Inthe 2019 campaign, the leaders of the government preempteda fact-based debate on its performance of five years byblocking or contaminating official data on job generation andother parameters, and successfully pushed electioneering intoa fact-free zone filled with emotive and divisive issues.

Final words The outcome on Thursday remains a suspense, but the

incoming Prime Minister, whoever that will be, must take theinitiative to rally all Indians around a truly inclusive and secularnational agenda as soon he or she takes over.
