Dear future students,At the dawn of the 2010-2011 academic year, the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC)Herzliya will be in the midst of implementing the strategic plans for its future. Overthe past sixteen years, our schools and research institutes have won internationalrecognition while our alumni have taken impressive steps toward changing the faceof Israeli society. In a recent survey conducted by the Council for Higher Educationon student satisfaction throughout Israeli academia, IDC Herzliya was rankednumber one in sixteen out of the twenty categories. Our schools of law and computerscience ranked number one in income by alumni and the school of business wasranked number two. We will be building upon these accomplishments and expandingour academic programs and activities to exciting new heights. The members of theninth class of the Raphael Recanati International School will be joining one of theleading academic institutions in Israel.

An era of renewal is taking shape within Israeli society. Joining IDC Herzliya nowmeans being a part of this fascinating process, which will infuse a commitment toconstitutional and governmental reform as well as economic growth; will address thechallenges presented by new media technology; and will reevaluate Israel’s diplomaticstrategy and policies as well as the country’s social and moral agenda – all of whichare intrinsic to our academic mission. We already see a number of our graduatesgaining leading positions in key areas of the country, who are committed to makingIsrael a better place to live.

IDC Herzliya has led this academic avant-garde movement since its inception. We combine the study of theory with real-world experience. Our educational methodis based on an interdisciplinary approach, information technology and openness tothe international horizon. Our outlook, which is rooted in the concepts of libertyand responsibility, emphasizes initiative and leadership alongside community service.International students will benefit from this focus in addition to an all-encompassingintroduction to the State of Israel and its scenery, history and roots.

Next year IDC will have twelve hundred students from sixty-three countries at theRaphael Recanati International School. I am convinced that everyone who joins usfrom abroad will obtain an excellent education and will also develop meaningfulfriendships with students from Israel and dozens of other countries – an experiencethat will accompany them for the rest of their lives.

“As a new immigrant serving in Israel through Garin T’zabar I was grateful

that IDC accepted international students with grades from abroad. My

parents and I came to look around IDC and we were overwhelmed with the

beautiful campus, the students, the renowned professors and the school's

status worldwide. Finding IDC made staying in Israel after the army to

continue with my higher education a reality and, most importantly, an

enjoyable and challenging experience.”

R APHAEL REC ANATI (1924-1999)

Raphael Recanati was a man of vision; more important, he was a person devotedto putting his vision to work. He would have been proud of the Raphael RecanatiInternational School carrying out his vision of modern Israel in action.

Israel, he knew, could no longer be just the manifestation of its ancient promise orof revolutionary Zionist prophesies. It must, through competitive achievements, assume a place of leadership in new global markets and find ways to participate asa full partner in the creation of Western culture and international political institutions.Israeli universities, for their part, must help prepare new generations, both in Israeland from abroad, to thrive in this emerging world.

The Raphael Recanati International School rejects the idea of seeing Israel as afollower and invites students to come to IDC Herzliya to learn how to becomeleaders – as scientists, as entrepreneurs and as custodians of a uniquely human globalenvironment. This is the world Raphael Recanati understood and helped to invent.

The Raphael Recanati International School presents this challenge to students ofunusual maturity and ambition. Come and learn the management skills, diplomaticstrategies and technologies that define our age. Come immerse yourself in anunforgettable adventure. Come join and enjoy a unique student body. Come andbe inspired to be among the founders of tomorrow’s world.
