Name Date Science Class Hydraulic Robotic Arm We will be using tools and materials to create a compound machine called a hydraulic robotic arm. This arm will have four different ways to move to be able to complete simple tasks, like lifting an item, and placing it elsewhere. Our source of control for the arm will be hydraulics. Hydraulics is the use of liquids through pipes as a source of force. Our robotic arm compresses and decompresses air and water to move pistons that in turn move the robotic arm. Goals: 1. Each team of students will complete a working hydraulic robotic arm.

3. Students will calculate work performed using the formula W = Fd (work = force times

distance)

4. Students will analyze and evaluate the properties of materials used to make different

parts of the hydraulic robotic arm.
