Dear Taylors Hill Community,

Thank you

This will be our final newsletter for the year, therefore I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to the many parents who volunteer their time to help out in a myriad of ways including classroom programs, excursions, in the Learning Centre, as School Council members and at special events. A special thank you to the Parent and Friends members, who successfully organised various fundraising events throughout the year including our Movie night, Mothers and Father’s Day stalls, Easter and Christmas raffles and School Banking for our students.

A big thank you must also go to our staff, teaching and non-teaching. They are a dedicated and professional team who are extremely supportive of each other and are committed to ensuring the educational needs and well-being of every child in the school are catered for. I would also like to thank the students for the manner in which they approach all aspects of their school life, as well as the way they endeavour to display our school values on a daily basis. In particular I would like to thank our School Captains, Zoe and Isaac, for the outstanding role models and leaders they have been for our school. We can all be justifiably proud of our school and its community!

Finally, to all our Grade 6 students who will complete their primary schooling on Friday 20th of December. Congratulations on your personal best achievements and we wish you all the best as you commence the next exciting stage in your education journey. I am looking forward to celebrating with them at their Graduation Ceremony next Tuesday evening.

2020 Student Leadership Team

Developing the qualities of leadership and responsibility is an important element of the curriculum at Taylors Hill Primary School. We aim to provide students with a range of opportunities to grow in self-confidence and take on increasing responsibilities.

Leadership requires enthusiasm, passion and a positive attitude for what it is you want to

complete or change. Leadership is also about working with and trusting others to achieve a

common vision. We have many examples of strong student leaders in our school and it was

pleasing to have so many high quality candidates to choose our School and House Captains,

Enviro team leaders and eSmart leaders from and we are looking forward to working closely

with them to build their leadership capacity.

Parents and Friends Association 2019 This year, the PFA have been an amazing team of parents who volunteer their time for the benefit of all students at THPS. Looking back at the events and fundraisers they have led, we hope they are proud of their achievements because we certainly are. This year the PFA have:

Facilitated an amazing Market and Movie Night Organised a delicious Easter Raffle Set up a special shop for both the Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Stalls Sold the Entertainment Books and Memberships Hosted a wonderful Student Disco Organised the sponsorship fundraising and prizes for the House Walkathon Put on an amazing Carols Night Raffle Volunteered to process the School Banking every Tuesday morning Hosted Parent Morning and Afternoon Teas Sold and organised Second Hand Uniform Sales

Along with these events, a core group of parents met each month to plan, organise, make suggestions, volunteer their time, make donations and support each other and the school. We would like to thank this group who have been consistent contributors to monthly meetings and events - Leanne Sparrow, Lucia Portelli, Lisa Imsic, Mandy Stegehuis, Rosanne Waring, Kathleen Bajada, Katherine Nitsios, Janine Morgan, Cathy Liberatore, Melanie Mills and Suzi Opasinova. We also know that there are oth-er parents who have contributed at some events and working behind the scenes, so our thanks also goes to those people. Together with the support of our school com-munity, the PFA raised $24 000 which is a fantastic result for 2019. From this fund-raising you will see more books in Classroom Libraries and more games and equip-ment in our yard. Thank you! We are looking forward to another great year with the PFA in 2020 and hopefully we can encourage more people to join this very amazing group!

Semester Two, 2019 Student Reports

Teachers at Taylors Hill Primary School have almost finished writing accurate and

informative Student Reports explaining the learning and progress your child has made throughout the year. There will be NO PRINTED STUDENT REPORTS SENT HOME, however, you will be able to

access your child’s report through Compass via https://taylorshillps.vic.jdlf.com.au/login.aspx on Monday 16th

December, from 11:00am.

Your child will be assessed against each learning area that is appropriate for their grade level.

Student achievement is assessed against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards or the Level A to D continuum to show student progress towards achieving the pre foundation standards.

Each learning area will have an A to E rating. The reporting scale has the following meaning:

~ A - well above the expected standard at this time of year

~ B - above the standard expected at this time of year

* C - at the standard expected at this time of year

~ D - below the standard expected at this time of year

~ E - well below the standard expected at this time of year

Along with this is a chart showing your child’s level of effort and class behaviour.

Classroom teachers have also written comments about your child’s achievement and skill development in English and Mathematics. These comments will assist you to understand the rating they have been given in these areas. You will also read comments about your child’s personal and social learning

habits. This area of the report will enable you to gain an understanding of how your child relates to others at school and how they are managing their learning within the classroom.

There will also be comments outlining the future learning goals your child will be working towards in order to enhance their development. A student self-assessment will also be sent home this week that has been completed by your child, evaluating their own learning.

SPECIALIST CLASSES

Your child will receive a rating and comments from each of the specialist teachers that have taught your child for The Arts, Physical Education and Science and comments for Italian.

Please read through the report with your child and discuss the information included. We need to involve the students in this process so that they are fully aware of their achievements and what they need to work on in 2020.

We know you will find these reports informative and useful. If you have any questions regarding the reports, please do not hesitate to ask your child’s class teacher.
