Graduation Requirements

■ English I, II, III, IV (4 credits)■ Earth/Environmental Science, Biology and a Physical

Science (3 credits)■ World History, American History I, American History

II, and Civics/Economics (4 credits)■ Math I, II, III and a higher level math (4 credits)■ Healthful Living (1 credit) ■ Additional electives (10 credits)■ TOTAL MINIMUM of 26 CREDITS

Required Courses

6 Elective Creditso 2 Elective credits REQUIRED of any combination from either:

– Career and Technical Education (CTE) – Arts Education– World Languages

o 4 Elective credits STRONGLY RECOMMENDED (four course concentration) from one of the following: – Career and Technical Education (CTE)– Arts Education (e.g. dance, music, theater arts, visual arts) – Any other subject area (e.g. mathematics, science, social studies, English or cross-disciplinary)

o Students can select CTE courses to complete a career cluster

Electives

▶ Not required for graduation from AFHS, but required for admission to most colleges and universities.

▶ 2 credits must be in the same language▶ Spanish and French are currently offered at AFHS

World Languages

▶ Students taking AP US History will also be required to take a Social Studies elective to meet the graduation requirement of 4 Social Studies credits.

▶ Social Studies electives include AP Government, Law and Justice, Sociology/Psychology, among others.

*If you have taken American I, you are not supposed to take APUSH

GPA and Quality Points

▶ You may request up to two periods off at the beginning or end of the school day for work, internship, and/or other approved opportunities.

▶ You must be on track to graduate.

▶ You may submit this form at the end of your Junior year or during the first week of school during Senior year.

▶ Please note this is a request and that completing an application does not guarantee that you will receive early release/late arrival; schedules will not be rearranged to accommodate an early release/late arrival request.

▶ Dropping courses from your schedule may impact a college or university’s decision to admit you.

What are colleges looking for?

SAT and ACT Testing

➢ Three hours; plus an additional 50 minutes for the optional essay

➢ Three tests: one reading, one writing and language, one math; optional essay. Scores range from 400 to 1600, with 1600 being the highest possible score. The essay is scored separately, on a 2 – 8 scale.

➢ Register and send scores on collegeboard.org

SAT Testing

➢ Two hours and 55 minutes ; plus an additional 40 minutes for an optional writing test

➢ Scores range between 1 and 36. The writing section is scored separately on the same 1 – 36 scale.

➢ You ALL will take the ACT in February during the school day. You will get your scores through Homeroom as soon as we receive them!

➢ Register and send scores on actstudent.org

ACT Testing
