14 Points of Fascism
By Kasper Vockeroth & Anneke Braat
Mussolini’s Italy
Benito Mussolini, being the creator of Fascism, through in place the Fascist of
the Fascist run nation. The 14
Points of Fascism are greatly intact within his political system.
1. Powerful/ Continuing Nationalism
• Mussolini’s Fascism included a fasces as a symbol of strength and unity. He had the Fasces up everywhere in Italy.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
• Citizens of Italy were forced to obey Fascist ways. This was enforced by the secret police and military, so if they don’t listen, they will suffer. Mussolini also worked to deal with traitors of Italy with trials and executions.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
• Benito’s Fascist Regime used the communist and socialist groups of Italy as an identifying enemy. He also had the Socialist leader, Giacomo Matteotti, assassinated by his “black shirts”.
4. Supremacy of the Military
• Just like any fascist regime, Mussolini’s military became more important than any domestic issues. funding of the military was more then any other social category, so when people started living harsher lives, the government ignored them because of their military based mindset.
5. Rampant Sexism
• The roles of the males and the females in Benito’s Italy were two extremes. The woman were to stay home, being called the “Keeper of the Home” because apparently the birth rate was too low and that the woman should return the jobs to the men.
6. Controlled Mass Media
• Public posters, radio and newspaper were controlled by Mussolini. He also made sure that pictures and slogans of himself were posted on public posters to ensure he had full control of the media.
7. Obsession with National Security
• In Italy, many problems after the first world war caused fear to flow through the country such as economic inflation and social disturbance. By emphasizing capitalism, he skillfully controlled the fear present in his country.
8. Religion and Government Intertwined
• Mussolini was a strong Catholic. He intentionally used religion is speeches; “Fascism is a civil and political faith, but also a religion... Like Christianity”. Anyone who didn’t follow was punished, which meant that everyone had to follow what the leader told them. Religion was therefore a powerful technique in manipulating and controlling Mussolini’s Italy.
9. Corporate Power is Protected
• Shockingly, Italy’s government seemed to allow private property and business ownership, but in a more Fascist way. They would deal with corporations and industrialists together instead of dividing them into groups. The only reasoning behind grouping them like this is so that the government could have the secure collaboration between businesses and government.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed
• Because Mussolini saw a threat to labor unions they were not allowed or very much suppressed in fascist Italy.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
• The professors at universities had to swear an oath to fascism and also swear to only practice it.
12. Obsessions of Crime and Punishment
• Mussolini allowed his “Black Shirts” (secret police) to basically do whatever they want and punish anyone who went against fascism. Immense power was given to this position of law enforcement.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
• Mussolini used people that strongly supported Fascism in the key government positions, therefore keeping him in power.
14. Fraudulent Elections
• As soon as Mussolini was in power, he put in place a law that states “if a party receives 25% or more votes in a general election they will receive 2/3 seats in the Chamber of Deputies”. This law, along with intimidation and violence, proved to be an effective sham.

Hitler’s Germany
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Members of Nazi Germany used many different signs to advertise their beliefs
and values. Some popular ones that they used were the swastika, the swastika
with an ealge on top (symbol of the Nazi Party), and the “SS” bolts (symbol
of the Scutzstaffel)
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
During when the Nazis were in power,
Human Rights were completely ignored. They convinced the
Jews that they weren’t even
human, let alone had the right to live.
3. Identification of Enemies/ Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people went against the Jews and believed that
they needed to eliminate that entire race. Hitler
believed this was necessary because he
wanted to create a “master race of perfect ayrien
humans”.
4. Supremacy of the Military
Military in Nazi Germany became more focused on
building up their military and making them the best and the strongest, and focused
less on more important things. Military was, of course, also involved in
concentration camps for the Jews. As well as making their
military stronger, military leaders began also becoming
government leaders.
5. Rampant Sexism• Men were usually forced into the
army.• Children joined the Hitler Youth to
help progression of the Third Reich.
• Women in Germany, like anywhere else during this time, were expected to be good mothers and wives, raising their children while their husbands went to work. Women were also encouraged to get married and have children at a young age.
6. Controlled Mass Media
Nazi Germany deifinitely censored what their
government was doing from their people. One
example is how their main concentration camps weren’t even
based inside their own country.
7. Obsession with National Security
Hitler made his people believe in everything he did,
he especially focused on
teaching the youth age group.
8. Government and Religion are Intertwined
Religious aspects if Nazism like huge congregations,
banners, sacred flames, processions, prayers-and-responses, and memorial and funeral marches lead
some academics to consider Nazism as a political religion.
9. Corporate Power is Protected
In Nazi Germany only people of a certain hierarchy could
vote, like land and business owners. This way the people running for government had to impress a significantly less
amount of people which made it easier for them to be
voted in and the governments way of running
things was protected.
10. Labour Power is Protected
Unions against anything that Nazism was
portraying was eliminated
immediately. There was no tolerance for unions against the
government.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Professors and leaders in Nazi Germany that
taught beliefs and values that went
against the beliefs and values of Nazism was not allowed, and they were punished
severely.
12. Obsession with Crime & Punishment
Law enforcers in Nazi Germany had so much control that anything inhumane was simply
overlooked. There was no real laws for the police to
follow, so they could punish in whatever way they seemed necessary,
which was usually brutally.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
As far as cronyism went in Nazi Germany, there
were lots of advantages for people in high
positions in the military and leaders of Nazism. More so than just any person who believed they should have a chance to run the
country.
14. Fraudulent Elections
Fraudulent elections were very popular back in this time, because not all
people were allowed to vote, only few chosen groups.
