You need to change gun #2 to a different ID before plugging them both in.

Quote

Basic Tasks:

Assigning ID.If you are connecting more than one gun to a PC, each one must have a

unique ID.The ID is assigned by clicking on the "Assign ID" tab.

from this page:

Make sure your sensor bar is in a good position and that your light gun can see

the bar no matter where you point on the screen. Also the Aim trak has software

to calibrate the guns even further which can help. I found holding the trigger

down for 30 seconds restarts the calibration so you can adjust on the fly for

games that are 4:3 vs games that are in 16:9. Hopefully this helps. Also make

sure your Joystick ID's are setup correctly using the aimtrak software that

ultimarc gives you on their site.

A MAME cabinet at home is

heaven

the gun just out of range...the ID is ok. by the way where should i calibrate the

gun? in Configuration? Sensor View Check? Displaying Calibration Errors? or the

SHOW DATA Tab? Although I tried all of them in all sorts of variations

With all the respect to the http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak.html site itself has

an explanation for all TAB. but why not be explained step by step from start to

finish?

Once your guns are set up (with IR sensor and all) and plugged in correctly

(IDs, etc) press the calibration button on your gun(s) for the required 10-30

seconds in order to enter calibration mode (while in Windows). You'll be

looking at a Windows desktop at this point. No other software is open. No

Aimtrak software is needed at this point for calibration.

You should see three blinking targets. They come up one at at time. Shoot

them with each gun.

A couple of KEY THINGS to keep in mind:

1) Be sure to be far enough away from the screen for the calibration to work.

It's much harder to be too far away than too close. I'd guess at least 4-6 feet

away from the screen for it to work.

2) Aim with your WRISTS, not your arms. Position the gun where you would

likely hold it when playing a game. Then aim carefully using your wrist, only

pointing the barrel of the gun at the different calibration targets. Try not to

move the handle part of the gun in space relative to your body at all.

See my review demo video here for a few possible points of help:

In Windows, make sure only 1 gun can see the bar.

The guns is a mouse. All mouses connected control the same pointer, so they

can "fight" each other.

In MAME, make sure that you have multimouse enabled in MAME.ini

When you map the controls in MAME, it should say "Mouse 1 X axis, Mouse 1 Y

Otherwise MAME is just like windows with both guns trying to control the same

pointer.

Also, do not enable "multiple lightguns" in MAME.ini.

That is left over from the old days.

Aim-Trak is seen as a mouse.

The problem right now is not in MAME. This gun calibration problem.

Once I click the button 5 seconds, and after he finishes the calibration.

The gun moves on the screen like crazy ... and I took the calculation of the

distance from the screen.

By the way this picture (forgive the quality) direction with one gun in my MAME.

You said that it worked fine when you only had one gun in windows. But when

there are two guns in windows it was all over the place. Are you sure when you

are moving it that the other gun isn't pointing at the bar. One possibility is that

the cursor is jumping between gun 1 and 2 which are both pointing at the screen.

AimTrak Light Gun problem

Logged

http://jackiabu.blogspot.com/

To enter calibration mode, you should be holding the gun vertically (point at

ceiling).

The calibration goes upper left corner, upper right corner, and bottom of screen

center.

It did not look like you pointed the gun at the bottom of the screen for the last

one.

That could by why Y axis is messed up.

A MAME cabinet at home is

heaven

jackiabu, I watched your video...twice. I'd like to try and help.

I believe the problem is that your gun is NOT calibrated correctly with your

computer. That's why the cursor jumps all over the place on your monitor. Forget

MAME for now. You need to get the gun(s) calibrated.

BadMouth's comments and input is good.

My AimTrak's are slightly different (Arcade Guns). I'm not sure which gun trigger is

your calibration button. For me it's the large rear button. Where your thumb

touches. I have to keep it pressed down for at least 10 seconds uninterrupted for

the lightgun to enter calibration mode with Windows. Your gun may require more

or less time. 5 seconds? Maybe I missed it in the video but it didn't seem like you

actually entered calibration mode. Hard to see. Somehow you may not be

pushing the correct button long enough...or something.

You will know you've entered calibration mode when the mouse cursor moves to

the upper left corner of the screen. At that point, release the large button

pressed to initiate calibration. As BadMouth suggested, don't point your gun at

the screen when initiating calibration (pressing the large button on the gun).

