152nd Session of the Kentucky Annual Conference
Annual Conference Guide
12 September 2019
Grace to the 152nd Session of the Kentucky Annual Conference!
Thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Robert A. Strode, St. Paul, and those who have
given of themselves for our comfort and productivity. We appreciate
the hospitality of the greater Lexington Area once again.
Special thanks to the presiding elders, pastors and laity for your
sacrificial service. You met the challenges of institutional life with love
and courage. Without you, we could not be what we are.
Our thematic focus this year is Economic Justice! We are also mindful of
the need to look beyond gender as we pursue justice. The gospel calls
us to this very life where the distribution of resources should not be
weighed by the bias of privilege, whether of race, class or gender. We
must always see People as People, and seek to love them.
Let us praise God who has given all things and made all of us from one
blood. Rise above selfishness and faithlessness to advocate for equity
without regard to the differences which should not matter.
Give emphasis to what is truly important: a loving heart and a faithful
life.
Supervisor Susan joins me in saying thank you for eight special years of
service. We appreciate your prayers and loving support.
Faithfully,
Jeffrey N. Leath

The Reverend Dr. Silvester S. Beaman Bethel AME Church, Wilmington, Delaware
Ordination/Communion Preacher
Rev. Dr. Silvester S. Beaman, Pastor of Bethel AME
Church in Wilmington Delaware, is a graduate of
Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, Ohio, Boston
University (M. Div.) and Payne Theological Seminary (D. Min.).
Dr. Beaman's pastoral career began at Bethel AME Church in
Lackawanna, New York in 1985. In 1986, he was appointed to the
historic St. Paul AME Church in Hamilton, Bermuda. During his
administration at St. Paul, the church’s 1.3 million-dollar debt was
reduced significantly, new ministries were created and youth
programming was further developed. The church created the Fair
Havens Christian Care Drug Rehabilitation Center, a fully staffed
residential rehabilitation and treatment facility for women.
Dr. Beaman has lead Bethel AME Church in Wilmington, Delaware since
1993. Since that time, he has taken in over 2,700 new members. Under
his administration, renovations to the church were completed,
consisting of a New South Wing with office space, full capacity
elevator, newly equipped industrial size kitchen, the church balcony,
installation of air conditioning in the Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary and
the indebtedness of the church was paid off. At Bethel, Dr. Beaman’s
commitment to ministry is evident in the creating of over 50 new
ministries, such AIDS Task Force, men’s & women’s ministries, mentoring
programs for youth, senior citizen ministries, youth suicide crisis and a
community evangelism outreach program. In 2000, the church
incorporated the Beautiful Gate Outreach Center Ministries, a full
service onsite outreach, testing and treatment provider to the
community and individuals who are living with HIV/AIDS and their
families.
Rev. Beaman’s theme in the Ministry is Hebrews 6:10, “For God is not
unrighteous to forget your labor of love, which ye have showed toward
his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints and do minister.” He
believes that “The work is all divine.”
