A few context…• Australia, officially the Commonwealth of
Australia, is a country in the southern hemisphere comprising of the mainland which is the world's smallest continent (also largest island), the major island of Tasmania, and numerous other islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
• Most of the estimated 21.7 million Australians are descended from colonial-era settlers and post-Federation immigrants from Europe.
• Largest cities are Sidney, MelbourneBrisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra
A few context…• Australia is a prosperous
multicultural country and has excellent results in many international comparisons of national performance such as health care, life expectancy, quality-of-life, human development, public education, economic freedom, and the protection of civil liberties and political rights. Australian cities also routinely rank among the world's highest in terms of livability, cultural offerings, and quality of life.
Finally… the art• The Arts in Australia have been influenced by
its culture including a sense of European Australian isolation and remoteness.
• The vigour and originality of the arts in Australia — film, music, opera, painting, theatre, dance, cinema and crafts — are achieving international recognition.
