I GENERAL DESCRIPTION
1.1 This method statement is for the Electrical Pressure Testing ofcables operatingon voltages up to and including 1lkV.
This statement is not intended to supercede or vary in any way instructionsthat may be issued by the client.
2 PREPARATIONS
2.1 Obtain f.om customer details ofall potential hazards and risks on the site.
2.2 Check that all hazards and risks are clearly identified within this methodstatement.
2.3 Before commencing any work ensure the personnel involved are instructed inthe safety measures and requirements ofthis Method Statement-
2-4 Ensure all personnel working on the plant wear Safety Boots, Safety Helmet,Boiler suits, Hivis vests and any other protective clothing necessary for thework to be completed.
2.5 Ensure all personnel are appropriately qualified for the tasks to be carried outto include awareness ofthe latest Safety Rules for working on High VoltageSystems and that at least one person prcsent will be authorised in the switchingof high voltage equipment.
2.6 Ensure all equipment and tools for use in the Tests are correct for the works, have been tested and are in accordance with current legislation.
2-7 Obtain all necessary permits to work and permits to test.
2.a Check that there are no other permits issued to others for work on theequipment to which the cables to be tested are connected_
2-9 Place warning notices and barriers.
2.10 Visually inspect and check the terminations ofthe cable to be tested.
SETTING OI]T
3-1 Prior to commencement oftesting the following actions are to be taken:
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
D
c)
A walkound ofthe site with the customer to identify and ensure wherenecessary all points of supply are isolated and locked.
Ensure that the cable to be tested is dead and efficiently connected to earth.Ifeath to be disconnected ensurc permit is obtained
Advise all personnel working adjacent to the test area that H.V.Testing istaking place and cleal all non essential personnel.
Any cables connected to transformers to have the links removed
Current TEosformers to remain connected unless otherwise instructed.
Primary Fuses to be removed and Metering Voltage Transformers withdrawn.
Ensure the test equipment is complete with the correct prcbes for theswitchgear

Note I
Note 2
These test voltges are intended for cables immediately after cornrnissioningand not for cables which have been in service. When testing is required aftetcables have been in service , manufacturer should be consulted for theappropriate test conditions which will depend on individual circumstances.
Where switchgear or any other equipment cannot readily isolated fromterminals the test voltage should be subject to agreement between the partiesconcerned. The duration ofthe test shall be 15 minutes increasing the voltage gradually, lhere must be no breakdown ofthe insulation.
4.4 On completion of test remove probes and reconnect any items of equipmentdisconnected for test.
4.5 Issue a Test Certificate Form FSD1087 for each cable tested.
4-6 Finally check all connections to equipment and earths are correct.
4.7 Cancel all permits.
