No superhero characters in my film: NandhiniManigandan K R, TNN 1 September 2009, 12:00am ISTNot many bank on the power of realism, romance and comedy to mak e an impression and so, when one does, it makes heads turn as in the case of J S

Nandhini, the director of Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru (T4), a film which is to hit screens soon.

Says the lady, who is making her debut as director in Kollywood, T4 is a romantic comedy. It is an adventurous, sensible film, packed with a lot of fun. Basically, it is difficult to mix logic

and comedy. I think if you have a little bit of comedy, you have to lose a little bit of logic. On theother hand, if you seek to satisfy the logical requirements, you wont be able to make youraudience laugh. In this film, weve tried to balance both.

The director, who has worked as an assistant to Priya in Kanda Naal Mudhal, seems to havepicked up a couple of useful lessons. Says she, The audience will be able to relate to mystory. There are no superhero characters in my film. All the characters in my film are verynormal people and react to situations as they would in real life.

Commenting on the cast of the film, she says, Ajmal and Rupa Manjeri play the lead roles in this film. I spoke to Ajmal when he had finishedAnjaathey and was yet to sign TN 07 AL 4777. I wanted newcomers for both the characters, because I wanted my audience to see these people asthe characters on screen. People must hear a lovely story and see the characters as they are. I needed actors who could blend into the roles ofArjun and Archana and I was very particular about the fact that the story could not be bent, she says.

While she decided on Ajmal instantly, she did have to search for a good three months to spot the right person to play the role of Archana.

Says she, I had to hold several auditions to pick my heroine. I was particular that the girl understood Tamil. Thats because, even if aperson cant speak a language, she would at least need to understand the meanings of certain words to do comedy. Rupa fit the bill. Thoughborn and brought up in Bangalore, Rupa is a Tamil girl and so, I chose her. We had a few training sessions before shooting and one good thingabout Rupa was that she was able to reproduce whatever I did very easily.

Well known actor and director Mouli also plays an important role in the film, she says and goes on to disclose that he plays the role of the bossof both the heroine and the hero in the film. Actually, I had Mouli sir in mind when I wrote the script. In fact, initially, the name of his characterwas Chandramouli. However, he asked me to change the name and so Ive changed it to Srinivasan.

So, ask her what she thinks will work in the movies favour and she says, I think the comedy will work out as will the romance, which isvery believable. The guy and girl start out as friends and it is not love at first sight. I think guy-girl friendships havent been properly portrayedin cinema so far.

In this film, people will be able to appreciate the romance, she signs off.Powered by Indiatime
