Physical properties of MgO

Page 3: (10-11) F3 Chemistry Individual Project Work Ionic & Covalent compounds

Reactivity towards Water and Acid Water: it will form Magnesium Hydroxide

Acid: gives Magnesium Nitrate and water.

Storage & Laboratory preparation Store in cool and dry places. Keep away from strong acids.

Don’t touch it with bare skin.

Make sure all the touching surfaces are completely dry.

Wash thoroughly after handing it.

Chemical properties of MgO

It is basic Both oxidising and reducing.

Page 4: (10-11) F3 Chemistry Individual Project Work Ionic & Covalent compounds

Cause eyes irritation.

Cause respiratory tract (呼吸道 ) irritation.

Inhalation (吸入 ) of the fumes of MgO may cause fever.

The bright light produced will emit harmful intensity of UV light.

Potential hazards
