PS/2 PORT

Port has 6-pins.

It is a female port.

It require 6-pin male connector.

Page 6: 1.2 i o interface

The mouse is connected with a PS-2 mini-DIN connector. Green is for mouse. The keyboard is connected with a PS-2

mini-DIN ( Deutsches institut Fur Normung) Connector.

Purple is for Keyboard.

PS/2 PORT

SERIAL PORT

Device is capable of Receiving one bit at a time.

It is a 9 pin male port.

Page 8: 1.2 i o interface

SERIAL PORT CONNECTOR

Uses either a 9-pin or 25-pin connector and a cylindrical cable much less susceptible to interference. Can be up to 25 feet long.

It require 9 pin female connector.

Use to connect External modems and old mouse. Transfer of data at speeds of 28.8Kbps, 33.6Kbps, 56.6Kbps and 128Kbps and above, they can easily reach the serial port theoretical maximum.

PARALLEL PORT

Device is capable of receiving eight bit at a time. It is a 25 pin female port. We require 25 pin male connector. Port running at about 150Kb/sec. Dot matrix printers are connected. Utilize a male DB-25 pin connector on the computer and a male 36-pin Centronics cable at the printer end. Most cables will be no more than ten feet, to reduce electronic interference along the cable.

USB PORT

A protocol for transferring data to and from digital devices. USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. A single USB port can be used to connect up to 127 peripheral devices.

It has three versions of USB. Version Speed USB 1.0 1.5 MBPS USB 1.1 12 MBPS USB 2.0 480 MBPS USB 3.0 4.8 GBPS (latest)

MINI- DINS

Audio connectors are used to affix cables to other audio equipment.

Connector includes 3.5mm TRS (tip/ ring/sleeve ) plugs that can be inserted into a socket.

This setup is used for audio, microphone and auxiliary output.

MODEM RJ-11 JACK

Short for Registered Jack-11. A four-wire connector used to connect telephone.

RJ-11 connectors are also used to connect local-area networks (LANs).

RJ-11 is used for dial up connection.

FIREWIRE PORT A type of cabling technology for transferring data to and from digital devices at high speed. Also known as IEEE 1394/ILink. It is trademark of Apple as Firewire. IEEE 1394 a devices are running on 100,200, 400 Mb/s. (6 pins) , half-duplex. IEEE 1394 b devices are running on 600-800 Mb/s. (9 pins) , full-duplex

High-Definition Multimedia Interface It is a compact audio/video interface for transmitting

uncompressed digital data. HDMI connects digital audio/video sources (such as set-

top boxes, upconvert DVD players, HD DVDplayers, Blu-ray Disc players , camcorders , personal computers (PCs),video game consoles such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and AV receivers) to compatible digital audio devices, computer monitors, video projectors, and digital televisions.
