Pookutty became the first Asian to win the American Motion

Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Award for best sound for

documentary "India’s Daughter".

India's Daughter is a documentary film directed by Leslee

Udwin. It is part of the BBC's ongoing Storyville series.

It is based on the Delhi gangrape incident of December 2012.

It was banned by Government of India for public screening

airing of the documentary.

Senior IPS officer Alok Kumar Verma has taken charge as the

new Commissioner of Delhi Police, succeeding B S Bassi.

Alok Kumar Verma is a 1979 batch IPS officer of the Arunachal

Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory cadre. Prior to this

he was serving as the Director General (Prisons) of Tihar jail.

International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) is the

Specialised Agency of the United Nations.

It works towards removing poverty and hunger in rural areas

all over the world. India is a founder member of IFAD and a key

contributor among the member countries.

Dinesh Sharma, Additional Finance Secretary and India’s

Governor to the International Fund for Agriculture Development

(IFAD), Rome has been unanimously elected as the

Chairperson of the Governing Council of International Fund for

Agriculture Development (IFAD) for a period of two years in its

39th Session held in Rome, Italy.

Muziris was an ancient seaport and urban center at the

Malabar Coast (modern day Kerala).

This project has been launched to conserve ancient seaport of

Muziris and to showcase its culture of past 3000 years. This

project is the largest conservation project in the country and

the first green project of the Kerala government.

President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the first phase of the

Muziris Heritage Project in Kerala. Aim of first phase it to put

this site on the international heritage map.

According to several studies there is an overall male dominance over

online and offline space. Twitter which is an micro blogging website

has taken note of these studies and launched a campaign. This

campaign is to empower women to raise voices against any form of

discrimination. It seeks to bridge the gender equality gap on various

online social media platforms and inspire the next generation of

women leaders to have an influential voice in society.

The campaign on twitter is #Positionofstrength.

Twitter has partnered with the FICCI Ladies’ Organisation and the

Observer Research Foundation to engage more women to find their

voices online and help them to communicate safely with confidence

and network with other like-minded women.

Swiss professional tennis player, Stan Wawrinka won the 2016 Dubai

ATP Tennis title in men’s singles category. He defeated Cypriot

professional tennis player, Marcos Baghdatis. Final match was held at

the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Other winners at the tournament were:

Women’s Singles category - Italian tennis player, Sara Errani.

Men’s Doubles category - Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andreas

Seppi

Women’s Doubles category - Chuang Chia-jung (Chinese Taipei) and
