consciousness emerging this new era.
The paintings appear plastically charged with accents of raw energy, like magic recordings of emotions, a materialization of
visions of the soul channeled through brush and knife.
While for unaware eyes the subjects appear of a simple colorful simplicity , they work in a cryptic richness and complexity ,with
deeper meanings hidden inside , awaiting to be unveiled .
Texture ,fi gurative, themes, accents ,visual frequencies , placement of colour speaks in symbolic dimension in Tora’s paintings ,
calling for our quantum consciousness , an invitation for everyone to travel on new roads of awareness.
Since 2000 she has exhibited at art fairs and shows, both in Romania and abroad:
Some of her works are already held in private collections in Italy, US and Canada.

BIOGRAPHYBorn in Prosotsani at 1959 and lives in Kavala – Greece. He studied classic and modern art with no system and without bias. He
has not studied in any art school. Since 1979 he has organized 3 solo exhibitions and has taken part in several group exhibitions
in Greece and abroad. Most important: Galerie d’Art Francais – New Orleans, The Brick Lane Gallery London 2007, Prelude Art
Events London 2007, Cambridgeshire and Edinburgh Art Fair 2007, etc.
The artist explores the historical development of Western painting through the mechanism of the beauty. He engages in the
art of renaissance and baroque, that he often analyzes the structure of lines and colors – many times with the computer – and
turning back to the foreground as an abstract artwork subtracting the fi gurative content.
The new version of their deconstruction, raises issues of continuity of beauty, regardless of whether to fi gurative or abstract
artwork.

Naikos (Greece)Born in 1965 in Athens.
After fi nishing College, I had drawing lessons for 2 years and then for a large period I was painting with oils.
My occupation with technology forced my to use other ways to express my self, so I started using digital technology as my tools
and canvas to create paintings.
Since 1999 I live and work in Kefalonia Island, Western Greece.
STATEMENTFrom the Neanderthal man, who impressed his awe for the world by blowing color round his hand on cavern walls…
to the GRAFFITI on the walls of modern metropolises which colors the rage and the contempt of the 20th century teenagers…
The canvas and the tools of art were always an unconventional way to honor what made us stand on our two feet and look up
ahead…
My work is made exclusively with the use of digital technology, which has been accused that wrecks and manipulates the
human spirit…
Because the meaning of art is… emotion and the journey.

He was born on 12th October 1958 in Bad Saarow, a small spa town in the Brandenburg district of Germany to the south east
of Berlin. His fi rst drawings and watercolours date from the age of only 14 years old. In 1977 Andreas Zimmermann received his
only proper artistic training from the famous East German painter and graphic artist, Gerhard Goßmann.
It was also in 1977 that he learnt the trade of steel ship building, and until 1990 he was employed in various capacities as a
regular soldier, steel worker, youth worker, unionist, student, and stoker. He spent a long time searching for the defi nitive job
that would give his life an enduring sense of purpose.
In 1991 he qualifi ed as a media designer and this marked the start of his change of career towards art.
Andreas Zimmermann was employed in various advertising agencies from 1992. Since 1995 he has been a self-employed
graphic artist/designer in Frankfurt (Oder) and works to commission for companies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and
Poland.
In 2002 he started to concentrate more on painting. This went hand in hand with developing the idea of artistic independence.
This was when he made his fi rst concrete refl ections on complexism in painting. He was at odds with theoretical writings
about complexism in music, and in 1995 he developed his own guiding principles with the article “Negation der Harmonie”
(“Negation of Harmony”).
In 2005 Andreas Zimmermann rented the studio in the old town in Frankfurt (Oder) and began to give concrete form to his
concept of complexism in his pictures.
STATEMENT“The meaning of abstraction and reality, harmony and contradiction can only be perceived in the context of their interaction
with their opposites. I feel committed to this entity of contradiction, and make it visible in my pictures. Nevertheless, every-
thing is forever moving. Nothing is fi nal. Whatever comes will ultimately go again. What surrounds us is endlessly variable
and never remains unique. Structures go with and need each other in art, in exactly the same way as the laws of statics give a
building its shape. If this is made visible through painting, then complexism is achieved. I invite you to discover my art.“ Extract
from Negation of Harmony

