About 20 minutes later, the vans are packed up andthe volunteers are off totheir next destination.

“It’s been really nice be-cause we see somany of thekids every day,” said ChinaAquino, 21, of MacombTownship, who, like all ofthe volunteers, attendsOak-land University.

“We kind of get themto eat the things that theywouldn’t normally try. Wehave a rule: You have to atleast try one bite, so they’retrying vegetables and fruitsthat normally the mightsneak awaywithout eating.”

Some children play bythemselves at the outings, but others make friendswith neighbors or volun-teers.

“The kids are going toplay with the kids thatthey live right next to andthey never would have evenplayed with (otherwise),”Aquino said.

“It’s really rewarding.”The volunteers, all of

whomarewithin the healthsciences department at OU,have seen improvements inthe diet and overall healthof some children.

“This is a really good timeto impact them and maybeprevent any chronic dis-ease that could appear ifwe instill a healthy lifestylein them at this young age,”Aquino said.

Matthew Hickey, 22, ofRochester, is another vol-unteer.

“It’s been pretty darngood,” he said of the pro-gram.

“We’ve been able to geta lot of people out here andget a lot of families bringingtheir kids.”

The volunteers visit about15 sites per day and handout anywhere from 150to 200 meals in that time,Hickey said. The programprovided 18,265 meals inJuly. Last year, 7,500 mealswere distributed through-out the entire summer.

“I’ve noticed they reallylike the fruit, but … thekids do not care for salad,”Hickey said.

“As kids, they don’t un-derstand what real nutri-tion is. They go by whattastes good, but you still getkids that will eat the salad, and even though that is rel-atively few kids, it’s stillworth it.”

The fresh food has be-come a lunchtime staple forthe Aguilirs.

“(My daughters) say, ‘Goplay! Go play!’ every day.‘What time are we going?’”Olga Aguilir said.

“Sometimes I don’t wantto come (but) they say ‘Comeon, the van is coming!’”

automaker for use in the cen-ter stack consoles that sit be-tween the driver’s seat andpassenger seat in contempo-rary cars, trucks and utilityvehicles.

Consumer demand for anintegrated, unique and ac-curate navigations systemcontinues to intensify, addedWiernik, who has severaldifferent companies that hestarted in his portfolio andoriginally startedNNG’s pre-decessor in 2004 because ofthe growing interest in nav-igation guides for use onmo-bile phones.

He later moved his origi-nal company to Budapest tolink up witha Hungar-ian companythat had de-veloped im-pressive setof graph-ics for gam-ing devices.NNG, whichwas createdthrough themerger, now has 800 em-ployees spread around theworld. One of the keys toNNG’s growth is offer excel-lent solutions at a relativelylow cost, he said.

The system works forcars such as relatively inex-pensive Mazda 3 as well asultra-expensive cars suchfrom Ferrari or McLaren orthe Porsche 918 Spyder. “We

have one engine. But we canchange the graphic experi-ence. We can make all thechanges the way (the man-ufacturers) want,” Wierniksaid.

In recent years, NNG hasbecome a leader in enter-tainment, information andnavigation software, whichis used by car makers inNorth America, Europe andAsia. NNG can now pro-vide on-board, 3D naviga-tion applications that incor-porate connected featuresand a universal online up-date portal.

NNG executives said thegoal is to make “infotain-ment” and navigation easy, fun and safe and integratedthrough all communicationdevices for everybody in thevehicle.

While consumer elec-tronics companies continueto push into the automo-tive market – raising ques-

tions about data ownershipand product liability, NNGbelieves it can offer a plat-form geared towards the au-tomotive industry in order tobring connectivity to vehi-cles and maximize the coredriving experience, Robnettsaid.

Jeffrey Rehm, the direc-tor of business developmentin the Birmingham office, who joined the NNG NorthAmerica organization, ef-fective December 2014, saidNNG has a tremendous po-tential for growth.

“This is an incredible op-portunity. The evolution oftoday’s complex automo-tive systems demands ex-pertise related to software,”said Rehm, adding technol-ogies such as connected nav-igation services, over-the-airupdates andNNG latest soft-ware will alter the experi-ence of drivers and passen-gers.
