‘Be Co-operative’ Best wishes for the Festive Season!
I would like to wish all the staff, our students, our families and car-ers, a very safe and happy Christmas break. Enjoy your holidays, stay alert, whether you are at home or travelling afar. The staff will look forward to seeing all our students resume, and new families commence, on Tuesday 31st January, 2017. Preps will begin on Mon-day 6th February.
Remember to pay for and allocate your child’s Book Pack on Wednesday 25 January. The school is open on this day.
Farewell and Thank you
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful staff of Lightning Reef P.S for their contribution to the development of the students in their care; to thank our families for the special effort you make in contributing to your child’s educational needs, to each other and within the community. I feel very privileged to lead such an amazing, giving, dedicated and talented staff and be able to share this with our families.
We farewell the following staff and thank them for their individual contributions to our school and students – Megan Watt she begins a new journey in another school. Justin L as he ventures off in to a new career. We wish you all the very best with your future plans. We will miss you.
A day has been set aside to collect student Book Packs on the Wednesday 25 January 2017. Also on Monday 30 January will be allocated for staff induction. This will assist all staff and casual relief staff who have joined our team to become acquainted with Lightning Reef P.S and the operations within. This day will also provide information about our school, and the policies that we imple-ment. No students will attend school on this day.
Forms - support for 2017
Forms have been sent home for 2017. The forms are as follows: Medical Action Plans. The forms are critical to upgrading our student information, and to ensure that we have the relevant ‘permission’ forms signed by parents or caregivers, and doctors. The school year will start very effectively if these forms have been completed at your earliest convenience; and please then return them to school before the end of this year. Thank you for your assistance with this requirement.
Without these various indemnities signed, students will not be able to leave the school premises or engage in certain programs. This makes it very difficult to commence programs for your child. Your support in getting these forms signed and back to school ASAP would be a superb start to our planning and preparation for 2017.
THANK YOU.

Cornish Group of Bendigo Essay Winner.
Cornish people were important to Australia and Bendigo because they intro-
duced better ways to mine for gold and copper.

Kingdom. The Cornish people came to Australia between 1846 and 1850. They
travelled to South Australia to mine for copper in Adelaide.

ies. There pasties were famous because the Cornish people invented them.

digo from Adelaide. The Cornish people lived in areas around Golden Square,
Huntly, Long Gully, Harvey town and Bendigo.
The Harvey family
The Harvey family had a settlement named Harvey town - named after them. In
Harvey town there was a stone house that the Harvey family lived in. the Har-
vey family were wealthy people.
Different ways of mining
The Cornish people knew better ways how to mine. They taught other people
how to mine like them. The ways that they mined were better because it was
easier and more efficient.
