1979- President Jimmy Carter welcomed Chinese Vice Premier Deng Xiaoping to the White House following the establishment of diplomatic relations.

• Current Event• Obama to pitch

immigration reform

– NEW: Immigration reform supporters, foes, won't get all they want in deal, senator says

– Eight senators, four from each party, have laid out a bipartisan blueprint for reform

– House lawmakers are also said to be working on a bipartisan immigration plan

– President Obama will not present legislation, but will call for action, during a speech Tuesday
