There are different kinds of storms in life:• Natural disasters - hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, etc.• Physical storms - human suffering, disease. • Emotional storms - broken relationships, unbearable burdens, bereavement.

Some storms come as the result of human error,ignorance, bad decisions or circumstances which arebeyond our control. The good news is that there is away out.Some years ago, the Army Air Corps wanted to studyhurricanes. So they sent an airplane out to meet one.When they got to it, they flew straight to the center ofthe storm.When they got to the center they discovered a

remarkable thing, which has been documented manytimes since. In the center of the hurricane they foundneither rain or mighty winds, but a perfect calm. Theywere so fascinated by it, they were not anxious toleave the center. This brings to mind the words of Cleland B. McAfee

(1903), “There is a place of quiet rest – near to theheart of God…” All of us need a place of serenitywhere we can be alone with our thoughts and withGod.The secret to finding calm at the center in life is to becentered in the Lord of life. Try it and find peace foryour soul!

Prayer: Lord, let me find calm at the center. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Ourson is very active with football, soccer and basketball and attends sixth grade at the OtsegoMiddle School. My daughter is a fourth grade student at Alamo Elementary and loves gym-nastics. I graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School in 1989 and in 1992 received my as-sociate’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from ITT Technical Institute. I have since continued my education with Accelerated Leadership Excellence throughGVSU, Administrative Lean Boot Camp, Better Business Bureau of West Michigan’s Part-ners in Ethics, Conference on Leadership Development and Teambuilding and VAGTC –Trade Compliance Audit Program. I am a Sales Manager and Small Business Owner and have been employed by RoManManufacturing for the last 19 years. I started my career in the engineering department andthen was promoted to outside sales and later to sales management. I have also been asustaining member of the American Welding Society for thirteen years. Prior to joiningRoMan Manufacturing in 1996, I was a manager for Sam’s Wholesale Club for five years. I am also a partner in a commercial investment property in Newaygo County and haveowned and managed several single family rental properties for the last fifteen years. I am interested in bettering the Otsego community as well and am the chairman for theOtsego Main Street Design Committee. Otsego Public Schools has an opportunity to welcome three new school board members.The board members will work with our new Superintendent, which will bring fresh ideas andperspectives to the school district.
