1 PRESSURE SAFETY VALVE (PSV)
1.1 JOB SAFETY PLAN
1 ENSURE the proper work permit has been issued, with supporting certificates as required
2 ENSURE awareness of any other work being carried out in the same area
3 ENSURE all required energy isolations have been completed as per HES procedures and as per the
Permit to Work.
4 ENSURE correct PPE is available, functional and used properly. Know the limitations of your PPE
5 ENSURE correct fire & safety equipment is on site, (I.E. fire extinguisher, fire blanket etc …)
6 CONDUCT a job specific Tool Box talk prior to commencing the work and record attendees.
7 ENSURE work area is kept clean / tidy during the work
8 ENSURE work area is clean / tidy on completion of work
9 ENSURE all un-necessary personnel are clear of area before de-isolation/start-up.
10 CHANGES in the work place/work scope or evacuation may require repeat gas tests or permit re-issue
11 CONTACT HES staff with any questions regarding any safety aspects of the work or permit
12 ENSURE awareness of Evacuation Procedures, Emergency Stop Buttons and Muster Points
13 ENSURE all work permits and associated documents are closed on completion of the work
14 ENSURE all elements of H2S safety procedures are implemented for work on this equipment to include
awareness training, use of personal H2S monitors and escape BA sets. Pre-job planning must review
wind direction and maintenance of clear emergency escape routes.
1.2 THIS JOB PLAN LISTS THE STEPS FOR 1 YEARLY INTERVAL
CALIBRATION TESTS ON A PRESSURE SAFETY VALVE (PSV).
Preamble: Pressure Safety Valves are removed from site to the maintenance workshop for calibration. For the
duration of the calibration test the vessel is without normal PSV protection.

Procedure steps
STEP ACTION COMMENT
1 OPEN permit to work
2 VERIFY the PSV tag number matches that on the PM document
3 INSPECT the PSV in situ for leaks and corrosion
4 ISOLATE , LOCK, TAG AND TRY the upstream hand isolation
valve
Isolations may be carried out by Production staff
5 ISOLATE, LOCK, TAG AND TRY the downstream hand
isolation valve
Some PSVs vent to atmosphere without D/S isolation
6 OPEN the downstream vent valve where applicable This relieves trapped pressure in the downstream pipe
7 OPEN the upstream vent valve This relieves trapped pressure in the upstream pipe
8 REMOVE the PSV to the workshop
9 PROTECT the open ends of the PSV pipe connections from debris A piece of rag tied over the open end suffices
10 CALIBRATE the PSV in accordance with the relief pressure The relief pressure depends upon the installation
11 CLEAN the pipe connections for the PSV
12 RE-INSTAL the PSV
13 CLOSE the downstream vent valve where applicable
14 CLOSE the upstream vent valve
15 UNLOCK, OPEN and REMOVE the TAG from the downstream
hand isolation valve where applicable
De-isolations may be carried out by Production staff
16 UNLOCK, OPEN and REMOVE the TAG from the upstream
hand isolation valve
17 INSPECT the PSV for leaks
18 CLOSE permit to work
19 RECORD all data & sign off PSV Inspection Report PSV Inspection Report is attached as page 2 of 2
