Jindalee State School has as its vision ‘Creating a Clever Future Today’. This is supported by our school improvement plan which establishes the values, principles and actions to achieve this vision. Our four key initiatives are: Implementing the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework to improve student learning Improve every student’s educational outcomes and achievements through high quality teaching practices. Effectively manage and develop all school resources with a focus on school improvement. Develop positive and productive students, staff, parents and community partnerships. We believe to do this we must: Ensure every child is learning every day Demonstrate and require punctuality Have zero Interruptions to quarantined teaching time Implement focussed teaching and learning strategies. Implement consistent programs in behaviour support. Have the Jindalee Way philosophy at the centre of what we do. One of the ways in which we are able to know that what we are doing is working effectively is to ask parents, students and staff for their feedback. During the next two weeks, randomly selected members of our school community will be asked to participate in an annual school opinion questionnaire. Sixty students each from year six and seven will be chosen to participate in an online feedback session, all staff will participate in an online session and forty of our parents will be provided with a copy of the survey questionnaire to complete and return to the school in a sealed envelope. The feedback collection begins on 22 July and continues for two weeks. The information gathered will be centrally collated by an independent agency who will then return the information to our school in data form. We will use this information to assess the effectiveness of our programs and policies and incorporate the recommendations into our school improvement plan for 2014. Your help in this information gathering is greatly appreciated and your honest and constructive feedback will help to ensure our school is able to create a clever future for every member of our school community today. Should you have any questions about the annual survey please contact the school office. Parents’ and Citizens’ Association With this newsletter, you will receive a copy of a letter from the P&C requesting your assistance with their fundraising through the parent contribution scheme. Over the past nine years while I have been at the school, the P&C has provided financial support well in excess of two million dollars to support our school, staff and students deliver the best learning opportunities and facilities. The reputation of our school is to a large extent enhanced by the support of our community through the P&C association. While the government provides the necessary funds to finance the teaching and learning operations, it is the extras that make the difference between a good education and a great education. These extras include additional resourcing and facilities, addition service like outside school hours care and sports and cultural facilities. Air-conditioning in classrooms is another advantage the P&C has provided. For as little as $2.00 a week, parents can contribute to providing the P&C the funds needed to keep this work ongoing. If each family gave 2.00 each week for the school year then these funds were applied to a project that attracted government subsidy, we could provide improvements in excess of $150 000. I encourage you to support the association and ultimately your children enjoy a clever future today. Jindalee State School has as its vision ‘Creating a Clever Future Today’. This is supported by our school improvement plan which establishes the values, principles and actions to achieve this vision. Our four key initiatives

are:

• Implementing the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework to improve student learning

• Improve every student’s educational outcomes and achievements through high quality teaching practices.

• Effectively manage and develop all school resources with a focus on school improvement.

• Develop positive and productive students, staff, parents and community partnerships.

We believe to do this we must:

• Ensure every child is learning every day • Demonstrate and require punctuality • Have zero Interruptions to quarantined teaching time • Implement focussed teaching and learning strategies. • Implement consistent programs in behaviour support. • Have the Jindalee Way philosophy at the centre of what

we do. One of the ways in which we are able to know that what we are doing is working effectively is to ask parents, students and staff for their feedback. During the next two

weeks, randomly selected members of our school community will be asked to participate in an annual school opinion questionnaire.

Sixty students each from year six and seven will be chosen to participate in an online feedback session, all

staff will participate in an online session and forty of our parents will be provided with a copy of the survey questionnaire to complete and return to the school in a sealed envelope. The feedback collection begins on 22 July and continues

for two weeks. The information gathered will be centrally collated by an independent agency who will then return the information to our school in data form. We will use this information to assess the effectiveness of our programs and policies and incorporate the recommendations into our school improvement plan for 2014. Your help in this information gathering is greatly

appreciated and your honest and constructive feedback will help to ensure our school is able to create a clever future for every member of our school community today.

P&C association.

While the government provides the necessary funds to finance the teaching and learning operations, it is the extras that make the difference between a good education and a great education. These extras include additional resourcing and facilities, addition service like outside school hours care and sports and cultural

facilities. Air-conditioning in classrooms is another advantage the P&C has provided.

Jasmin McCormack, Ruby Kemp-Fares and Georgia Ferguson all made cookies to sell at the Bead to Bead Markets at Middle Park State School. The girls held their own stall at the markets. The also walked around to other stalls to sell their cookies. They raised $133 that they

have sent to Australia Zoo to help save the tigers.

Walk to School - this Thursday and every Thursday Students are invited to walk to school with our local adopt-a-cop and members of the AST committee. Students will be walking along Burrendah Road from opposite the Mankinna Street intersection. A sign will mark the drop-off point. Parents can drop their children here every Thursday between 8:15am and 8:30am and

collect them in the afternoon between 3:20pm and 3:30pm. In the afternoon, students will meet in front of the tuckshop to walk back to the pick-up area. Soon we will have permanent posters in the school grounds also showing other drop and walk locations.

Message from the Chaplain Welcome back to the start of another term here at Jindalee State School. I hope you all had a very enjoyable and relaxing couple of

weeks! The Queensland Father of the Year is coming up. This award is designed to honour and celebrate the importance of fathers and father-figures throughout our state and its local communities. So if you think your Dad, or a Dad you might know, would be in the running for the award, visit

http://qldfatheroftheyear.org.au/ and fill out a nomination form. Hurry though as nominations close on 15 July! A very special event is coming up, which I know you will love. I will be holding a ‘Dinner With The Chaplain’ night at Jindalee McDonalds! On Monday 22 July, come and

share dinner with me in what will be a fun and relaxed night. McDonalds are partnering with me, donating 20% of all front counter profits during the night towards Chaplaincy here at Jindalee State School. Look at page 5 for more information. Have a fantastic week and remember to stay safe! Joshua Green

Queensland Rugby League Trials Congratulations to Ezraa Coulston who competed in the Queensland Rugby League trials in Hervey Bay during the last week of Term 2. Ezraa has been selected in the Queensland team and will travel to Perth on 10 August to

compete in the Australian trials. Well done Ezraa, great effort!

From the P&C President Welcome back to Term 3. The P&C has been busy over the holidays, this time refitting the Uniform shop, and having had a sneak peek it looks wonderful. This will provide a more enjoyable experience for parents and children in what is for some, their first meaningful interaction with the school community. We've attached some photos of the before and after but when you get a

chance, drop in and see for yourself. Big thanks to Helen, our Uniform shop co-ordinator for driving this and running this vital service for the community. A reminder that the next P&C meeting is on this coming Monday 15 July at 7pm in the Staffroom. This is a great chance to interact with the school and the admin team as

we all work together to make your children’s experience at Jindalee State School more enjoyable. Ben Marczyk
