The Wedding Feast at Cana
January 20, 2019
Dear Parishioners and Friends:
His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you” [John 2:1-11]
And just so easily does Jesus work his first miracle there at the wedding feast in Cana. An obedient son begins his public ministry at the bidding of his mom. Even though it was NOT what he had in mind, he recognizes her authority over him and decides that this is a good idea, in order to manifest God’s over-abundant presence in the covenant-making moment of the marriage feast.
Put simply, can we not get the same idea today with Bishop Hartmayer putting the question to us, that we might help supply the “wine” for the feast of the various ministries of the Diocese of Savannah? This money paid for 3 of our young people to get scholarships to go to Chicago last summer for special youth training in leadership. This wine helped our own Food Pantry to care for the needs of the hungry right here in Waycross. This money paid the bills for our 2 seminarians whom we support with our tithes once a month. This money will pay for our Hispanic Minister to go on a special retreat in a couple of weeks. So DO WHAT HE TELLS YOU, and participate ac-tively in the ministries of the diocese of Savannah by sincerely assisting this effort. Thank you!

La Fiesta de Bodas de Cana

Queridos Parroquianos y Amigos:
Su madre dijo a los sirvientes, “Hagan lo que él les diga.” [Juan 2:1-11]
Y así de fácil Jesús hace su primer milagro allí en la fiesta de la boda de Cana. Un hijo obediente comienza su ministerio publico por la insistencia de su madre. Aun cuando NO ERA lo que el tenía en su mente, el reconoce la autoridad de ella sobre él y decide que es una buena idea, para así manifestar la presencia sobreabundante de Dios en la fiesta de matrimonio del compromiso que se está llevando a cabo.
Poniéndolo simplemente, ¿no Podemos ver la misma idea en la pregunta que el Obispo Hartmayer nos está haciendo hoy? ¿Podemos ayudar a proporcionar el “vino” para la fiesta de los varios ministerios de Savannah? Este dinero pagó por los 3 jóvenes que recibieron becas para ir a Chicago el Verano pasado para un entrenamiento de juventud especial en liderazgo. Este vino ayudo a nuestro propia Despensa a ayudar a los necesitados con hambre aquí mismo en Waycross. This Weekend we will welcome Fr. Tom Healy, a dear friend to many and a former pastor. He will be with us for four days. We also welcome our bishop [via the technology of the DVDs] who will speak to us about the BAA.
The BAA Kickoff is this weekend! The Bishop will give a pep talk on what is happening in the Diocese of Savannah and thank us for how we contributed to the larger church, to the point last year that we hit 104% of our target. Our 2019 target is $22,134. If we work together and each do our part, I be-lieve that we will be able to meet our new target for 2019.

Next week, our parish will take up the 134th
annu-al National Black and Indian Mission Collection. Our support of this collection helps build the Church in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native communities from coast to coast. Schools, parish religious education programs, and diocesan ministries depend on your generosity to help them spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Living the Eucharist: Our parish coordinating team for Living the Eucharist would like you to consider par-ticipating in this faith formation program during the 6 weeks of Lent. We are ordering materials now so that we can form small groups and share the pilgrimage of Lent as a time to deepen our faith especially in regards to the readings of Lent and the depths of the Holy Eu-charist that we hope to discover and savor together. House Blessings: This time of year is when many people enjoy rededicating their homes and family life to God with a House-Blessing, often dur-ing January. If Fr. Bob cannot arrange a time when he can come to your house for the blessing, he has written several rituals that you can use to do the blessing as a family, as a domestic church. Barba-ra has copies to give you.

Es una Conferencia por la Web en ambos inglés o español (a diferentes horas) este entrenamiento será interactivo y tiene un número limitado de sitios disponibles. Es presentado por el P Fr. Frank DeSanio en Washington, DC y pagado por el P. Bob y por la Diócesis.
El entrenamiento en Inglés será en 6 sesiones consecutivas los martes en la noche de 7:00-8:15 PM: 15 de enero- Actitudes hacia la Evangelización; enero 22 – Descubriendo el Gozo del Encuentro con Cristo; enero 29 – Kerigma, Descubriendo y Articulando las Buenas Nuevas; febrero 5- Creando Parroquias Misioneras; febrero 12, - Grupos de Evangelización: El “Motor” de la Evangelización de la Parroquia; febrero 19- Grupos de Evangelización: “Comenzando.” Por favor contacte a Fran McElroy [267-496-1965] antes del lunes, 14 de enero, para reclamar su asiento para el entrenamiento.

Good News! Believe it, the Gospel IS just that … GOOD! and this is a powerful chance for you to really experience it. This week you may want to grab hold of this marvelous oppor-tunity to experience training in the meaning of Evangelization in our Catholic tradition. It starts THIS WEEK! Lectors, Eucha-ristic Ministers, Catechists, Music Ministry folks, Loaves and Fishes Team, RCIA Team members and those who are on Parish Council and Finance Council, all are eligible for this op-portunity for the Training. Others who may be interested are invited to inquire and if there are still open seats they may be invited. Because of the nearness of this event, seats are avail-able only on the basis of "first come first served.”
Because of a previously planned trip – my Pilgrimage with the Martyrs of Central America – I will miss the first ses-sions of the Training. But I didn’t want you to miss out. So see if this is something that your heart yearns for. And "be the change you want to see in the world” and in the church for this new year of grace!

Rare Evangelization Training Opportunity: Our parish has been asked by the diocese to partake in an unusual training for Leaders in Evangelization in our parishes. It is a Web Tele-conference in both English and Spanish (at different times). This training will be interactive with only limited number of seats available. It is presented by Fr. Frank DeSanio in Wash-ington, DC and paid for already by Fr. Bob and the Diocese.
The training in English will be in 6 sessions on consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:15 PM: Jan 22 – Discovering the Joy of Encountering Christ; Jan 29 – Kerygma, Discovering and Articulating Good News; February 5 – Creating Missionary Parishes; February 12 – Evangelization Teams: The “Engine” of Parish Evangelization; February 19 – Evangelization Teams: Getting Started. Training in Spanish will follow the same session theme-plan but will have the first 3 sessions together on the morning of Saturday, January 19 from 8:30 am until noon. The second 3 sessions will also be on a Saturday, February 23, from 8:30 am until noon. Because a luncheon will be prepared for a one-hour discussion and conclusions until 1 PM, we need to know very soon who is interested in attending to claim their seat. Our Adopted Babies Spiritual Adoption Program
Month 5
Keep praying for me! Your spiritually adopted baby
weighs over one pound now, and her mother can feel
her movements. Before this time, she was too small for
her to feel. Although she swam with ease in her watery
world, she needed to be big and strong enough to kick
hard against the outside wall and dent it—the inside
wall of the uterus has little feeling. We are mid-way
through the pregnancy now. Your prayers have helped
your baby’s mother continue with her pregnancy and
seek the help she needs.
Satilla Advocacy Services has helped CCW find a simi-
lar baby’s mother in need. We intend to celebrate her
baby’s “Birthdate” with a baby shower to be held in the
Parish Social Hall on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 6:30
PM. We know that it is a baby boy. Please keep them in
your prayers! CCW will provide a full dinner that evening.
Please come out, and join us to celebrate this baby’s life.
CCW’ s Nursing Home project continues. We will be
making another delivery to the 64 residents again in the
Spring so we are still accepting items.
CCW is always looking for new members, consider join-
ing us, we would love to have you.
