FFROMROM THETHE D DESKESK OFOF F FRR. M. MACAC,,

This Sunday we begin National Catholic Schools Week, an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Here in our parish, this is an opportunity to cele-brate Saint Cyril’s School and the positive contributions it has made not just to our parish but to the wider commu-nity. For 65 years, Saint Cyril’ School has faithfully served the parish and community and under the leadership of our principal Mr. Ryan Halverson and our wonderful faculty and staff, our school is healthy and strong. Thanks to the efforts of our Parent-Teacher Organization, the support of the Saint Cyril School Foundation, the sacrifices of time, talent, and treasure of our school parents, and the generosity of concerned parishioners, St. Cyril’s School continues to reach new heights of excellence and innovation. We are continually seeking improvements to our school and up-grades of our facilities and equipment. Current fundraising efforts are focused on raising funds to install a practice sports field on the Southeast corner of our property near the Firmament gate. While the space on which the field is to be installed will occupy a large section of our current parking area, the artificial surface to be in-stalled will be able to be driven on so we will still be able to use the space for parking on weekends and for other large events. The benefits are several. We currently have to rent off-campus field space for team practices. Having a practice field on campus will eliminate rental fees which will lead to substantial savings. It will improve the safety of our children by keeping them on campus and provide addi-tional play space. It could also be a potential revenue source for our community if we rent the field to outside groups. This is just one of many exciting initiatives to enhance life at St. Cyril’s School so that it will continue to be a crown jewel of Catholic education for many years to come! I want to thank the faculty and staff of our school for their ser-vice. I am also deeply grateful to our school parents for the sacrifices they make to provide a quality Catholic education for their children. And lastly, my thanks to all of you, the good people of St. Cyril’s, for your continued support of St. Cyril’s school! In Christ

LOVING GOD, LOVING OTHERS, LOVING SELF, LOVING LEARNING: A ST. CYRIL SCHOOL UPDATE

As our school community prepares to celebrate Catholic Schools Week, I am excited to share with the parish com-munity some great things that are going on in our wonderful school. Over the past year, we have expanded our professional de-velopment for teachers, hired a new athletic director, ex-panded our athletic participation, started a new consulta-tive school board, are using new academic assessment tools, started an after school computer programming class, and designed a new logo. In addition to what has happened this year, we continue to build on changes that have been made over the past two years, which have included updated play areas for our younger students, a state-of-the-art computer innovation lab, a science lab that is now available to all grades, new curriculum and technology for our pre-K classroom, several items to help beautify our school campus, including a re-painted parish hall, and a double-digit increase in our en-rollment. All of these things would not be possible without the sup-port of our families, Fr. Mac, and the greater St. Cyril com-munity. We have a wonderful opportunity in Catholic edu-cation to help mold not only the mind and the person, but the soul as well. Being a Catholic educator is such a gift. As principal, I am very proud of how our community continues to grow and it brings me joy each and every day. I hope that you had a chance to join us at our all school mass at 10:00am to help kick off Catholic Schools Week. God Bless! MR. RYAN HALVERSON PROUD PRINCIPAL ST. CYRIL SCHOOL

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME PAGE THREE SAFEGUARDING THE CHILDREN

DID YOU KNOW? KIK MESSENGER AND THE DANGERS OF ANONYMOUS MESSAGES

Social media sites are available to anyone with an internet connection (computer, phone, tab-let). Your kids may be sharing their lives with complete strangers, and parents should be aware of the sites they use, what they share,

and who their friends are. One mobile app, Kik, is regarded as the most dangerous site for internet predators, because users can send messages to anyone with a cellphone, in-cluding young children. Kik has no options for parental con-trols, leaving kids exposed to the entire web. To learn more about this app in the Virtus® article “Mobile App Danger—Kik Messenger,”[email protected].

The Parish League would like to thank every-one who attended the first meeting of the year last week. We will be planning our Easter and St. Valentine’s Day festivities soon. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved with

the planning. 310- 890.1731 We are looking for someone to help with our bulletin board outside the west doors of the church. Please contact the parish office if you would like to take on this fun and crea-tive project. 818- 986.8234

FROGS is looking to add a few more instructors to teach our little ones God’s love during the 10 am Mass. No experience necessary! A 15- 20 minute lesson will be prepared for you. All you need to do is show up with your enthusiasm and

take it from there. It is a truly rewarding way to start the week. You will receive service hours if you are a school parent.

Knights of Columbus Valentine’s Dinner Dance Saturday Feb 13th, 6pm- Midnight. Din-ner will be served at 6:30. Come enjoy an evening of dancing, 50-50 raffle, door prizes and Dj music by JR & RJ. Tickets are $30 per person. Singles are welcome. K of C Hall

21400 Strathern St. Canoga Park. For more information, call Leo 818-633.3926 or Angelo, 818-577.6719. The event will benefit the Annual Ace Werth Track Meet.

Help Christian Families in the Holy Land Next weekend, February 6 & 7, 2016, representa-tives of Christian Families of Bethlehem will be here to sell their hand carved religious articles made of olive wood.

The sale of these precious articles supports them in their struggle to survive in Bethlehem and maintain a Christian presence there. At least ninety percent of the funds raised through these sales go directly to Christians living in the Bethlehem area. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
