10 DAYS IN DUBLINTHEATRE & DANCE

JULY 4- 13 2013

Page 2: 10 Days in Dublin 2013 Theatre & Dance Brochure

This years theatre programme is an excellent representation of what

contemporary theatre is all about. The variety of shows and themes offer

an wonderful taste of what theatre can do - discussing life’s issues, life’s

problems and of course life’s joys. Shows this year explore a huge range of

social and political issues from the historical to the current, from the tragic

to the joyous, from the humorous to the chilling.

The programme also reflects the changing nature of theatre from the

passive to the interactive. Through audience participation of one form or

another shows have begun to move away from the rigid narrative structure

of more traditional theatre and rely on their audience to provide content

and direction. Staging is another area where we see change with theatre

companies now making use of non-traditional theatre spaces such as the city

streets, cathedrals, art galleries, cafés and bars. In some cases shows are

inspired by the very venues they have been staged in.

Of course the most exciting element of the programme is the large proportion

of fresh talent displaying new ideas about how theatre can be done. 10 Days

is delighted to provide a platform for such an electrifying offering of creative

talent on stages around the city.