STATEMENTSearching for inspiration in nature and the world around us the creative work of Sirje Protsin- Petersen is greatly autobiographical,
depicting a Woman who is searching for her place and fi nds it in constant changing. The human body and colour together visual-
ize the artist’s thought, perception and questions – unknowing whether answers to them will be found. Protsin- Petersen’s hand
is characterized by the principle of contrast – she opposes pasty and non-transparent surface of the painting to thin and glazy;
dramatic feelings conveyed with vigorous brush-strokes and bright colour to peaceful and harmonious colouring. Her paintings
are constructed by a fi nding a poetic quality in structure. There are realistic and abstract elements, empty space and process itself.
”At times some recognizably erotic motifs can be spotted fl ashing through the abstract streaks of her pictures. She combines a
dynamic expressive painting swing with a naughty play of hide-and-seek in her pictures. Her self-confi dent and relaxed brush
strokes reveal a highly experienced artist rooted in the historical traditions of the Pallas school of painting. Hence the unerring
gradations of chiaroscuro aff ects running like scales from one end to other.” Johannes Saar, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Estonia

STATEMENT:“As long as I can remember, I see life as a theatre, in which humans play a role for which they usually do not have chosen
themselves.
I let myself in my work be guided by themes that aff ect me personally. My performances show no rosy picture of human
existence. Figures are struggling with loss, despair and fear. My paintings show a theatrical world where meetings take place
between fi gures that seemingly have nothing to do with each other, but necessarily perform together in a sort of ritual. I do
not so much believe in a beautiful world. The world is ruthless for idealists. It is every human for himself or herself and God
for us all. To survive in this world, humans apparently have no other choice but to adapt and deny and escape from their own
personality.
Striking in my paintings is the place of underprivileged and oppressed personages, individuals who have little to choose and
for people who knowingly choose for their ideals. I try to give place to inner dualism and the sneaking loneliness of the helpless
human being.

Born 1962 in Lithuania. After Klaipeda polytechnic school and soviet army about 16 years worked stone carver with sculptors
and after back injury all free time devote for painting in oils.
I am self-taught painter and for me, painting was a natural state, something I did not really choose but which came automati-
cally because, that was what I needed. You can’t learn it; it’s not a craft you need a diploma for. I believe art are subconscious
expressions of self – is the vehicle for bringing the subconscious to a conscious parallel. Painting is always for me about explor-
ing the depths of my own imagination. Painting is irresistible if you can see clearly, that it’s paint what you are looking to and at
the same time your eye shows you, as through a window, another world. My work is a result of a fragmented view of the world,
which gives it a surreal quality – here and beyond – present and past.
I work with memory, thought, photographs, and dreams. This is why it is diffi cult to place a fi ctional or non-fi ctional label on
the elements that become parts of my paintings.
The result is a new world that could only manifest itself physically as a piece of art. A similar visual could, however, exist in
one’s mind as a memory, a dream or a thought.

“We are drawn into a reality of the mind playing with known and unknown images; cultural and spiritual continuity with
disturbing distortions.” Don Noyes-More, Editor
Quote by Angela di Bello ( New York)
The abstract acrylic on canvas paintings exhibit strength in compositional aesthetics and rigorous color to convey mood and
emotion. The expressive style reveals a vibrant patchwork of color within a complex labyrinth of abstraction. Resolute in style,
the work achieves poignancy through a unique perspective that resonates throughout the cohesive presentation.

