KEYNOTE SPEAKER

2009 ANPI Annual Meeting • Scottsdale, AZ

Robyn BenincasaRobyn Benincasa, captain of Team Merrell/Wigwam Adventure Racing, will share her expertise of teamwork with attendees at the 2009 ANPI Annual Meeting.

Attendees at this year’s annual meeting will learn essential elements of human synergy from a world champion, tri-athlete, adventure racer, firefighter and experienced team player.

“After years of study in what it takes a team to rise from ‘good’ to ‘world class’,” states Robyn in the April 2007 issue of Competitor Magazine, “I’ve come to the conclusion that the biggest factors are the attitudes and actions of the individual teammates. In the races my team and I have won, we were not the strongest nor the fastest, but we were able to create a ‘human synergy’ that made the TEAM stronger than the collective training and experience of individual members.”

Benincasa caught the bug for triathlons after competing at the state and national level in gymnastics, diving and cross country. She went on to complete nine Ironman races, with two podium finishes in her age group in Kona, Hawaii. By 1995 she was tired of the triathlon so she embarked on a mission to live her dreams of becoming an adventure racer and firefighter.

In the past 13 years, she has completed over 36 “expedition length” adventure races. In these races teammates quest for mental and physical endurance as a team as they trek over 100 miles via running, paddling, biking and climbing on a 7 to 10 day non-stop expedition. Benincasa has earned World Champion honors in both the Eco-Challenge and the Raid Gauloises. Robyn organized some

of the best racers on earth in 2004 to form Team Merrell/Wigwam, ranked among the top three teams in the world.

In 2008 Benincasa decided to bring the teamwork lessons of Adventure Racing to the corporate world by launching World Class Teams, a corporate team building company. In the past 7 years, her “Extreme Teams” keynotes have been embraced by Starbucks, Boeing, Amgen, Tony Robbins, Coldwell Banker, Schering Plough, Earthlink, Nestle, The Four Seasons Resorts, Honda and the US Cycling team, just to name a few.

When she is not out playing all over the world with her teammates or creating World Class Teams for Fortune 500 companies, Robyn is at her “real” job as a full time Firefighter for the City of San Diego. In 2006 she became a member of the only all-female fire crew in the US, Engine 22 in Point Loma. In January 2006 they were featured in the New York Times and on Good Morning America, and the media whirlwind hasn’t stopped since!
