Existing ProductI think that these magazine covers are similar to my idea because they are photography magazines with a photography title. These images on the front cover have obviously been taken outside from an upfront close up angle. They all have a repetition of some sort of rock/mountain as the background cover, they all have a two toned sky, and similar fonts and colours. There isn't much writing on any of these they all use little subheadings and short sentences in blocks on the covers the bar code is also in the same place. This makes the audience want to buy this product because with it all been continues there going to think its good because its all related to the same topic and if they like that certain topic they are going to buy it. The target audience also will like photography if there buying this so to see less text on the front page with a big picture looks good to that audience.

Existing Product

These double page spreads are similar to my idea because they both include photographs and text to describe that image. One of them has an advert in to advertise things and win things where as one is just about photography but there still both similar ideas that I have. There are more pictures than text they have used landscape pictures. In the top double page spread the layout is very formal the pages are almost identical the text has been put into 2 long paragraphs with 2 pictures near each text the target audience for that double page spread would be adults who have an interest in photography, its not going to appeal to children because it looks formal and they wouldn’t read all that text. The bottom one looks less formal but still would appeal to older people like adults because it does have quite a bit of text that is in columns. Older people often look in magazines also for advertisements.

These contents pages are similar to my idea because they include pictures . The top one is more like what I’m thinking its more like my idea because its on one page instead of a double page, the text is in columns with the picture in the right hand corner towards the middle of the page however the bottom double page spread ahs given me ideas also, I like the pattern down both the left and right hand side I don’t however like how the text has been set out onto two pages it looks tacky I wouldn’t have done it like that, I do like the fact that have used pictures as well as just text but I don’t like the layout. In the top one I also like the review bit at the bottom to give you an idea what's on a page I think that makes the viewers want to read and buy this because its formal and set out in a neat manner the target audience for that contents page would be older teens and adults where as the bottom contents page would be younger teens you can see this by looking at the layout.

Existing ProductThese magazine covers are similar to my idea for my product because they all include pictures with text. These magazine covers all include a picture of a landscape which is what I have in mind for my magazine front page background cover. All of these front covers also include a competition or some sort of way to win something, this would be a feature I defiantly want on my magazine cover, by doing that it makes the buyers want to buy it because they can win something for free. These magazine covers also make people want to buy it by having little bits on front cover that are in the inside pages it makes them want to read more, it makes them want to read into the magazine and in order to do that they have to buy it.

Research Evaluation

Page 25: 2. research

Research Evaluation• Give an overview of how you conducted your research. Discuss the strengths

and weaknesses of each method – Product Research

• I went onto the internet and searched up existing products, this was fairly easy to do, I managed to get a range of different ideas from doing this, a weakness would have been finding the right things to look at for inspiration.

• I then did some experiments of my own I found this slightly difficult because I didn’t want to put down to many ideas that gave away my final idea, however a strength was been able to do research that has made me to get ideas for my final product.

– Questionnaires• I went onto survey monkey to create a questionnaire I found this fairly easy as I had time to practice how to use

survey monkey without having to rush. • Posted my survey on Facebook by a link so people could answer it for me, I found this challenging because not a

lot of people would answer it so I was having to beg.• I then gathered up the results in order to find out what sort of product people want to see.

• Interviews• I asked to people to answer the questions to my interview, these 2 people both answered in a very

respectful manner and helped me to gain feedback.• With the answers I got from these to people I was then able to evaluate it and decide in more detail

about my final product.

Page 26: 2. research

Research Evaluation– What sort of a response did you get?The responses I got from my survey was mostly answered by people aged 17-19 the responses I got were most people like photos taken outside the majority of the people who answered my survey were females. Also I have found out my audience hate adverts within a magazine, however they do like competitions in them if its to win something good for example money, cameras, and iPads ect. I got positive responses which is good because it really helps me with my final product.

– How did you distribute your survey? Give an advantage and a disadvantageI created my survey online on survey monkey I then distributed it through a link that I posted online for people to go onto and fill it in for me.The advantages I got were I found out what the public would like to see as a final piece which is a photography magazine. The disadvantages are that not everyone likes the same things so I am going to have to be creative and put everyone's ideas together.