Risto Kajo (Finland)was born in 1975. He is working in Turku, Finland. His emotionally loaded impressionistic paintings have been displayed in
Finland, Sweden and Russia.
Kajo was a very committed fundamentalist Christian for ten years. On display in the Opera Gallery, the painting series depicts
his Christian friends who were also struggling with unrealistic biblical norms and a strict behaviour code. After Kajo had made
those paintings, his faith on Jesus shipwrecked totally. His story was told by a Finnish newspaper and a TV program.

was born in the archipelago of southern Finland.
The artist attended painting classes in The Art School Gerlesborg in Sweden in the 80’s but is mainly self taught.
Early in his childhood he spent a lot of time drawing and painting – dreamt of becoming an artist. Another dream was to get to
know cultures in distant parts of the world.
He trekked in the Himalaya and got closer contact to the mountain people of Nepal.
Later he went to learn Spanish in Guatemala, where he started to draw the Maya Indians. Faces of native people have since then
caught his interest.
The artist got fascinated by the Latin world, resulting in several visits to Peru, Chile and Ecuador.
Back in the studio the creation process starts, using sketches, photos and videos. He mainly paints on wood, thin layers in
acrylics, which allows the veins of the wood to show through the paint. Persons he has met become like characters in a fi lm
or theatre – they become actors in the artist’s fantasy world. It’s a world of dreams and hopes – a dream of fi nding peace and
inner balance.
In the most recent works you can sense a co-existence between man and nature, a connection to nature and to nature’s power.

BIOGRAPHYBorn in South America, from Indonesian lineage, raised in Germany, Belgium, Rotterdam and The Hague, and now living and
working in Wassenaar in The Netherlands. I come from an artistic family, began drawing at the age of fi ve, and by twelve I
was already under the spell of Johannes Vermeer, Van Gogh and Rembrandt. In the late 70s I attended the Academy of Art
in the Hague. I was taught 17th century techniques, charcoal and pastel drawing of portraits and nudes and the principles of
painting abstract by divers great Dutch painters. Next came sculpture, inspired by my friend and famous sculptor Kees Verkade
(Monaco). I mostly work in acrylic and oil paint. Exhibitions in Holland (galleries, international companies f.e. Siemens, Canon,
ESTEC Aerospace, Int. Hotels, restaurants, governmental Institutions) and abroad. A percentage of all purchased works is always
donated in a good cause.
LIFE STORYAlthough I made the early decision to become an artist, I was forced to work to support my family at the age of 17. Among art
studies, I studied Management, Marketing and Psychology after working hours. I worked for Government and many interna-
tional companies and the last 6 years as a recruiter in the executive search. I made a big leap into painting as my profession,
among writing poetry as my greatest passion, in 1996.
As co-founder of Lions Int. Den Haag Universal, I am actively involved in organising fundraising events and projects for needy
children in the Netherlands and abroad and being founder and board member of a Guatemala Foundation I initiate charity
events.
PHILOSOPHYMy work refl ects my inner feelings and is inspired by the abundant colours of other cultures seen in my extensive travels. Con-
stantly balancing fi gurative with abstract my paintings feature women with al her dark sides and human characters, humour
and satire embedded, birds, fi shes and (wild) animals as metaphor. The radiance is often spiritual, surrealistic, magical and very
expressive.
Everyone has “a child within” and by expressing these feelings I can communicate more easily through my art. I fi nd detail
unimportant and express myself with bold statements, use of primary vibrantly colours and paint rhythms. My leading thought
is that of growth, maturity and decay. It sometimes takes courage to let go of the usual techniques and open your eyes to see
things diff erently.
Over the years I have developed diff erent styles and I do not feel bound by any rules. Painting for me creates happiness and I
hope I can pass on these positive feelings to others. My paintings are just like my life: a continuous search for alignment and
harmony between people and elements, body and soul.
Painting for me is an expression, not of reality, but of a personal experience.

Vivien Kabar (Hungary)A writer, poet, and painter. She was born in 1981 aug. 28 in Debrecen from a Hungarian mother, and an Arab father. Her unique
talents were shown in a very early age, she started drawing, and painting as a small child, and writes poetry since she is 12.
She had no formal studies in either. She is a true autodidact. While she had help from her mentors such as Szepes Maria world
renown writer, Dr. Ilia de Riska painter and theatrical set designer, and Peter Martin Szipal, a photographer from Hollywood, she
developed her own unique style, and form.
As soon as she turned 18, she moved to Germany , spent fi ve years traveling, learning German language, gaining knowledge,
and experiences. Germany was the place of her fi rst exhibition as a painter. At the age of 22, she came home to Hungary to
introduce herself as a poet, writer and painter to her audience.
Sors-ok, Fate’s couses was introduced in 2007 Apr. 13 at the International Literary Festival at the Congressional Center. This year
also in 2007 oct. 19th she had an exhibition of the TAROT paintings at the Art Szem contemporary gallery.
She is 26 now, and being creative as ever, getting ready for a new book, a new exhibition, here and abroad. At present, she also
works as a costume and set designer for a play.
Here is a quote from my spiritual master Francis Bacon, the great contemporary painter:
“You see, painting has now become, or all art has now become completely a game, by which man distracts himself. What is
fascinating actually is, that it’s going to become much more diffi cult for the artist, because he must really deepen the game to
become any good at all.”

