The advent of a New Year is a traditional time forreminiscing about the past and there are many memoriesfrom the RED '89 and Orange '90 classes, heVancouver Convention, the Angel Island Picnic and theCamp Caz Retreat to name a few. I don't plan onreviewing them becausewe already have our favoritestucked away in pleasant places in our memories - or onvideo tape! Rather, I'd like to reflect on a commontheme that runs through all of those events and that isFriendship.Try this exercise some evening at the EVRC: lookaround at the people that make up WSD; at their ages,sex, occupations, nterests and personalities - its quite a-' :rsity! One might expect a certain amount of distance-,veen people of such diversity but that is hardly thecase: ook at the tips - people are having a good timetogether - and at the breaks - people are always clusteredin various groupings getting caught up on all the news!

There is a quip that Square Dancing is "Friendship setMusic.n I guess hat is a little sentimental but its true ahey! Square Dancing does have a sentimental aspect inits call for a return to values such as sharing and carinThat spirit of sharing and caring was evident througho1990whether the event was a classnight, a retreat, orChristmas gift exchange.Square Dancing of course givus all a common interest but it takes more than that todevelop the spirit of Friendship. And some of thosecomponents are the hallmarks of WSD's approach toSquare Dancing.Quality instruction allows us to be proud of our dancinskills, regular dances featuring National Callers givesumany opportunities to enjoy the pure fun and joy thatsquare dancing can deliver, and an active social calendmoves our relationships beyond that of just dancepartners. These three attributes, which have done somuch to foster our club spirit, will be evident througho1991. And it starts irt January - be sure to take a look our calendar of activities.Of course people make an important difference and ware fortunate to have the greatest people in the City amembers of WSD. We have a strong core of 'old timethat do yeoman service and provide erperience andcontinuity. We have a very talented and caring teachinstaff. People who donate their time and energy forofficial positions and unsung heroes that you can alwacount on for help. People from all the classes, rom thgreat Red '89 class,and from the very fun Orange '90classwhich promises to provide our leadership for thefuture. They are all people that are good to know andhave as friends.FORM ONE is enclosed in this newsletter. I'd invite aof you to renew your membership in the WSD Family1991.And why not make a resolution to contribute your helto the Club in 1991. It can be something large or smaone time task or participation in one of our newcommittees. We never expect each member to attend athe eventsnor to do everything for the Club. We allparticipate as we crul and together each part contributto a greater whole from which we all benefit.
