THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Since we have been raised with Christ, let us seek the things that are above, where Christ is,

seated at the right hand of God.

People: Let us set our minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Leader: Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.

People: Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hos-

pitality to angels without knowing it.

Leader: Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those

who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

People: Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! Be merciful, just as

our God is merciful.

All: We do everything, in word or deed, in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God our

Creator. Say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere

mortals do to me?" Come, let us worship!

Leader: Let us pray together for Teachers and Students

People: O God, who gives wisdom to all who ask You, and by whose Spirit we are taught knowledge:

grant your blessing to all your servants, whether as teachers or learners, and help us in the

work you have given us to do.

Enable us to labor diligently and faithfully, remembering that without you we can do nothing,

and respecting you is the beginning of wisdom.

May we set your holy will ever before us, and do that which is well pleasing in your sight.

Then, our work here may count for good to others, both now and in the days to come.

Open our eyes so we may know your marvelous works, search our own spirit, and under-

Bishop David R. Daniels, Jr. 124th Elected and Consecrated Bishop

Presiding Prelate, 15th Episcopal District

The Right Reverend David Rwhynica Daniels, Jr. is the 124th bishop of

the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Bishop Daniels is the first West

African to be elected a bishop. He was born in Rivercess County,

Republic of Liberia. He is married to Mrs. Irene Moifoi Daniels. They are

the proud parents of daughters; Danica Rwysayma, Davida Renee, and Iesha Mardea.

Before his election in 2004, Bishop Daniels pastored Eliza Turner Memorial AME Church

in Monrovia, Liberia. Eliza Turner Church grew from a few hundred members to several

thousand under his leadership. Exiled from Liberia by civil war, Bishop Daniels returned

to the United States and served as pastor of Turner Memorial AME Church in West

Columbia, South Carolina. Among many accomplishments during his tenure was the

establishment of the Turner Child Development Center.

Bishop Daniels’ career abounds with examples of his commitment to education. In

1992, he organized a ministry school which developed into a seminary (Bryant

Theological Seminary). Following the leadership of Bishop C. Garnett Henning, Sr., he

played an integral role in organizing the AME University in Monrovia, Liberia. Bishop

Daniels is also founder of Frank M. Reid, Jr. Christian School in Liberia emphasizing

spiritual and academic excellence and Christian moral standards.

Bishop David R. Daniels, Jr. holds a Master of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological

Seminary in Columbia, South Carolina. He is trained in Clinical Pastoral Counseling and

holds an Advanced Clinical Pastoral Education certificate. He was awarded a Bachelor

of Science degree Magna cum Laude in Business Administration from Allen University.

He has also studied at the University of South Carolina. AME University conferred on

Bishop Daniels an honorary Doctor of Divinity in 2002.

Bishop Daniels is a consummate prophet, fearlessly committed to the directive of the

Great Commission. His spiritual, intellectual and administrative gifts have been a

blessing in the episcopal ministry. Following his election in Indianapolis, Indiana

(2004), Bishop Daniels served the 14th Episcopal District (West Africa, 2004-2008) and

the 15th District (Southern Africa, 2008 – present). His goal is “To Make a Positive

Difference.”