PHILOSOPHYWhat is the objective value of a piece of art? I don’t know… and I doubt you know either. All I know is that art is an important
part of our lives… and I’m happy that I enjoy it. Moreover, I am glad I appreciate the act of conjuring artistic creations. There
is no broad value to any specifi c piece of artwork in this world, in my opinion… all art has local and temporal value, though
some are fortunate to outlive others. But pieces that evoke wonder and appreciation and awe are defi nitely of utmost emo-
tional value to anyone with an open mind or heart.

I was born on the 1st of November 1977 in Sofi a, Bulgaria and was brought up in an artistic environment being the grandson
of a famous Bulgarian painter of the same name. This direct contact with art from a very early age probably predestined my
life-involvement with painting. The creative strain has never left me and I have dedicated myself to painting and the strenuous
paths of the artistic quest. Although mural painting is a fi eld in which I have been working for some time, especially iconic
murals, I have simultaneously produced a number of landscapes, portraits and still-life paintings which I was invited to exhibit
at the Lukoil private gallery in Sofi a in December 2005. At present I am also working in the interior design fi eld, where I have
been experimenting with combinations of materials, textures and nuances, integrating natural motifs into the often monolithic
corpus of the home and work-place.

Belgian artist who draw and paint from her early ages. After her accounting studies, she maried and moved to Congo where
she lived during 30 years. There she opened a ceramic and paint workshop. She worked on high temperature enamel and
watercolors “wet on wet”. Through her ceramic and watercolors, which are all unique pieces, Mireille Dubois-Vanhove unveil
the idyllic Africa scenary, showing the extrem poverty of those forgotten people, the look of children deprived from all and
the courage of african women. Her work is heartbreaking and naturally marks the viewer. The whole work of Mireille Dubois-
Vanhove convey an artistic signature that is easily identifi able with harmonizing shades of the african continent. Her approach
is human. She touch hearts. Some say she translates with a lot of tender, children and adult who are overtaken by their own
distress, others claims that her work is brilliant, rendered by few means, etc. All viewers who have been in contact with one
of the works of Mireille Dubois-Vanhove have been marked as have been “Le Cri” from Munch. It’s true that no body can stay
insensitive facing the message carried through her work. We can feel the feeling’s spirit and the experience richness from
a voice choked or a laugh. The composition is tight, centered on a unique subject, straightforward. The watercolor choice is
appropriate, with the immaculate bottom. We fi nd subtlety, sensitivity from the african atmosphere in all her work. A poetic
realism well rendered in light. Besides watercolor, Mireille Dubois-Vanhove also carves small fi gures perched on top of specially
enameled plates. Back in Belgium, she created her workshop at Nimy and regularly exhibits in the region. Today, she lives and
works in Belgium.

The opera emphasizes individual suff ering and was written as a response to the rise of fascism.
The subject is an individual aviator, an Argentine long-distance mail carrier, during the early days of fl ying. He is caught in a
storm, with no way to land; and the drama occurs both within his family, anxious for his safe return, and among his employers,
anxious both for his safe return and the success of their enterprise.
The fi rst Hungarian television opera was fi lmed 1963 at the Budaörs Airport, under the direction of Miklós Szinetár.
Some of the legendary Hungarian actors like Erzsébet Házy, Róbert Ilosfalvy and József Simándi have been participated in the
casting.
As a young boy I have attended personally the shooting of the fi lm, that was the time when I began to be acquainted with the
airplanes and the fl ying.