Now...once the mouse cursor is in the top left corner, point the gun at the mouse

cursor (using the tips I posted prior) and pull the trigger. Do the same for the

upper right and bottom center. The center target will be slightly off center. That's

OK. It's supposed to be so. You must aim VERY carefully at these three targets.

Take your time. Use the iron sights of the gun.

If your calibration was accepted you should be able to control your mouse cursor

with the light gun. You should have smooth cursor control across the whole

monitor. If you like the accuracy of the gun then you're done. If not, re-calibrate

until you are satisfied.

If you calibration was not accepted by the software (actually firmware), the

cursor will return again to the upper left corner of the screen for re-calibration. If

this happens, don't be alarmed. Move a foot or two further away from the screen

and try again. If you are already more than 7 feet from the screen you should

move closer to the screen instead of further away from it.

If accuracy is still not quite right after calibrating, start the calibration process

again. This time you might try aiming slightly above or below the mouse cursor

target or tipping the nose of the gun upward or downward during calibration.

Again, I still suggest keeping your wrist and arm as motionless as possible.

I know this can be frustrating. I remember having to try to calibrate my guns

many times before I got it right.

The good news is that once you get them calibrated in Windows you won't have

to worry about it again. The calibration for you screen stays in firmware. Even if

you unplug your guns.

Then...you can move onto MAME.

When I first got my guns, one would jump around even when held still. Not quite

as dramatically as what you are showing in the video but it was noticeable. I got

a replacement from ArcadeGuns.com and they agreed that it was defective and

the replacement was perfect. You could have a similar issue.

Random thought: is it possible that the IR lights are reflecting off of something

else like the control panel? If it's only one gun, then I doubt it's the case but

might be worth looking into.

Double check these settings in the Aimtrak utility. Just set on and off screen to

the same thing for each button and you shouldn't have a problem calibrating

Operation Wolf. You can also make sure to aim at the screen during calibration in

MAME. Probably better to do it this way so it still works correctly with offscreen

reload games such as Lethal Enforcers.

I was able to calibrate OPERTION WOLF, AREA 51.

But somehow games like OPERTION THNDER BOLD does not calibrate . when I

move the gun toward the right. LIGHTGUN X ANALOG in MAME, and game like

alien 3. the same problem.

i will keep trying

Well after a week of trial and calibrations. (One gun attached).

I was able to play dozens of games in MAME. And all so games like, HOUSE OF

DEAD,Remington Super Slam Hunting Africa,etc.

There are games like CAREN EVIL that need to calibrated in DIP SWITCH. and its

now allso work fine. however alien 3 and other games, dont calibrate at all .even

when i try the DIP SWITCH option. when i move the

gun i see the movment of the gun but nothing happen.

why is that most of the game in mame i succeed to calibrate, and some i dont?

Is it just the games that original had mounted guns? (terminator 2, revolution x,

etc)

The guns on those games were more like analog joysticks than light guns, so

they work differently. (they should still work with aim-trak though)

See page 22 of the Aim-trak manual.

With positional gun games you'll need to enter the gun settings in MAME as the

STICK X/Y axis controls. Not as the normal Lightgun settings. Also, some of those

games require in-game calibration (ie: Terminator 2, Revolution X). All of this

should be in the AimTrak manual. Look in the end section where it talks about

individual game requirements.

be in the AimTrak manual. Look in the end section where it talks about individual

game requirements.

from the site :

"Positional Games

These games originally used a joystick, usually mounted in a gun housing.

Although they

were originally not lightgun games, they can be played with the AimTrak.

Since MAME does not consider these lightgun games, you will need to repeat the

above

MAME setup procedure for assigning “GUN # X” and “Y” for these specific games.

Note

that you will be selecting Input (this game) and then selecting the AD Stick X (and

Y)

Analog inputs, instead of the Lightgun X (and Y) Analog shown above. "

Why can not they be more specific

any way here is what i do: i go to in mame to input(genral). then to the AD STICK

X (AND Y)

here is how its look now:

Take a pic of the mappings for only that game.

Your pic is of the general settings.

Longshot, but something else to check:

Is there an ini file for Terminator 2 in the INI folder located in your MAME folder.

If so, make sure that the mouse isn't disabled in it.

BadMouth You are the king thank you. the T2 its now working.

I checked my terme2 INI and there is LightGun 0. so I changed it to 1 and

then i setup in AD Stick X (and Y) the gun whit no problem.

But something important and critical I have to say.

Many years ago I had connect TRACKBALL. usb. back then calibrate the most

games of shots. to the TRACKBALL.

Maybe it made me all the mess?
