17th Annual Golf Fore a Cause Registration now open!

With warmer weather comes one of Spectrum Generations’ biggest fundraisers and a wonderful event that needs your support! Our 17th Annual Golf Fore a Cause tournament will take place on Friday, June 21, at the Brunswick Golf Club. Last year’s event raised over $20,000 for our programs and services like Meals on Wheels and center activities. We are looking for teams and individuals to play! Registration is due by June 17. The cost is $125/individual, $450/team and includes 18 holes with cart, bagged lunch (catered by Cohen on the Meadows), homestyle BBQ dinner, awards, and much more! If you want to join us just for the BBQ, purchase a dinner ticket for $25 each! There are also various sponsorship levels available which offer a great way for businesses or individuals to generate positive publicity from their association with our tournament.

May is a busy, but important month! Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. The 2019 theme, Connect, Create, Contribute, encourages older adults and their communities to:

Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.

Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.

Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others. By engaging and supporting all community members, we recognize that older adults play a key role in the vitality of our neighborhoods, networks, and lives. May is also Stroke Awareness Month and we’d like to remind you to act FAST at the first sign of a stroke:

Face – By asking the person to smile you can tell immediately if one side of the face droops.

Arm – Ask the person to raise both arms. Observe to see if one arm drifts lower than the other.

Speech – Slurred speech is a symptom of stroke. Ask the person to repeat a single sentence.

Time – Call 911-Fast. Time may be the difference between life and death or even partial and full recovery.

Medicare 101 Attendance is required before an

individual appointment can be made.

Choosing a Medicare drug and or health plan can be difficult and confusing. In this Medicare 101 class you

will be provided information regarding Medicare, Medicare drug coverage, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare Supplements, and tips on how you can save

money and avoid penalties.

Enhance®Fitness

Enhance®Fitness was developed and created for older adults of all fitness levels which focuses on

dynamic cardiovascular exercise, strength training, balance, and flexibility — everything to help you

maintain health and function as you age. No special equipment is required for participation.

The program is led by a certified instructor trained in bringing out the physical best for those 55 and older. Classes are held at the YMCA of Greater Waterville,

126 North Street, Waterville on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters class on Wednesdays from 2 — 3:30 p.m. beginning May 15 through June 26.

Samuel McClean, Nutrition Educator of SNAP-ED

program at Maine General, will be teaching nutrition along with basic cooking skills. Samuel will cover

healthy cooking techniques, tips for safe food handling, preparation, and storage.

Participants will learn fundamental food skills such as tips for smart shopping, reading nutrition facts on food

labels, budgeting tips to stretch food dollars, and maximize food resources.

Tasty food samples are prepared by the chef and

participants in each class. You will receive groceries to take home to prepare the recipe taught that day in the

class, and free recipe book upon completion of the class.

Class is limited to 15 people. Pre-registration is

This workshop is designed to help people with type 2 diabetes learn how to live well.
