What Is Heaven Like?

• Jesus is coming again (2 Pet. 3:10).• The dead will be raised (John 5:28-29).• All will be changed (1 Cor. 15:50-53).• All will be judged (2 Cor. 5:10)– Actions, words, and even thoughts

• But after judgment…–Where will we spend eternity?–What will it be like?

I. Figurative Language• Uses imagery to convey a message– Song of Solomon 5:9-16• Uses precious things to paint a picture

of her beloved

• Understand the emotions behind the words

• The reality is be better than the literal

What Is Heaven Like?

• How to describe beauty to the blind?–We haven’t seen heaven…–We haven’t even seen the glory of our

future bodies (1 John 3:2).

• Abraham’s example (Heb 11:8-10, 13-16).– A country of our own– A better country, a heavenly

• A place prepared by Jesus (Jn 14:1-4).• A perfect place (Rev 21:16)– 1,500 miles x 1,500 miles – Approx. land area of Roman Empire• x 1,500 miles• Not literal, but “plenty of room”

• Do we long for home (2 Pet. 3:11-12)?

II. Heaven Is “Home”What Is Heaven Like?

• Rest from our struggles (Heb. 4:8-11).

• Here we suffer temptation & opposition (1 Pet. 4:1-4).

• There, we will no more be tempted with sin or persecuted (Rev 14:13; 20:10; 21:25, 27) (cp. Luke 16:20-22).

• Jesus calls us brethren (Heb. 2:11-12; Mt. 12:48-50).

• Earthly ties do not guarantee entrance (Luke 16:23-24 “Father”).

• All the saints will be there (Heb 11:40; Rev. 21:12, 14).
